Question about booking

Does anyone know why when I go on Disney.com and check availability it shows little or nothing available but if I check a travel site such as Orbitz they show rooms at just about every resort? Does anyone have any experience with these sites? Could there be any drawbacks to booking through these sites? I only need to book a room, no DDP or tickets( I have AP but there is nothing available for my dates.).

I have noticed that too but I always call directly to book my room....I just dont trust booking online

I think this because there are certain blocks of rooms disney keeps, and then there are blocks of rooms for other vendors( expedia, travelocity )You may find no avail. on disney.com but then when you call there may be something avail( computer is not always as up to date as disney cro).Sometimes the disney allotment of rooms are just booked, and the only way to get them is to go thru outside vendors....personally I would rather call disney.Expedia is ok if it is a substantial savings, but I can't see paying booking fees etc thru another company if I can go thru disney directly.

This happened to me once. I called Disney Travel and told them my dates. The castmember asked me if I was absolutely positive I would book if she could get a room for me. I told her absolutely! She put me on hold and when she came back, I had a room! She told me that they held a certain number of rooms for travel agents and websites. She asked a supervisor for permission to pull one of those rooms and she gave it to me. It definitely pays to call.
