Right now i'm waiting to see if 25 points become available through resale. I would prefer to get them at SSR or BWV, but with only 25 points I know I will not have much of a choice. Once I do buy and am "in the system" will I be able to buy as little as 25 points through DVC at any resort or will I have to buy them at my original timeshare? If buy chance by resale I only find available for example... Vero Beach, but I buy 25 points through disney at SSR will I be able to combine 25+25 at any other resort? Will I be able to use all 50 points at the 11 month point at either one of the resorts even though not all 50 points are from one specific resort. I know its a complicated question, sorry.

Also, btw... If all else fails and I do decide to finance 150 points through disney and do a 10 year loan, what would my down payment pbbly be and what kind of maintenance fee/monthly payment am I looking at? If I decide to pay the maintenance fee in monthly payments, will it be a different bill or be added to my financing. I know you guys dont recommend DVC if you have to finance for so long, but I am just wondering for those of you who might have done this. Thanks a lot!

You can buy at any resort, pending availability of the points.

No, you cannot. You can only book at 11 months for the number of points you own at that resort. However, you could use banking and borrowing to your advantage. If you need 50 points for a 2006 reservation, you could book at 11 months by using the 2006 points and borrowing from 2007 at the same resort.

Down payment at today's prices with $8 per point discount would be $1740. Monthly payments (including dues) would be about $200.

If I decide to pay the maintenance fee in monthly payments, will it be a different bill or be added to my financing.

You save 1% on the interest rate if you schedule monthly direct debits of the payments. If you do this, technically it's two transactions, but they should occur on the same date.

Paying interest is never good, but buying DVC even with the interest payments is a lot more economical than paying cash for the next couple of decades. If you can get a home equity loan, consider that as a source of funding. If you have to go through DVC, do whatever you can to pay it off early. There are no pre-payment penalties.

I financed and I plan to pay it off sooner since the 10 year plan has no penalty for early pay off or extra payments. It was $1740 for 150 points and the whole financing and processing time was very smooth and quick. I think the financing would be a bad idea if someone only paid the minimum for the next ten years, otherwise, I know that it has been helpful for many people.

ok, so with 2 small contracts at different resort, once its 7 months, will I THEN be allowed to pool all my points together for one reservation, or will I need to book 2 different stays... Sorry, but thanks!

At 7 months, it doesn't matter what your home resort is. They all can be used in one big pot.

Just try to get all your points the same use year. Otherwise you have to worry about different banking deadlines, expirations, etc. We have one small 50 point package with a different use year from our other 450 points. We always have to ask if they used those points in the reservation. We never got a DVC blue card for those 50 points, either.

We also went through Disney for our initial purchase at VWL, but, paid off early also. The contract was for 10 years, but, we paid it off in 2 1/2, so, the interest really wasn't that bad. We also did a direct debit from our account to save on the interest and we also pay our dues monthly by direct debit.

IF you want 50 points, you'll be better off just buying 50 to start with. With that few points the advantage of 2 home resorts is essentially lost. If all you can afford at the present time is 25, save the money and buy the 50 or so at one time when you have it saved.

ONE LAST question.... So let's say I buy 50 points to start with at BWV, and then by 25 extra points through DVC direct at BWV, will it not necessarily be added to my original 50 points contract? Will it be a whole new contract. In other words, it would not just be (1) 75 point contract? Sorry for all the questions, but I really want to make sure I know everything before I sign the deal.

Thanks!

If you bought 50 points resale then 25 points direct through DVC at the same resort and use year, they would function as ONE contract. Though technically two separate ones, the only way you'd see any difference is in the legal documentation and sales options.

Thanks A lot! I really dont want to have more than one home resort. If I can find 35-50 at SSR or BWV to get me into the system, i'll be set. i Definately dont see the point of buying at HH or VB if I really dont plan on going there. If all else fails I guess I would have to settle for OKW, VWL.... or whatever other DVC property there is as long as its in WDW property.

Thanks for the help!

There are really only a few reasons to buy in with this few points. infrequent stays of very 2-3 years, a few days as an add on to another Orlando trip (? other timeshare) or anyone who is trying to get the perks for a nominal price. I would expand your options to all on site options. Whether I'd consider an off site (VB or HH0 depends on when you want to go.

well, I would really like to get DVC with as little as 25 points because I dont mind either visiting every 2 years and bank and borrow points or just add 2 deluxe resorts stays at the end of our regular hotel stays, then staying at a value resort wouldnt seem so bad. And although they are not permanent, I can use a lot of the member perks.

If it works for you then go for it. You seem to have a realistic view of the options. Given the right circumstances, one can justify the high transfer costs of a small package.
