A friend of mine told me not to bother with the bus service from the ALLSTAR resorts, that it takes 45 minutes to an hour to get to any of the parks. The busses are one of the reasons we are staying on the property, we didn't want to have to deal with traffic and parking. Any opinions? Also, we are traveling with a 4 month old, so I will have an infant car seat stroller combo with me... any suggestions? TIA! 31 days!!!

On busy seasons, the buses are dedicated to each AS resort, I hear. Although last time I went it was value season and I saw none of that. Even during value seasons buses can get crowded! That is where the bulk of the guests stay.

I foresee it to be difficult on you and others to drag a stroller into the buses. There is the handicapped section at the end which tends to be roomier but you can't predict how many times you'll be able to get there before everyone else does, or someone who really needs it.

Dragging a 4 month old in and out of those trams can be overwhelming, at least to me. People get in and out like they're playing musical chairs, and it is a race to the empty spot.

I suggest that you look into a moderate or deluxe resort, if transportation is a concern. They have the emptiest buses or even allow you the ease to walk to MK. Check out codes, research to get the best rates or wait until the baby is a little older and can handle the hassle! When the kids are older they're OK dealing with it all...

We have stayed at ASMO 2x(3rd will be in August) and found the transportation to be wonderful! It was much better than we found it at DXL/POR. The only problem we had was getting back from the HDD, but that wasnt specific to ASMO. We were in the same boat as many others from different resorts leaving the HDD.
Anytime we have left ASMO and gone straight to any of the 4 parks, it has never taken 45 minutes and that includes wait time too. I would stick with the buses.

I agree to sticking with the buses.....even though it CAN sometimes be frustrating, (especially at night waiting for your return - maybe a bit tired?) the wait time wasn't any better/worse at ASMovies than it was when I stayed at CBR, so I wouldn't change my booking.

Even WITH the wait, I find it much more convenient to stay on site and WAIT if I have to than to deal with traffic....driving....parking.....trasfering to the ticket center....enough said.

Good Luck and ENJOY the MAGIC!

I've stayed at All Star Sports for two years running during January/February and used the buses to the parks and it was never more than 18 minutes. (Didn't go to Downtown Disney - that might be 20). I saw lots of families bringing strollers on with kids and it does involve juggling but it never looked like a problem. I'm in agreement with the others - stay at the wonderful All Star Movies and use the buses. I think they're great! Do note that the All Star resorts share the same bus and it picks up at Sports first then Music then Movies. In that order. When it's busiest by the time it gets to Movies the bus will be fairly full. Have a wonderful time!:smooth:

and unfortunately for nature's planning... my other kids ARE older! They have been waiting for 3 years to go, becase when we went last the little one was 2 1/2 and it was tough. Now they are older(6&10) and have a surprise baby sister who we will not let hold us back. Fortunately, she is a very flexible, versitile baby, so if it means taking her out of the stroller, and Daddy carrying the stroller and Mommy carrying her for the bus ride... she'll deal!
Thanks:)

What a great attitude, Alli & Molly's Mom. :) You'll have a fantastic trip.

We stayed at ASMo a couple of years ago and found the busses to be very convenient. Besides, I think the bus rides are part of the fun...you get the chance to talk to other excited vacationers, and the drivers can be entertaining, too.

Enjoy your Disney time!

I've stayed at the All-Stars, POR and WL. Each resort has it's drawbacks.

Yes, AS resort busses are typically crowded. The trade-off you get with the PO busses, however, is that they always seem to be the last ones to arrive at closing time at Epcot and MK. I've been in really long lines waiting for the POR bus while watching busload after busload of AS resorts come, load up, and leave.

I'm staying at ASMu soon and will expect to be standing on many of my trips back from the parks. I've found that getting on the bus in the morning (not first thing) to be pretty much OK when trying to find a seat. Because I'm young, I won't give up the chance to go "surfing" if a couple gets on the bus with young children.

