Hi all! I have a question (from my mom, actually) about a promotion she's heard about wherein if you buy 100 points, you receive 200 additional points for AKV (or something along those lines). They've been DVC members for several years now and have points split between BCV and BWV, but she and my dad are very interested in possibly getting some AKV points as well. I've been hunting around all over the place and haven't seen mention of any kind of promotion involving AKV at all, so I just thought I'd see if anyone here had heard of anything.

Thanks a bunch in advance!!

Quick summary: if they add on at least 100 points they can get either twice that number of developer points with their purchase or $8/pt off the current price of $104/pt. Both options include a full set of 2007 UY points. The developer points expire in 12 months and cannot be banked or transferred. They can be used to book any resort, but only 7 months or less from check-out. There is a rumor that the promotion ends Aug 31st.

There are several threads on the first page of the DVC Operations board discussing the "double developer points" promotion. If you go digging beyond the first page of that board you will find many more because this has been a hot topic for several weeks. Good luck!

Ah, thanks very much! I wasn't entirely sure what they were calling the promotion or whatever, so that made it a little hard to search for effectively. I'll check out the threads. Thanks again!!

What makes it especially difficult is that people are using the acronym DDP to refer to the "double developer points" promotion. DDP is also the acronym for the Disney Dining Plan. So if you see a thread with "DDP" in the title, it may be about this promotion or it may be about the dining plan. You can also look for threads with "incentive" or "current incentive" in the title.

I know! I skimmed over tons of posts by people with questions about the DDP because I assumed they were referring to the Disney Dining Plan. At any rate, thanks a bunch for the links; I've forwarded them on to my mom, who's in the midst of a campaign to get my dad to do this. She just needed more ammo. ;)

I see you are from St. Louis. If your parents are close to Chicago also, they may want to consider driving to the Doorway to Dreams store at Woodfield.
For an ADD-ON, the can get both a discount and developer points. Three levels:

110 points + $8 off AKV + 110 developer points
160 points + $8 off AKV + 240 developer points
210 points + $8 off AKV + 420 developer points

This offer at the Woodfield Mall expires August 31st, must use the developer points within 12 months of closing and you must visit in person.

DH and I are going to be going to Woodfield tomorrow or Saturday to get some info. I did have one question for you guys, what is this DDP points that you are talking about? Is that just bonus points that you get to use? We were thinking of getting about 170 points per year. We are going in Feb so we are just trying to decide what to do since it is coming up pretty quick.

DDP = Double Developer Points. If you purchase a new 160-pt or larger AKV or SSR contract you will get some number of bonus points with your purchase. (The deals are better at Woodfield, as listed in vandy's post. If you purchase elsewhere, you get a choice of a discount of $8/pt (AKV), $10/pt (SSR) OR a double set of developer points, but not both.)

Think of developer points as "generic" DVC points because they do not have a home resort. That also means you can only use them to book 7 months prior to check out, not 11 months prior as you can with true home resort points, at least when using them at a DVC resort. I'm not sure what the booking rules are when using them for other things like cruises, WDW resort hotels, etc. They are good for 1 year from your purchase date. They cannot be banked or transferred, so it's "use 'em or lose 'em".

You will also get a set of home resort points for AKV/SSR with your purchase. Those points can be banked into your next Use Year.

Not 100% certain but it seems to me you'd have to be an Illinois resident to buy at the Chicago office. Does anyone know for sure?

Wouldn't the agents there have to be registered real estate brokers in order to sell, and if so, wouldn't they most likely just be licensed to sell in Illinois?

I'd call ahead before making that long of a drive from St. Louis to Chicago.

Yes, we called several times and did make the trip from Iowa over to add-on 160 points. The incentive is still as previously stated until August 31st. Also, I think I forgot to mention they are also waiving the closing costs as well. We saw the new AKV models and were actually impressed.

The question of selling to non-Illinois residents may be that this is simply a branch office and the main brokerage is still in Florida with all documents originating there. In effect, it is no different than purchasing by telephone through DVC. If you are in a state that Disney has the license to sell their timeshare, you should be able to purchase from Woodfield.

The incentives I have mentioned are only for ADD-ONS, not new contracts. The incentives for new contracts I believe are the same as if you went through your guide at DVC in Florida. (Call out to the store to find out for sure. They may be waiving closing costs on new contracts??? Their website is www.doorwaytodreams.com).

The incentives for new contracts are double developer points OR $8 off AKV or $10 off SSR. DDP means DVC will give you double the points you purchased. For example, you are looking at 170 points, they will give you an additional 340 points to use within 12 months. If you purchase from the existing SSR, you will receive 170 points from December 2006, the 340 DDPs then have another 170 points come on in December 2007.

I have heard some state they received a gift certificate when they went to the mall, but I am not sure that is worth the drive. For our 160 point add-on, we received 240 developer points and saved close to $2000 with the $10 off SSR incentive and no closing costs. Well worth the drive for an add-on.

Is this for just add on's? What are the incentives for people just purchasing, not adding on?
