Question about a somewhat complicated 2 room booking--TIA

Here is our situation:

My husband and I each put down an OBB on our last cruise. We are using it this summer with friends of ours. We booked one room under my name and one room under his name and split up the other family. I've got the wife and my kid in my room. He's got the husband and the other kids in his room. If it matters to anyone, we are going on the Northern European cruise. We also have connecting rooms.

Here are my questions:
1. How will we work onboard charges? One of the TAs said we could rearrange who is in our room once we check in at the port. Does that sound right?

2. How could we work the photo package? I know that my husband could buy the package, and include our minor children in the package. Would this allow us to have all of in the photo package? I never take photos by myself and I assume, but don't know, that the other wife would only take photos with her husband/children.

3. Can we get room keys for the other room?

For anyone who is more visual, here is a breakdown of our cabins:

CABIN 1: H1, H2, kid2, kid2
CABIN 2: W1, W2, kid1, kid1

Thank you!!!

You will be fine.

Once you do your online check-in, you can assign each person in each room whichever credit card you wish. So you can surely match it up the way you wish.

They will definitely give you whatever room key cards you would like.

As for the photo package, are you saying that you want to get one, but your friends do not? In that case, as you say, the only time you woul have even a chance at a problem is if you were to want to be in a photo without any of your family members (either alone or with your friend's family), even then, I think they would accommodate you.

If both you and your friend want to get the package, then there is no problem as all the photos will be covered and worst case, you will just have to trade some photos afterwards, but in our experience, if you go to them and say, hey, such and such photos should be in our room's package, they will do it no problem.

Have fun! Travelling with friends is Awesome!

Well, we both want the pictures, but I was trying to figure out the cheapest way possible of buying the pictures. I didn't know if we could get one package and it would basically cover all of us or if we should get one package and then could buy the 50% off package too. Does that make sense?

Oh, I see. Hmm. I really don't know how they will handle that. So technically, if you buy the package for "cabin A" it will cover the minor children in other cabins, and certainly the wives are covered when they are in pictures with people that are covered, but will the company go for essentially covering two families because both husbands are in cabin A. I really can't say. I can only say that my sense was they were pretty lose about it on the ship, but you may have to go back a couple of times and say, "Hey, my children's photos aren't in our portfolio." And since you can't buy the second one until you get on the ship anyway, you may as well try to do it with on cabin and see what happens once you get on.

All the best!

If you (your husband) purchases the full digital package, any photos taken that have anyone that's actually on that room reservation plus (his) minor children in a second room would be included in the package. Any photos that have adults only from the second room would not be included.

Cheapest way to get all photos of all people would be for one room to purchase the full digital package pre-cruise (15% discount). Then, once onboard you go to Shutters to show you have the package purchased, and a second room can buy the same (full digital package) at 50% off.

Before almost everyone in our family was platinum we were always moving people around t9 ensure that the people assigned to all rooms got all the platinum benefits even if they didn’t actually sleep there. Once onboard go to the guest services desk and ask for the people in the wrong room to be switched to the right room. And you can ask for keys to both rooms. However with adjoining rooms with a connecting door do you really need that? Basically you can just keep the connecting door closed but unlocked to allow movement as needed and people can be in whatever room they want to be.

As for charging we always pay for everyone in our family but On the online registration form you can list who can charge so I’m assuming you can assign different cards.

We never get the pictures so can’t help you there. We always take pictures with our own phones at the same time the photographer is taking pictures. Saves a tremendous amount of money I have learned after 20 cruises.

Just to keep confusion out of it, rooms with a door connecting them are "connecting" in travel-industry speak. Rooms next to or across the hall from each other but without the door are "adjoining". :) It saves a LOT of confusion in the long run.

But yes...that would work. The only glitch would be if they are at different muster stations which can happen, even with connecting rooms. Each person would need to go to the muster station they are assigned to.
