Question about banking

So a really quick question I can not seem to find the answer to anywhere, when it comes to cashing your check is there a place on property where you can do that or would you need to go to a bank. The reason why I ask is I use a small credit union in my town and know they are not in Florida, I live in Indiana, I just wanted to check and see if I would need to open an account at a "big" (shudder) bank. Thanks in advance for the responses

I know when I did my program Fall 09' they automaticly signed you up for a Pay card account with Partners bank, and after one or two weeks you could sign up for direct deposit for your home back.

You will be able to set up direct deposit so that your check will automatically be placed in your account back home. Otherwise you can use the paycard thing that they give cps. I don't think CPs even get paper checks they just put the money on the Partners Paycard thingy. But I highly suggest direct deposit as the Paycard thingy has charges associated with it. As soon as you have HUB access (which you get set up during your training) you are able to set up direct deposit.

All Disney Cast Members and employees, including Disney Internships and Programs Participants, are eligible to receive a paper paycheque if they so like.

Florida-Site DI&P Participants will have Direct Deposit automatically prepared onto the Payroll Card provided to them upon arrival. All other DI&P Participants, as well as Florida-Site Participants wishing to have funds deposited into another account, will need to bring their financial institution's ACH information. This can be found at the bottom of most personal cheques issued in the United States.

Thanks for the information. Now I know how to plan for when I come down. I already have an account at PNC bank but I just hate big banks.

Kinda related.... If you are a current cast member anyone know if they will just go ahead and keep your direct deposit information and continue to deposit to the information they already have instead of a paycard?

If you are doing a Florida-Site Program, your preferences will be changed automatically to the payroll card provided. If you would like to continue receiving funds in your current account, you would need to re-update your preferences in SAP after your DI&P experience arrival date.

You should also remember that, since most Florida-Site DI&P positions are classified as CT roles, that you would lose your accumulated company (and Union/CBA, if applicable) seniority in transferring to one, which might impact your future prospects with Disney negatively. There continue to be many avenues of advancement for those already employed with this company that don't involve Disney Internships & Programs experiences.

If you are interested in pursuing other opportunities with The Walt Disney Company and Affiliated Companies, it might be best to pursue internal transfer opportunities by viewing the JOBS Online module on The Hub, or by speaking with your local Internal Casting/Casting Services (if you're employed within Walt Disney Parks and Resorts) or Human Resources (if employed elsewhere within Disney) office.

I've talked to different people in the company about it and have been told my seniority will be lost, but I have been told I can bridge after 5 years of CR status later. Unfortunately I have to take the internships to graduate from college because of my program's requirements. I would rather apply for some of the full time/salaried positions but my school will only accept internships to complete my degree (I need three). I have been assured though by the people I have talked to that it should have no negative effect on pursuing a career after I finish my internships. I'm currently more worried about finding a way to complete three internships consecutively since I've learned that you can only do two.

Bumping this thread. It's a great question that gets me confused a lot.

Question: I never worked so far in my life, and I don't have a bank account. I'm a bit confused on what the Pay Card Account is. Will that make me my own bank account just for the CP, and can you cash it so that you can spend it on things such as food and clothing?

I feel confortable on everything else I've read here about the DCP, just the issue with the paycheck scares me.

You will be able to use your paycard for everyday purchases. It's essientially just a normal Visa debit card. However, I could never purchase anything online with it...not sure why. But you can buy stuff from any walk in store easily. :thumbsup2 I used mine at Walmart Best Buy Target Burger King Taco Bell and Starbucks just to name a few.

The Payroll Card issued to Florida-Site Disney Internships & Programs Participants is a stored-value Visa Debit Card, similar to the Electronic Benefit Transfer Cards used in many U.S. states to distribute Social Assistance benefits (SNAP ["Food Stamps"], TANF, General Assistance, etc.). Your payroll funds will be automatically deposited weekly onto the card, which you can then use at most locations which accept VISA cards.

Here is was I did when I did the CP:

I didn't have an account with a national bank when I arrived on check-in day. During the first week there, I signed up with Chase. On that same day I opted for direct deposit, which they can set up for you at the same time you open the account. My first two checks were in paper form mailed to me but after I started direct deposit, it was all visible on the hub in a paperless format.

If you don't want your bank account after the program, just close the account when you leave. I found this to be the easiest method. It made it so I only spent the money I earned, and not touch any savings money I had.

The easiest way is to just use the account that Disney gives you since it's already DD you won't have to sign up for it and when it's done you have a cool little bank card with the castings building on it! (This is WDWs way I'm not sure how DL handles it)

DL is not nearly has helpful, it's all figure-it-out-yourself. It sounds like Florida knows what they are doing :)

Yeah there are a lot of advantages to the WDW program as far as housing and banking go. Just like I'm sure there are some in other areas at DL!:thumbsup2

I think it's awesome you're going to hopefully do both! I'll be applying for Spring 12 too!!

That really sounds easy to use. I don't buy things online, so I'm okay with that. Can the card also be used inside the parks/ Downtown Disney?

But do you still need a bank account to have the card? I like the idea that OCgirl said about making an account and closing it at the end. But I'm also wondering if someone like my dad can just use his account for the DCP when I do it, or does every DCPer need their own account?

I'm not good at understanding banks hehe. I appreciate the help!

No they will already have an account of sorts set up for you. You get there they give you the card a little information and tell you what day to activate it. All of your checks will be deposited on there automatically. They will give you a number you can call or you can set up text updates to let you know how much money you have in your account. OCgirl worked at the DL resort and things are different there from WDW. You can use the card anywhere that accepts Visa cards.:thumbsup2

Which include DTD the Parks and most of Orlando and the world honestly. You can use it anywhere.
