Question about AP room discounts

I'm sure that the answer is out there, but I'm not putting my finger on it.

I've been out of the Disney loop for about a year but just started to plan a trip in early January 2007. Last time we went, DS1 was 2yo but he'll be 4yo on our next trip so will need a park pass of some sort. DH and I have park passes leftover from our trip in September 2005.

I know that we can buy DS1 a MYW pass (didn't the no expiration option used to be MUCH cheaper???) but we're also considering an AP for him if it means getting a room discount.

There was talk a year ago about not being able to get AP room discounts with a child's AP - is that now the case? Or could we get him an AP and use it for discounts on the two rooms we'll need on our January 2007 trip (subject to room availability, of course)? Of course, if we couldn't get AP room discounts for our dates, we'd just buy him a MYW pass instead.

Alternatively, we could buy an AP for an adult in our party, I guess, but we all have our tickets from past trips. I'm just trying to minimize cash outlay, if possible!

TIA!!
