Question about alternate entrance?

Unfortunate compound fracture of toe for my daughter. Having surgery right before our WDW trip. Bringing a wheelchair from home as I want to be able to elevate her leg some. I am thinking she will be able to take a few steps as they are not casting, just a surgical shoe. The rides with Alternate entrance----do I still need to fastpass them? (like Splash, Space ??) I wish we could just cancel but meeting up with friends from Australia. My daughter doesn't really care if she misses out on some rides, but I would like her to still have a little fun. Thank you.

Ouch, that sounds painful.
The vast majority of queues at WDW are wheelchair accessible, so you will not need an alternate entrance. For the few that are not accessible, you will be directed accordingly by the CM at the queue entrance. You may be given a wheelchair return time, which is sort of like a fastpass with a 1 hour window to return. This is to prevent the alternate entrance from getting backed up. If you have a FP+ for that ride, I believe the wheelchair return time will be immediate.

For rides that have stairs within the queue (you mention Splash) -- you enter the queue as usual and will be directed to a pull-off to avoid the stairs.

I hope she heals quickly. Enjoy your vacation!

At Splash, the wheelchair pullout is near the stairs where you go inside - so if you don't want to wait in the standby queue up to that point (and that can be a long wait) you'd need to book FP.

Thank you. Having never needed a wheelchair it is difficult for me to visualize the whole process. Will keep my current fastpasses and hope for the best. Thanks.

at MK
BTMRR if you do not have a FP you will be given a return time and you will go to the exit ( the CM will tell you where to go)
JC you go between the exit and normal lines ( again the CM will tell you)
Small world I think you go to the exit ( do not ride it much and my friend is the one with eh ECV)
space montion only the FP line is accessible ( only wheel chair) so if you do not have a FP you will be given a return time)

EPCOT
space ship earth you go to the exit

I think this is all of the alternative entrance

what my friend dose ( and she goes down about once ever 8 to 10 weeks) is she will smile at the CM when going in any line so this way if there is something she need to do the CM can tell her. Takes just another second and it really brings some pixie dust to front line CM that have a hard enough job.

I hope this helps you

Most attractions for all parks are listed as "Enter through standard queue" for attractions without Fastpass or "Obtain a FASTPASS OR use Standby Queue" on the Guide for Guest with Disabilities maps for each park. There is also a large red box on the maps which says "Guests with any mobility or queue related assistance needs are encouraged to use the Disney's FASTPASS option where ever possible." There is the same explanation about how to use Fastpass as on the regular park maps.

At WDW, there are a handful of attractions that do not have accessible entrances and may give out times to return to the attraction -
Big Thunder Mountain RR and Jungle Cruise at MK and Spaceship Earth at Epcot do not have accessible entrances and may give out return times.
You may also be given a return time at Living With the Land at Epcot.
The ride in Mexico at Epcot does have an alternate entrance - go to the regular entrance and the CM will direct you.
The return time will generally be similar to the wait in the Standby line and will be valid for a 1 hour time window.

There are a few that have a separate accessible boarding area, but for those, guests wait in the regular line (or Fastpass line if they have Fastpass Plus) until almost at the boarding area, then they move to the accessible boarding area.

Small World is kind of a hybrid attraction. The regular line is accessible to the last turn on the front side. Guests without Fastpass Plus wait in the regular line until they get to that point. Since the Fastpass line for SW is not accessible, guests with Fastpass go directly to the accessible boarding area.

There is more information (including attractions with a difficult step) in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, located near the top of this board.

I would not bother with a FP for Space ship Earth. you get shunted directly to the exit and there is a small waiting area next to the ramp and someone will direct you into the ride from there. usually immediately or within 5 minutes unless there are a lot of others waiting .

That's good to know. I currently have a fastpass for spaceship earth. Hopefully will be able to change it to something else that would be a much longer wait. Do you just park the ECV at the exit for spaceship earth and find it there again at the end of the ride?

yes you park your ECV walk a few steps up a little incline ( I think they have wheel chair there if you need it) and you go in the exit of the ride then you will get off and walk off the same way you came on.

just a note if the line is longer then 10 minutes you may get a return time to come back ( my friend was given one when the line was 30 minute) and then you will go to the exit where you will wait your turn to go on the ride. I was told they can only have either 2 or 3 people on the ride that need assistance incase it breaks down

Personally I find the incline to be pretty steep, but I am also in a WC and go right up to the ride vehicle to transfer. honestly have never been there when an ECV is also waiting
