We just received our very first bill for annual dues. I noticed that it is due on March 1, 2008. Is it due every year at the same time or is it just due in March because we just purchased in January? Oh, it also mentions that it is prorated 338 days, what does this mean?
thanks.

Not sure if you purchased through Dis or via resale, but dues are due every year in mid-January and you have until mid-February to pay before penalties are assessed. With that said, it sounds as if you just received your bill because you just purchased and it was prorated based on your closing. Basically, Dis is only charging you 338 days worth of dues because you've only had the points available for 338 days, not 365.

So...once you pay this bill, you can expect a nice post-Christmas dues bill to come your way!!! DVC allows you to pay lump sum via check or credit card, or you can set up monthly electronic funds transfer from a US bank account.

We purchased DVC through Disney in Sept. with a closing date of late Oct. We did not get an annual dues statement in January but were told it would come in March because it was a recent purchase. Yesterday it was finally posted on the DVC site and we were able to make our payment. It is definitely due to you having a recent purchase. We were assured that in the future we will be recieving a bill in January. Our bill also included a small amount for last years dues which was prorated for the months of November and December. Welcome Home!! We are anxiously awaiting our first DVC visit in May.:cool1:

Steamboat Girlie, it sounds like you purchased from Disney. That pro rating of annual dues has to do with date of purchase. Disney will charge you dues for the calendar year from date of purchase (not date of closing) and it thus appears your actual date of purchase was about January 23 and your dues are the pro rated from that date until December 31, 2008, meaning you don't pay any amount for those first 23 days of January.

Dues for a calendar year are determined in December, i.e., dues for 2008 were determined in December 2007. For existing members, they are billed in January for the entire year. Since you bought in January, yours for 2008 are apparently now payable by March 1 and that is because they designated that date as the due date because you are a new purchaser.

You have an option that I am not sure you chose. Rather than paying all dues at once for the year at the beginning of the year, you can agree to pay them in monthly installments as long as you agree to have that done by automatic withdrawal from your checking account. They don't charge any interest or extra fees if you go monthly so the total amount you pay monthly throughout the year ends up equaling what you would have paid if you just pay lump sum at the beginning of the year. If you want to do monthly and have not set it up, you can call the Member Services number and go to accounting on the promps and they will tell you what you need to do.

When you purchase directly from Disney, your first year's dues are pro-rated from the later of: your purchase date, the start of your initial Use Year and the occupancy date of the unit you purchased.

For example, I purchased AKV in Feb 2007. My starting Use Year was Oct 2007 (so the first day of my initial UY was Oct 1, 2007). The occupancy date of the unit I purchased was Sep 1, 2007. The latest of those three dates was Oct 1, 2007 so I owed 92 days worth of dues for 2007.

In your case your dues started on Jan 29, 2008. That happens to be the occupancy date of the last units in AKV's Jambo House so I'm guessing your purchase date was no later than Jan 29, 2008. Your initial UY started in 2007. So the occupancy date determined the start of your dues.

How much are the current dues? I am seriously considering purchasing a 160 point contract through disney either at AKLV or SSR.
