Sorry I know silly question but I havent flown in 6 years and all that travel was by myself. Now that I have a family does each family member get one checked bag and one carry on bag? (Even the 4yr old) Does a purse count as a carry on or have you ladies done a purse and a carry on case? Also can you still lock your checked bags or do they ask that you no longer do that for security. Not that my underware is so valuable but for suvoniers on the way home. (wish this thing had spell check!) Thanks for any help

You can check with your airline, but the general rule is TWO checked pieces of luggage per person, including the 4 year old, ONE carry on bag and one personal bag (i.e. purse, briefcase, etc.) per person. Airlines request that you not lock your luggage. If you do with a non FAA regulated lock (special locks that have a sort of master key) and they do a random search of your bags they can and will break your locks.

Every ticketed passenger gets the standard baggage allowance, regardless of age. Check your airline's website to get the specifics of what that allowance is.

If you have young children with you, I would advise against attempting to carry on the maximum number of bags you are allowed to carry. Check a couple of suitcases and keep your hands as free as possible for holding hands or pushing strollers.

Most carriers allow two pieces of checked luggage, thought a couple allow 3. Most allow a carry on bag and one personal item such as a purse, laptop, or something like that. Each ticket passenger is given the same allotment.

I agree, check the web site of your airline for specifics.

Most airlines allow two pieces of carryone - one 'personal' item and one other item. The 'personal' item is a purse, etc. Yes, technically anyone buying a seat ie your 4 yo gets two pieces.

Budbeerlady, Your purse is considered one of your two allowed carry ons. Have a great trip
