Question about blankets on beds

Soaking everything in Lysol (which only kills the minor bugs anyway), overuse of antibacterial soap, the over perscriping of anitbiotics, and so on is why there are now super bugs immune to those things.

Now if I were to ask my doctor for a precautionary perscription for Cipro because I could possibly be exposed to an unclean bedspread at Walt Disney World, then I would say I was contributing to the problem of super bug's immunity to antibiotics. I'm only asking for a clean bedspread!!!

I always take off the comforter in any hotel, when i am going to bed..
However, i will sit on it (clothed of course ) As i agree there is nothing different to sit on it with clothes on as there is to sit 5 feet away on the sleeper sofa in your room, or any park bench on Main Street..
But, i will not sleep with the comforter on me..

Disney does "NOT" change the blankets and comforts in between guess. Last Aug. while staying at CBR, our neighbors checked out, and I watched the maid clean the room, etc, She had to door open... I was outside waiting on DD to head to the parks. The maid put the same blanket and comfort back on the bed! This grossed me out. When I check into Pop this Thursday I will be asking for a clean blanket and comfort. I am immunosuppressed on top of things, however I just find this completely gross!

I was searching for the small sample can of Lysol also because since
there is a 3 hour delay from the time you get in your room until you
get your luggage, I thought that I could disinfect the main surfaces.
I have not been able to find it where I live and never heard of the store
that someone else have found it.

I read what was in the Lysol spray and what is missing in the Lysol wipes
is alcohol. This type of Alcohol is found in the clear liquid hand sanitizers.
Thought that I might pack a sample of each and put some Hand sanitizer on the wipe and use on all of the hard surfaces.

Does anyone know if you can pack the Sample Lysol Wipes in your carry on bags?

I will probably will remove the spreads while we are there.

Also read on another thread that someone puts the remote inside of a
ziplock bag and changes the TV (because the TV remote is another item
that has alot of germs).

I have seen all the shows about hotel rooms, I have also seen the ones about shopping carts and germs that truly can make you sick and not just gross you out. And believe me the ones that can truly make you sick are not on bedspreads.

Splash Mt. is probably more dangerous to your health than any hotel bedspread. And yes I am sure that some people do engage in activities on the bedspreads, however I really think that at Disney that is not the norm.

How many of you have done that, probably none. Most have children with them when they visit Disney, and I seriously doubt anyone is leaving thier kids waiting outside while they have a quickie on the Disney bedspreads.

I just personally think the concern is over stated, and that if it bothers you, simply remove it when you arrive and ask for a clean blanket and problem solved. Or take the blanket off the bed and wash it and you know it's clean.

I can't imagine anyone sleeps under the comforters/bedspreads anyway.

I remember during the Mike Tyson rape trial, the "evidence" on the bed could not be used somehow because there were several other "contributions" on the same bedspread. This was a very nice/expensive hotel, too. I remember it was around that time that I learned that really NO hotel ever changes the spreads between quests-gross.

Hi!! I found out you can't take the small cans of Lysol at all on the plane. I am gonna send mine down in a padded envelope. I don't see why you can't bring the wipes on the plane, no different then diaper wipes except for the chemical in them. Also, about the TV remote, I'm sure the phone is just as disgusting as the TV remotes

There's a slight difference between overusing antibacterial products and simply not wanting to sleep with a dirty blanket.

Wait, you said, "E Coli, reproductive fluids, and a puddle of puke." Is the blanket disease contaminated or not?

My point is that everyone seems to be making a pretty big deal out of it, talking about bringing Lysol, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizers, etc. with them.

I did see a single sane suggestion of just calling to request fresh bedcovers.

I'm sure if you all went around WDW with a black light you'd find every available surface covered in germs. Wait, not only WDW, but the entire WORLD!

At what point do we just decide to trust our immune systems. Is it really necessary to bring or mail a hazmat cleanup kit to WDW?

Nothing is turning nasty, I just disagree with the general obsession with antiseptic sprays, wipes, cleaners, personal hand wash, etc.

A little dirt won't kill ya!

As someone else suggested, you can always call down for some fresh bedcovers.

I always thought that the comforters were germ filled too but when we stayed at CBR last month I actually saw the maids take the comforters out in their clear laundry bags after the guests checked out.

Why can't you put a small can of Lysol on your checked baggage? If you ship a box via FedEx or UPS, don't they put boxes on their planes? If it's an "exploding" factor, what's the difference? (UPS didn't ask me if I had aerosol anything when I shipped last.)

And, I've known about the bedspread thing, but then I get creeped out about the sofas in the villas. That's the first place my kids want to sit after a long day at the parks. Yuck.

Depending on the weather, we very often only use the sheets and just pull off the bedspreads and comforters. If we need to use them and the blankets or bedspreads do not seem fresh (I have a very sensitive nose), I just ask for fresh ones . It is a simple solution, but easier done when your arrival time is not late evening.
I guess in a pinch I would follow a previous posters advice and just wash them myself .

I have packed a regular-sized can of Lysol in my checked luggage to and from London, Ireland and Disney twice and never had a problem. I too am grossed out by the thought of strangers "sharing my bed." I spray bathroom and all parts of the bed and the remote immediately (my daughter's vacation memories are triggered by the smell of Lysol! ). I also bring my own pillowcases and,if possible, pillows since, even though the sheets are clean the spread over the pillows is not.
I know that this issue is more psychological than physical but it just makes me feel better to treat the blankets and spread like toxic waste!

At least you recognize it for what it is. I do wonder at those that fret over the blankets and bedspreads, do you use those gross pillows for your head or do you bring your own?

I've slept in many hotel beds, never wiped down a remote, and guess what, i'm still here to talk about it! PS - I RARELY get sick!

Same here. I've never wiped a remote or phone, I use the blanket and bed spread, etc. and have never gotten sick from it and am rarely sick overall.

No...... But I do know they don't have crabs, lice, or are doing nasty things on them . I have never worried about stuff like this before.. I have never wiped down remotes, phones, etc. I will be more careful this trip because of my baby. The last thing I want him picking up is some nasty stomach bug left by the previous guest. Disney only comes once every few years, and I want to do my best and take all precautions to avoid any problems!!! Yes, I know that he could get sick at home before we go, but I will feel better doing my part there!!
