Question about black out dates and room rates

I'm not sure I understand what exactly these are. Suppose Disney is running a deal 40% off, and we have a 12 day trip planned. If their black out dates fall in our 12 days are those dates not discounted?

Also suppose the start of the trip is value season and the tail end is peak, do the room rates change and we would pay the peak rates for those days?

Thanks.

Under normal circumstances your entire package is dictated by your arrival date. Whatever promo is effective that day applies to your entire stay up to 14 days.

If your visit to the world falls between discounts being offered you have the option to create a split stay. Meaning check out and check back in to your resort or another on the same day and the new discount available upon your new check in date will take effect for the remaining days of your package.

As you can see many combinations are possible and it's all driven by your dates and what Disney is offering during your time frame.

Here is another scenario that upsets many guests. Family A arrives and checks in on a blackout date and FD is not available. For arguments sake family A are visiting for 10 days. 2 days after family A has checked in the FD promo is now available. Unfortunately for family A they do not qualify for free dinning during there entire stay unless they do a split stay and in this scenario its hardly worth the hassle. Now lets flip the scenario - Family B arrives on a promo day for FD for a period of 14 days however every other day during there trip for the exception of there arrival day is a blackout day and does not include the free dining promo. Family B in this scenario qualifies for FD during there entire stay!

To confuse things even more in certain circumstances when people miss a promo by one day they normally book a room only the day before in order to qualify for the discounts however the individuals only arrive on day #2.

Hopefully this help!

I do know that if your trip falls over multiple seasons, you are now charged the rate based on the day. So, if you start out at value and end on peak, you will pay the different rates.

Promotions are different and it really depends on the promotion. I know that package promotions allow the promotion for the entire length of stay as long as check in day happens during the promotional time and not in a black out date.

However, I do not know if the same is true for room only reservations and whether or not those have the same rules.

This is true only for package discounts. A 40% discount is generally a room-only discount (to which you can add dining to make it a package, but the discount is still considered room-only). In those situations, each night is calculated differently.

For example, I had the White Rabbit pin. I start my trip on December 12, and I get the discount until December 17, the final day of the promotion. If I wanted to book December 18, I'd pay rack rate (and that's the holiday rate, too :scared1:).

So it depends on the terms of the offer. You may in fact have to pay rack rate for the blackout dates.
