Question about buying second contract

So I have a contract at VGF that I just purchased last year. I booked a trip for this year and one for next year. This years trip I had no problems getting a studio at 7 months (by the time I received my points I booked for when I wanted to go and it was in the 7 month window). I book studios as it’s just 2 of us and we can go at any time and generally book week days. So off Course addonitis has struck and want like just 30 more points. Finding a small VGF contract with the same use year is tough. I am finding smaller contracts available at other resorts like Hilton, Vero, Saratoga, Old Key for example.
so my question is what are experienced members thoughts about buying a small cheaper contract elsewhere and using the points at 7 months?
is it normal to find availability at 7 months usually or is this just because not as many people are traveling due to the current pandemic?
any insight appreciated

Are you hoping to use exclusively at VGF with those points? Flexible with where?

What has happened since the closure is not normal and things normally not open have been. A lot more trips canceled a few months out which has made getting things, especially studios easier.

From mid September to mid January studios are rough to get when you want to change from your home resort.

If when planning at 7 months you can be flexible with dates, then it’s easier. That is what I have found when trying to book with my SSR point to add to what I booked with my BLT and RIV points.

Honestly, with that few points. I’d be sure to get what I wanted, even if it means buying direct. Yes, up front you pay more but if you don’t have to buy a larger contract..which will come with more MFs..or a different UY or home resort, you save to only be frustrated later. With 30 points it’s not so much extra.

When I first bought I did this. I added on 75 extra at BLT even though I could have gotten 100 on resale for the same price. Except I didn’t want 100 then and while I would have spent the same to buy, my MFs would be more owning the 100 vs the 75.

Now, since then I have added another 450 points..lol

I was hoping to use at VGF so my plan was to book my days at VGF at 11 months and then at 7month Mark try and add additional days. If necessary do a split stay. I’m flexible with dates and where I would stay.
I noticed that for my September trip when I was booking at the 7 month window there was availability at Bay Lake, Animal Kingdom, almost everywhere and figured if this was normal I would be ok.
but if there was just availability because of the situation now then this might not be the best idea.
thoughts?
maybe I should consider a small one direct as well
thats a lot of points you have I see addonitis is real! LOL

First two weeks in September is better for 7 months at studios. I have had luck other times of the year. It has taken work and I have gotten VGF as well as others. Ithini as long as you are flexible, willing to put in some time waitlisting and stalking, you could even end up with all at VGF.

Addionitis is very real. I don’t need more right now given the extra from all those canceled trips last year but reading the boards make me soooo want more. But, my next purchase will be direct and either RIV, BLT or VGF...only 50 more to start but I have restricted points from buying BLT in the summer, and it’s the one and only regret I have made in buying and selling.

It will cost me more, but worth it in the long run since I love RIV.

While it's a couple years old info, I thought these charts were very helpful in helping me see how difficult it is to book at 7 month for different resorts. GFV is a small resort and studios are always harder to book in general. So if your goal is GFV and studios, I think your best bet is to buy 30 pt direct in your UY for your ease of booking. You might have some success if you're very flexible with buying other resorts, but I guess make sure you'll be happy with split stays if it ends up being the case.

If you have a hard use year to match for VGF I’d definitely try to by direct as there really aren’t a lot that come up on the resale market. The closing costs and point premium on the smaller contracts makes the price difference not worth the time to wait for the right contract to come along on the resale market.

I’ve been watching VGF closely since lockdown, because it was what I wanted to add on.

VGF resale is just tight right now. Fidelity has zero, and the board sponsor’s listing prices are more than they were even weeks ago. I have seen some 50 pointers float in though. Even for a small contract, I’d try to see if my dream contract popped up soon before I paid the direct VGF price though, OUCH.
