What struck me odd is that they never asked you the breed of the dog, yet said its a "banned breed."![]()
If they said "banned" I'm assuming, that they're assuming the dog is a Pit Bull as they're banned in almost all of Ohio (if not all).

ETA - when they were able to get hold of the VICK dogs, and bring them out West for rehab, and adoption and all that, they had to go ***around*** the state of Ohio when driving back with them, as Ohio will confiscate on the spot. Even if you don't live there.
OP - I'd be awfully careful right now. Depending on how important this dog is to you (and I'm assuming, quite so). You could get a sweet knock on the door, to take your dog. Do you have any proof this is NOT a Pit? I'd get that, and I'd get it quick.
I'm absolutely, positively against BSL. http://stopbsl.com/bsloverview/

and the rental office took their word for it. It could just be an issue of taking the dog to the rental office and introducing them to your pet, or providing documentation of it's breed.
