My daughter will turn 13 on our cruise the August. I was thinking about ordering the cake and decorations offered by Disney. Any opinions on how the cake was? Also if it is not so good can you special request a cake and how would you do that?

The cake taste is WONDERFUL.......... Just know it is delivered to you and the decorations put up the day you get on the ship, not the actual b-day. Is it worth the cost, you will get a lot of opinions.

I have heard only good things about there birthday cakes.thats why I am ordering it for my cruise in may for my sons birthday. Can't wait to see the surprise on his face when he walks in the room.

It's not the cake you are referring to but on our cruise in Nov 2005, on our last day our server asked us if it was ok if they helped my eldest celebrate her 5th birthday - a few weeks early.

Of course we said "ok", and this was the "piece" of cake they brought out for her:

It was pretty good. However, she only ate the chocolate "boat" topping - and wore her birthday badge quite proudly for some strange reason! ;)

This cake does not look like it would be to appealing to a child. I wonder why they didn't stick with white or choco? O.k. truth be told it does not look to appealing to ne either, but I guess i'ts free so no complaining aloud;)

Another birthday cake question: one of the people we're cruising with (IN SIX DAYS:banana:   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) has her birthday on the day we embark. Would they be able to provide her with a piece of that cake??? How do we go about asking?

You can ask at guest services or even just mention it to your server.
They have your birthdates so you might not even have to say anything.

I ordered the Birthday Celebration for my daughter on our last cruise this past October, the decorations were cute, but the cake lacked somewhat. It was a small round cake, pretty flat w/ bunches of whipped cream. I am a sweet craving person who loves whipped cream, and I couldn't even choke it down. When I made my reservations I did tell the TA we were celebrating my daughters Bday, so the servers at our table asked me which night we wanted to celebrate it and they brought out another cake (of some sorts) and sang Happy Birthday at dinner. Hope this helps, I do not think buying the celebration package is wasteful (my daughter loved it), but I probably wouldn't buy the bon voyage pkg if that is what the cake is like.

we ordered the bon voage package and it was nice the decorations were great and my son was very excited when he saw what Mickey had done. Here is a picture of the cake so maybe this will help you a little

Samantha, we will be cruising on the Magic in next month....my DS will be turning 10 on night 4 of our cruise. Rather than ordering the Birthday PKG, I've decided to bring my own deco on board. I think it would mean more to him to wake up to the room decorated ON HIS BIRTHDAY. So, I'm going to go to the local party shop and pick up a few things....streamers, banners, whatever will travel in the suitcase fairly easy. Maybe order in a slice of cake for breakfast....just a thought anyhow.

The cake was great but we never had time to eat it up. It mostly filled our chiller (can't really call it a fridge) until it was time to debark after 7 days.

We ordered the birthday decorations for the cabin our DD's shared.

As others have mentioned... they will be put up on embarkation day, no matter when the actual celebration is.

That worked for us since one DD's B-day was embarkation day and the other's B-day was debarkation day.
They just left their decorations up all week.
They loved walking in and having the cabin decorated. :thumbsup2

The cake was fine, but like the above poster, I don't think we ever finished it. Just too busy doing other things I guess, and it's not like there isn't plenty of food anytime you want it.
;)

The birthday pkg on the ship is actually a pretty good price. My daughter was turning 10 on the ship. We embarked a couple of days before her bday, but she did not mind getting the cake and the decorations early - it made her feel special. I think we ate about half of the cake. On her actual bday they sang "Happy Birthday" and they gave her a cake in the dining room at dinner time. We were so full that we did not touch the cake. We probably should have taken the cake with us, but we ended up leaving it in the dining room. Anyways it is up to you if you decide to get your own cake because they will give you one anyways. I do think that my daughter really appreciated the room decorations.

I haven't read through all the posts, so forgive me if this is a repeat!!

What my husband did for my birthday on the cruise was to pack some birthday decorations and then we celebrated at dinner! He told our server and they brought me a huge hunk of cake for dessert......no cost (other then the $4000+ is cost us for the cruise ;) ). The cake was enough to share and take some back to the room. It had the birthday chocolate ship on it but was a square cake piece.......
I loved it all ....especially the cheesy dollar store decorations!!

To the orginal poster, I did take the time to read all of the postings, so I hope you can put it all together to make sense of it. The first slice of cake with the little girl is the piece you get at dinner for no charge. The second round cake posted is the one you have to preorder and purchase that is in your room on embarkment day with the decorations. I hope that helps.:hippie:

Hi: You can also call Disney Cruise Line and order a special cake to be delivered to your table at dinner. There were several different flavors available. We are a large group-so our cake was $85.00-I think there is a smaller cake available. Hope this helps!

Not to hijack the thread, but can you tell me more about this service? Are the cakes somewhat along the lines of what you can order through the cake hotline at WDW?

Thanks!