("Surfing" is what you do while standing and holding onto the hang bars while the bus turns a corner on two wheels. It's great fun! You should try it, but watch out for those sudden stops or you'll be the bowling ball that gets whipped down the aisle at other guests!) :p

Is it convenient to travel on the busses with a baby? No.
Is it convenient to travel in your own car with a baby? No.

Regardless of how you travel with an infant, you're dragging along a stroller, a diaper bag, etc. It's just more work. However, with the busses you won't get lost, you won't have to put the baby into a hot car, and you won't have to walk from the parking lot to the park entrance. Busses win, hands down.

From the All-Stars you can expect a 20 minute drive to the Magic Kingdom (whether you're in your car or the bus). You might have to wait for the bus to arrive, which would add time. Personally, we never waited more than ten minutes for a bus. Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and MGM are about 10 minute rides.

The buses at the All Stars are great. We've stayed here four times during both slow and holiday season. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the MK (I timed it last trip) and is by far the best way to get here. If you drive you will need to park at the TTC and take either the ferry or the monorail to the main gate. The bus drops you off at the main gate. If you go to DTD then I suggest driving.

Have you stroller folded and ready to load.

45 minutes to the parks? My oh my... Rest assured... it's nothing like that.

The All-Star Resorts have very good transportation. Approx travel times are as follows:

MK: 14 mins
Epcot: 10 mins
Studios: 9 mins
DAK: 8 mins
DTD: 17 mins

Of course, travel times may vary according to traffic, and other concerns.

During the morning, we do operate Magic On Demand out of the All-Stars... busses get dispatched on a demand basis... often times, the bus will only pick up at one resort, and then head straight to the theme park.

After 10:45am, busses convert to Flex Dispatch... The MK will always have seperate busses. Epcot combines the All-Stars until park closing, then splits them. Studios, DAK, and DTD always combine them. Depending on how the bus was dispatched, it could very well go Sports -> Music -> Movies.... or it could go Movies -> Music -> Sports.

One thing I will tell you... during peak times of the day, do expect crowds. The All-Stars have almost 6,000 rooms... so that is a lot of people. If you wish to avoid the crowds, try to avoid hot times to leave the park. For example, when the park closes, and they have fireworks... hang back for a half hour... then come on out... lines will be a LOT shorter.

Another suggestion... The infant may remain in the car-seat, however, the stroller part will have to be folded prior to boarding the bus. My advice is that while waiting in line for the bus, get everything all set, and ready to board. That way, you won't be scrambling at the last minute, dropping things, and whatnot.

Hello!

We have stayed at the AS Movies twice, the Polynesian & the Wilderness Lodge. I have to say that by far the bus transportation from the AS Movies was the best!

(We loved the monorail to the MK from the Poly, but any other trip by bus took much longer than we had previously experienced at the All Stars.)

We will return to the All-Stars someday without any problems - Hope this helps! :D

You will be fine with the Disney transportation. We NEVER had to wait 45 minutes. There were times we didn't fit on the first bus and had to wait for another, but then that was only when we went first thing in the morning. At the most we waited 20 minutes.

Our first trip was in September. We never waited for a bus. I don't know if our timing was excellent or what. On our first trip, it was just DH and myself. No children. We were very easy going, and we didn't have a set plan.

On our second trip, we had our 4 year old with us. It definitely changed the way our trip went, but it still was a lot of fun. On our second trip, it was busier and we had to wait for buses, but still not an inconvenience.

My advice: be ready to walk onto the bus. Have everything folded up. Also, don't travel during the really busy times. When we rode back and forth throughout the day, we hardly had to wait. And, when the bus arrived there were plenty of seats. My last bit of advice would be not to have a schedule. We always had a layout for the day of where we were going and absolute musts. However, if our daughter got tired, it wasn't a big damper to go back to the resort. We pretty much planned on it. So, I think if you go into it with an easy going attitude, it will go better.

MOST people are pretty understanding of strollers and such. Have fun. I'm sure your girls will love it!
