Our trip isn't until Dec 09 - I am thinking of getting a membership so we can get the AAA discount (Poly). How do I know IF it's available at the AAA rate before I sign up for a membership? Will they give me a quote or do I have to be a current member to get a quote?

ALSO, if a code comes out (or free dining, etc) will I be able to apply that to our ressie or not if we have AAA rate?

Thank you!

you can get a quote without them asking for your membership. when booking, i have sometimes had them ask for my number and sometimes not . the other thing to think about is that it is a membership that is renewed annually, so if you are thinking about Dec 09, you might have to get membership and then renew it this time next year.

but really, AAA has lots of good discounts on things (aside from Disney). It's not just maps and hotel discounts.... i just got a discount w/my card the other day at Payless shoes. YOu can also get discounts at Hard Rock and a few other restaurants. And they *have* jumped the car a few times when little hands played with the dome light and I ended up with a dead battery! Have also used their free towing

if free dining comes out, you won't be able to have the discount on the room *and* the free dining. It's one or the other.

Thanks! I think that the discount would be worth more than free dining anyhow since we'll be at Poly. At least that's what I'm hoping! haha I think I'm giong to wait till Jan to look into it. I may be outta luck and AAA may be sold out of their rates but I'd rather not "risk" 2 yrs subscriptions wtih them. I'm still praying for codes instead! haha And we're pretty flexible with our dates as well. Thanks for the info! OHH when you say that "they" give you the rate wtihout the ID, is that by calling AAA or calling Disney?

i have always called WDW central reservations to find out the AAA rate. (In fact I did it last nite!). But they will only deal w/room only reservations, not AAA pkgs, which need to be booked thru AAA directly.

Interestingly enough, for the dates I was looking at in November, there was about a 15 CENT difference between my AAA rate, my FL resident rate, and the AP holder rate. So sometimes AAA is very competitive!

I have booked w/ AAA before and on my own, but still haven't figured this out.

I know if I book directly through Disney, I can get a AAA discount on my room only. I am planning to book a package (tix and dining). So, what is the deal? If I book with Disney I get NO AAA room discount since I am booking it as a package? (When I booked on my own it was for free dining so no AAA room discount or otherwise was involved)
Do I have to book with AAA to get a room discount since I am getting tix and dining with it OR do I get a different "package" discount that could be a better discount than standard AAA room discount?
Summary:
The only way to get a AAA discount through Disney directly is to book rooom only? If I want a package and I want to book through Disney, I sacrifice AAA discount?
If I book my package through AAA, I will stil get a discount on the room, but only the room.

TIA if anyone can help.

Well my issue is that we are going 1st week in Dec (09) and it seems that week that discounts/codes are not offered. I guess b/c it's POP Warner week. :confused3 So I'm starting to think the ONLY way I'll get a discount is if I join AAA.

Your summary is correct.

Room only - can get AAA discount through AAA or Disney.
Package - can get AAA discount only through AAA. Discount is on room portion of package only. Can book any other type of package, including public discount codes, through Disney.

If you book a AAA package, your AAA travel agent should be able to apply any discount code that comes out later to your package. However, you would then lose your AAA discount; you can only use one discount per package.

Clear as mud?

You are correct. To get the AAA discount on the room portion of a package you need to book it through a AAA travel agent. For a room only AAA discount you can do it on your own.
It is possible that some other discount could be offered by disney on a package that would be better than the AAA room discount on that same package. You would need to do the math to decide that. If so, and you have a package booked through AAA, they should be able to get you the better discount, assuming it is available for your resort and dates.

It is aggravating. I want a package, but I also want the AAA discount. However, I really hate having the AAA agent as the middle man. So much more trouble.
Any guesses on odds for a June discount?

Couple of suggestions:

Don't go to the local office. Go via the 800 number.
Insist to talk to a Disney specialist.
Have them flag your rez so anyone can make changes.
Ask for weekly schedule and any potential vacations.
Ask for email address.
Verify they can make a rez. themselves online without calling.

My current TA for example applied the GA code at 6:30am, before the code was released and Disney opened. Also, she was scheduled to be on vacation that date but she still did the changes anyway before I even called her.
