Question about AAA Discounts

Can you save money on just hotel rooms via AAA like you can for tickets??

Our local AAA office told me we can buy 5 day park hopper passes for $221 each.

Can they offer discounts for Disney resorts?

Do I have to go through AAA to get the discounted price (if there is one) or can I call Disney and get the discounted rate if I'm a AAA member.

The reason why I'm asking here is because when I inquired about tickets only I was told that AAA would like me to book a package deal with them. This deal cost more than if I booked it all myself at full price. Then I was asked about insurance and such.
When I asked about just the resort room I was told that they would book packages for me.

Thanks for any tips you can give me.

OH... I just wanted to mention. I put one item on ebay that sold last night. I now have $32 more for my trip than before. Yippee and hugs to those who told me about ebaying my way to Disney.

you can ask Disney for AAA rates on room only reservations, the package rates for AAA are exclusively through AAA., Disney cannot book AAA packages ..and I have found that AAA does not always have the lowest package rates all the time. It pays to do your homework....and compare, before locking into a vacation package.

disneysnowflake- Love your Animal Crossing cat! Everytime I see it it reminds me I am susposed to buy it for my DS birthday!!
I am also going to book room only reservations with a AAA discount for my next trip. (I am hoping that AP rates will come out, but want to have something in case they don't!). The AAA rates have historically come out in June for the entire following year (ie this year's AAA discounts came out last June; this June 2005's rates will come out.). So, if you're going this year book a room as soon as you know when you're going to get the best choice of what's available. If your're going in 2005, check in at mousesavers through June to hear when the rates have come out.

Not sure exactly what you mean, but I called AAA and got quotes for a Room-Only reservation and they did not try to pressure me into a package at all. In fact, they mentioned they also have tickets available and did not say they were only available with a package.

disneysnowflake,

Do you mean park hopper or park hopper plus? The Disney Store sells a 5 day park hopper (not plus) for $217. Which looks to me like a better price than AAA.

Keep in mind that different states have their own AAA offices. Just because AAA Carolinas will do a room-only doesn't mean the AAA offices in PA will. I have also used AAA for a room only discount, booking through Disney.

I'm aware of that. I was told by an online national travel agency that the only discounts available right now for my time of travel May31-June5 was a AAA discount for room only. They quoted me one price, and my local agency quoted me a price $70 cheaper with full prepayment over five nights.

Okay. I'm confused.
I was told at our Disney Store that 5 day advance purchase park hopper passes are $231.11 for the basic 5 day park hopper pass which includes tax.

So, if I were to buy my tickets via AAA for Disney at $221 is that price before taxes? And if they do add tax I'm taxed at the WDW tax rate, correct? Does anyone know what that would be?

I'm just trying to figure out which way is the best way to go for me.

Thanks for the help.

I would call your AAA office and ask. I believe you would be charged tax at your state's sales tax rate.

I just called my AAA office, but no one could answer my question about tax. I was told a trip booking agent would have to call me back within the week. Sigh.

The AAA ticket price includes the Florida tax. You do not pay your state's sales tax (if any) on them.

Disney's web site quotes the ticket prices without the tax figured in. Add the 6.5% tax ($14.11) to the $217 price and you will pay the $231.11 figure from Disney mentioned earlier.

Thanks. My friend just found out that tickets through our AAA already include tax.

I've already booked my room only, too. I called WDW, got the AAA rate and saved 20%. :)

Now all I have to do is find cheaper airfare and wait... wait 10 months. Ack!!

So, disneysnowfkake, where did you book? :bounce: :Pinkbounc Ten months doesn't seem too long to me (see below). Nice to see someone else's trip take shape! :)

Im booking my package through AAA for July 19-24, 04. I did hours and days of research, studying the best deal for a family of 2 adults, 1 junior and 1 child. Staying at Pop Century with dream maker upgraded to silver...was $2,184. With the wishes, we are using them for dinner shows, nice restaurants and the Cirqus du Soleil, just the adults and the junior child are using them. The wishes are pooled together and it doesnt matter how you use them. We are paying for the child's eats. If we did not do this package, we would not be able to experience WDW like we have plan. My husband would never pay $175 + just for a dinner show and now we have 3 planned plus the Cirque tickets and the nice restaurants. I feel we are diffenitely getting the better deal.
