Question about blankets on beds

I guess I never thought about it, since I usually pull them down too. But to answer the why it would bother most people (just guessing here) it would be the question of the people "getting lucky" the week before you arrived Take a blacklight some time and have a ball!

DH and I took a quick getaway last weekend; he brought a blacklight. I said "I don't wanna know - don't turn that thing on!"

I get extra blankets from housekeeping and ditch the bedspreads.

If you think the blankets are bad, ever thought of the bed spreads. The FIRST thing I do on going into a hotel room is removed the bedspreads and set them in a far corner. I ask they not be put on the bed for the rest of our stay. Bed spreads are just gross! Never flop down on a hotel bed -- half of humanity has already done the same thing.

I agree - I never use a hotel bedspread, I always take it off. I only use the blanket with the flat sheet wrapped down over the top of it so that it won't touch me. My brother was a forensic scientist (CSI guy)...if you take a Woods lamp (black light) and shine it all over hotel rooms (or homes or other places), you can see all kind of embedded stains (even on surfaces wiped clean). Hotel bedspreads have got to be the worst as they are so infrequently cleaned.

I actually called the TSA after looking at their web site. Go to travelers info. It was www.tsa.gov

Anyhoo, it says you can take liquid soap in your checked luggage, but when I asked about laundry and dish, they said no because its a hazardous chemical. Huh??? Go figure I can see about the Lysol, because it's flammable, but the other 2 soaps?? Its baby laundry soap, I could wash my hair with it if I had to LOL.

I always take liquid laundry detergent w/ me on vacation. I hate doing laundry when I come home and so usually do it the last night we are away. I don't let him chew on things, but on something like a bed spread, he could get it into his mouth before I could react. My point is it is disgusting that bed spreads are not being cleaned in between guests. The person could have lice, could be sick with the flu or cold or something. It's just plain gross

1) From ACTUAL experience
. . . they change the bottom sheet, top sheet and pillow cases
. . . they do not change the blanket or spread between guests

2) From discussion with housekeepers
. . . they do not have enough blankets & comforters to change at one time
. . . they change these on an as-needed basis, without a schedule

Primarily because people are generally fully clothed on couches, air plane seats and the like. Also, people generally don't have sex in restaurant seats, etc.. Next time you cuddle up in bed just imagine that the last place that comforter had been was up some big sweaty guys rear end....YUK!

I always remove the comforters in our rooms before going to bed, not because I have germ phobia but because I see no reason to use it. However, children in diapers that carry E-Coli sit about everywhere and yet people to do not freak about that.

I just do not see the need to be phobic about a hotel bedspread, simply take it off. As to blankets if anyone wants a clean one simply call housekeeping.

As I stated the sheets are clean, I don't sleep or sit on the spreads so it is a moot point.

As to the comment about someone deliberately damaging a spread by pouring something on it, is simply juvenille. Then people wonder why costs go up.

If any of this truly troubles anyone, if you want to actually analyse what is anywhere in the public you would never leave your house.

Shopping carts are nastier than any hotel bedspread.

Sammie, Sammie, Sammie... didn't you ever see the episode of "Monk" when they were investigating a supposed crime in a resort hotel, and they used that blacklight thing to detect 'fluids', and Monk went nuts because there were fluids all OVER the room?? It's not the dirt you can see - it's the stuff you can't see that's causing concern!

Fair enough. The sensible solution is to simply call housekeeping when you check in and request new blankets (and bedspreads, if you want the beds made up completely every day - or that the spreads not be used).

Bedspreads/comforters are washed/cleaned monthly unless needed before then.

The sheets are clean and they are the only part touching you and I don't see any difference in blankets and bedspreads than couches, air plane seats, seats in restaurants etc.

Have you never watched CSI? Trust me once you've seen them wave their little UV light over a hotel bedspread you will never sit on one again....

Add me to the list of phobic people, I lysol everythig in a room, just recently even the bed after suggestionfr om my freind, you just never know. The firs tthing i do is tear downt hat spread, yuck!!!, then from learning about it on tv, i drown the remote in lysol and i never touch it, my db/f knows its his job to change channels and turn off tv, cuz i refuse to touch that thing. but yes we drive everywhere generally and that trusty bottle of lysol goes wih us, i pretty much lysol us out of the bathroom for abotuan hour since i spray every single surface of that sucker.

I didnt realize i could request that the spread not be returned, i think i may do thta next time, i simply just find it yucky and gross. My db/f on the other hand sits on it no problem, needless to say that if we have 2 beds ina room ,i forbid him to sit ont he one that has no spread if he just put his behind down on the spread in the other one..lol

I have heard people say that they put the remote in a ziploc bag so they dont have to touch it.

Like most of you, I pull the comforter off the bed upon arrival. This year I packed a fleece throw blanket in each of our suitcases because they don't take up a lot of room and they still keep you nice and warm.

I have to say, as I was pulling back the comforters at our Dis hotel, I did notice that there were lots of hairs clung to the comforter. That really grossed me out.

I went to Ikea, and bought a duvet on sale for about $15, with one of their really thin, cheap comforters to go in it. When it's hot out, I only take the duvet. It's enough to keep us warm. If we travel in the winter, I put the comforter in there. Then I roll it up, stick it in one of those airtight bags, squeeze out the air, and voila.

I have seen all the shows about hotel rooms, I have also seen the ones about shopping carts and germs that truly can make you sick and not just gross you out. And believe me the ones that can truly make you sick are not on bedspreads.

Splash Mt. is probably more dangerous to your health than any hotel bedspread. And yes I am sure that some people do engage in activities on the bedspreads, however I really think that at Disney that is not the norm.

How many of you have done that, probably none. Most have children with them when they visit Disney, and I seriously doubt anyone is leaving thier kids waiting outside while they have a quickie on the Disney bedspreads.

I just personally think the concern is over stated, and that if it bothers you, simply remove it when you arrive and ask for a clean blanket and problem solved. Or take the blanket off the bed and wash it and you know it's clean.

I can't imagine anyone sleeps under the comforters/bedspreads anyway.
