My grandma has alzheimers. The last couple of times she went to the neurologist all he did was take her blood pressure and write her a new script. Shouldn't he be doing more? Like giving her some neuro tests of some sort? Should we look into finding a new Dr.?
He really spends no time with her.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, my grandfather had Alzheimer's and now they think my grandmother is starting to show signs. The best resource I've found is the Alzheimer's Association. There's no cure, but the site overviews treatments (& not just drugs).

Unfortunately, there is nothing more the doctor can do... my FIL has alzheimer's and lives with us, so I've been there, done that.... As long as he writes a script for one of the drugs they think helps, that's about all they can do :(

Pretty much any tests they do at this point will be showing decline, which you already know is happening.

Unless there is an acute change in behavior, such as from someone who was pleasantly confused to someone who becomes agitated or combative and confused, keeping the person on track with meds is about the best thing to do.

By all means, if you think you want to try another doc, do so. Perhaps a fresh pair of eyes may make some minor adjustments that may or may not help.

I would also second the recommendation to access the Alzheimers Association. It is a wonderful resource.
