Question about Alice in Wonderland

So I will be making my first trip to Disneyland during Spring Break next year and I'm so excited because I get to experience a whole new crop of attractions we don't have here at WDW.

One of these of course happens to be Alice in Wonderland. I hated it as a kid but it has rapidly become a favorite of mine and I can't wait to ride the ride.

Here is my situation though: I DESPISE the Cheshire Cat. Always have. I think that's why I hated it as a child. He creeps me out SO BADLY and I'm terrified of him. It's only the Disney version too, the one in Tim Burton's Alice doesn't scare me (although he is creepy too.) Whenever I watch Alice in Wonderland I always make sure I'm skipping his scenes, whenever me and my friends play Scene it? Disney Edition, I always close my eyes and plug my ears whenever his clip comes on. I just HATE him.

Thing is, he's in the ride. I know he is and I hate it....so that's where I need help. I need to know when to close my eyes and plug my ears so I don't have to deal with him. Can anyone help?
Also, is there anyone else out there who shares my fear? I'd be surprised if there was since I've never heard of it.

ALSO, is there anything else I need to avoid in DLR so I don't have to encounter my fear?

Thanks guys!!

I should also mention that what scares me most about him is his smile...like when he disappears or appears and that's the only thing that shows. I. HATEEE. IT. So yeah, I need to avoid that.

Also, when the moon is in a crescent shape, it usually reminds me of him, so that freaks me out as well.
As you can tell, I'm deathly terrified.

There is also a "statue" (I guess you would call it that) of the Cheshire Cat on the Eastern outside side of Alice, facing the matterhorn. He is tucked into the rocks probably 6-7 feet off of the ground.... so either turn your head when walking past that section in the park or go a different route. I would post a picture, but.... I think that might not exactly help your fear! :goodvibes

Maybe you should find the ride on a youtube video to get used to it.

I've tried.....that's how I know hes there haha. I think hes sometime after the queen of hearts?? I usually get too scared and fast forward to the part outside of the ride. I'm a scaredy cat....oh the irony.

:lmao:hahaha well thank you!!! Now I know he's somewhere being creepy like always!! Yeah no picture necessary lol thank you though...I will for sure try to avoid that area or ask my friend to look for it so that way I can avoid it haha

I seem to remember him before the queen, but perhaps he appears more than once? The one place I remember him is in the garden scene. You enter around a corner into the room then make a hairpin turn and I seem to remember him up to the left in a tree...anyone else, does that sound right???

After you see the signs that give directions. You make a left and then right, cover your eyes there.

You will hear him talk and the make a left you can uncover your eyes.

Then after the two signs that say "watch" and out" You make a right then left, cover your eyes there.

You make a right and then go through a door and can open them.

When you go outside and then back in cover them as you make a right.

After making a right open them again.

ahh thank you both so much!!! Just what I was looking for...thats perfect! I really want to have a great time and enjoy the ride and I just know that haveing more of a physical incarnation of it will just freak me out! Thanks so much!!!!

Also, I heard there is some mirror somewhere (maybe one of the shops) that has him and that he appears? Definately want to avoid that too

*RIDE SPOILERS*

I just watched the ride through video and he appears right after the garden scene where the flowers kick you out. A little more then 1/3 into the ride. It sounds like you hear his voice before you see him. Then he slowly appears, smile first. Then there's the scene with the weird birds and you hear him again directing you to the Queen's hedge maze. He's above the doorway leading into that room. After the 'Off with her head!" part you have a short stint outside and turn back into the dark part of the ride. Inside you see his head tilting side to side giving his 'We're all mad here' speech. Then on to the unbirthday party and back outside. On the way out he's carved into the left side of the wall above words welcoming everyone back from the ride.

So, yeah. He's in here quite a bit. Maybe you're friend should ride first or memorize the ride videos so they know when to tell you to hide and when it's safe otherwise you'll miss most of the ride.

You're right, he's in the hatters hat shop. That should be easy to avoid though by not looking in the mirror.

Yeah thats starting to sound like a better idea....I dont want to avoid the ride altogether but its starting to seem like I just might. If I do send her first is the wait usually long for this ride? I def. want to avoid seeing him since he starts with the smile....UGH horrid.

It's called "Ailurochesirephobia"

omg how'd you find that out?!?!? lol maybe i'm not the only one....

Ah okay good...I was wondering which shop it would be. I should just probably avoid it altogether, if not for the cat but just to save a couple bucks :lmao:

hahaha i did the same thing!!! Too funny....lol and well thank you!!! I hope its as cheshirefree and my overall life is :) lol

Whatever you do, don't look in the mirror at the hat shop next to the Alice ride. I *like* the Cheshire Cat, and seeing him appear in the mirror is kind of creepy to me...can't imagine how badly it would upset someone who's terrified of him.

Myself, I'm scared of the pop-up ghosts in Haunted Mansion.

omgggg thats scary!!! lol what exactly is it??? im sure i'd cry haha

ah those are creepy!!! i always hold my breath because i know theyre coming!! One time I got stuck right in front of them....awful experience

It's a Cheshire Cat face behind a two way mirror; it looks like a normal mirror, and then...he magically appears. Like i said, it is creepy & I'm not even afraid of him. It's probably best that you avoid the hat shop...get a Mouse Ears hat any other place but there.

I, too, have been stuck right in front of the pop-up ghosts :scared1: I love the Haunted Mansion otherwise, but those things scare me. Not because of how they look (stationary, they're rather silly looking), but in motion...AAAAAH!
