Question about AAA

We are staying at RPR standard room from 4-12-08 through 4-19-08, seven nights. I booked this months ago at rack rate for $1,983.38 for just the hotel stay. I called to get the AAA discount and was told I could not use AAA because I booked the trip myself. I didn't use a travel agent. Do you really have to use a travel agent to get the AAA discount? They also told me even If I did use a travel agent, the AAA discounts were used up.
 
When I initially booked my stay at RPR, I used the AAA discount and I called Universal directly to book it with no problem. I found that the SuperSaver rate was actually cheaper and switched it to that - again myself. I'd call back and speak to another reservations rep and see what they say.
 
I book direct and make reservation with the rack rate, then as AAA rates come out call back and have the rate applied to my booking. Never had any problems. If it was booked with a travel agent, as far as i understand you cannot get your rates changed, you are stuck with the rate you booked.
But as they only have a certain amount of rooms for AAA rates probably all booked.
Why not call back and if you cannot get the AAA rate, call again with your dates for a new booking and see if they give you AAA rate, then just cancel the other booking.

I called back several times and was told the same thing. I can't use AAA by myself, had to use travel agent. I tried using AAA to rebook and all standard rooms were now booked. I had to upgrade to waterview so no savings there. Oh, well, I will just go with what I got.

Did a travel agent book the initial reservation? That is the only time it cannot be changed by you, the TA "owns" the reservation even though it is in your name.

I would continue to check the Universal website to see if there are any deals that come up for your dates, like a supersaver rate.
 
Nope. I booked it myself. They will not let me use my AAA by myself even if I upgraded to the available waterview room. Several Universal agents told me if I wanted a AAA discount that I would have to book through AAA. I will keep checking for supersaver, though.
 
I booked myself, at rack rate several months ago. As soon as I saw that AAA rates were out, I called and changed my ressie to the AAA rate. I ran into your situation at Nickelodeon hotel though - the rooms available for AAA rate were all gone for my dates, so I had to book at rack - YUCK!! AAA rates go quickly I guess.

Did you originally book through universal vacations or directly with the hotel?

For Universal Vacations, you cannot use AAA, but with Central Reservations for the hotels, you can use AAA on your own. Is this the number you are calling: 1-888-273-1311 or are you calling 1-877-801-9720 ?

You should be calling the first number. That is the reservations desk.

I did book through Universal Vacations, the 877 801-9720 number. So I called the hotel direct at 1-888-273-1311. I asked them if I could rebook it through them. They told me they could not and put me through to the preferred desk. The preferred desk said noone was offered AAA during the time I am going (4-12-08 -- 4-19-08). These people told me so many different things that I think I am just going to stick with what I got unless a better supersaver rate comes out. They gave me a headache. Thanks again for your help.
 
Wow. I booked HRH with the supersaver rate online. Then I called yesterday and changed it to AAA. I called the 888 number. Good luck to you.
