Question about a PIN

I received a 40% PIN via snail mail and email. Apparently it was for passholders only. (I didn't realize this until I went to call the number listed on my piece of snail mail and it was the passholder line! Whoops!) I'm currently a passholder, but it expires 8/9. I'm booking a short trip in October and it's the only one to WDW this year, so I'm not renewing my AP (doesn't make financial sense.) When I booked the room the CM seemed fairly confused about the whole thing and it was me who said not to use the pin code.

I'm assuming that was the right thing to do since if questioned on check-in, I won't have the AP. Was I correct? I need to call anyway to change our dates to a week later, should I check again? Any experience or advice, it'd be appreciated, I've never gotten to use a pin code before...usually I use just the room only rate that's available to passholders!

A follow up: if I can't use the pin, what do you think the chances are that Disney will release a room-only discount to the general public for Oct 15-18? :confused3

Nevermind. I had a rant because I'm frustrated that Disney expected me to renew my AP, but I know the right thing to do is just to let it drop and hope for a room only discount that's released to the general public.

I'm still irked a little at Disney. They need to put on their offers like this that you MUST have a valid Annual Pass. So that way if you don't plan on renewing, you can toss it. :snooty:
