Question About Borrowing...

If I understand correctly - If I make a ressie at BLT for June of 2011 and that ressie needs a total of 245 points and I only have 80 points left in 2011, I would borrow 165 points from my 2012 year. BUT, if at the 7 month window I switch my ressie to AKL and need only 200 points - so I only need to borrow 120 points from my 2012 - would I "lose' the point difference? Since I really want AKL (or OKW) - should I make my home resort ressie for less nights and less points in order to avoid losing any points. I don't want to bank the difference into 2012 because the plan is to not go in 2012 and bank any remaining points into 2013. Does this make sense? :confused3 I'm still new to this DVC stuff.

Thanks in advance!

They can return 45 current year points, which can then be banked.

So - my use year is Feb.

I can call now and reserve BLT for 7 nights in June (more points than needed for AKL or OKW) and then in Nov. call for AKL or OKW and they will be able to put the point difference, if it is less than 45 points back into 2012? That can then be banked into 2013?

I guess I don't understand the last 4 months of the year thing? Does this need to be decided by September of 2010? or September of 2011? When dealing with borrowing 2012 points? If it's September of 2011 then I have nothing to worry about because our trip will be done and over with.

Of all the planning I do for Disney trips - this is the most confusing part.

OKW and AKL will both be available in November for a June stay - just wait.

You cannot do what you're hoping to do... borrowed points cannot be returned to their original use year. The scenario people are mentioning above would involve banking 2011 points into 2012. These points cannot be banked a second time (into 2013). No banking transactions can take place in the last 4 months of your use-year.

Just wait! That's not easy for me. ;) But good to hear that those two places will be available.

Thank you! I didn't think it was possible - you don't think I need to book at my home resort for less nights just in case?

The extra 2011 points would be banked into 2012. But if you don't plan to go in 2012, they would probably be wasted. You wouldn't be able to bank them a second time into 2013.

Either way you do you are going to have some risk, unless you stay at BLT.

If you are not planning to go in 2012 you risk losing those you bank.

I don't think you will have trouble getting AKV or OKW at 7 months for June, if you call as soon as they open.

What if you booked BLT but 1 or 2 days short, to get most of the ressie, but enough you dont go over board on the borrow?

Look for the least popular dates, on the what is available board, and skip that day (s). Depending on how different the points are.

I am with you on waiting.. I HATE IT!

That's what I was thinking... We really want a one-bedroom at Kidani Savannah View...

Of all the planning I do for Disney trips - this is the most confusing part.

Your June 2011 trip will take place in your Feb 2011 UY. Any 2011 UY points that get left in your account can be banked up until September 30th, 2011 (after your trip).

If you book all of BLT now with borrowed points and then change at 7 months for a reservation that uses less points, you would ask them to make sure they use all the borrowed points from 2012 for that reservation and then leave you with 2011 UY points left in your account.

Based on your numbers, you would end up with 45 2011 points left. These could then be banked into 2012 UY for stays Feb. 1st, 2012 through January 31st, 2011.

As long as you are traveling during your 2012 UY, there is really no risk.

But, once you borrow points, those points can never be returned to where they came from.

Good luck!

This is one of the reasons we are happy about owning at OKW.

I didn't know this when we bought, but have come to realize that when I make a reservation there at the 11 month window and then want to see what other resort is available at 7 months I am using more points for the new reservation.

I have realized that I don't have to worry about having over borrowed points.

We travel at off peak times, so something else is usually available, but sometimes we just decide to stay at OKW because we love it there.
