Question about a picky eater & DDP

So here's my dilemma. There are 4 of us: DH, myself, DD13 and DD10. This is the first time DD10 will be considered an "adult" in terms of dining, which means if we do the DDP we will be purchasing an adult package for her. I have 2 questions/concerns:

1. Can she still eat off the kids menu? I don't see why not...

2. I know if you buy the DDP you have to purchase it for everyone in the group, correct? So is it worth it to get the Deluxe Dining Plan (1 TS, 1 CS, 1 snack per day) if DD10 will most likely be eating off the kids menu? She is so picky that I still believe she will mostly be eating mac-n-cheese, pasta, chicken tenders, etc.

Thanks for any input! :goodvibes

From what I have always heard, an adult can order from the child's menu and use an adult TS credit, but that is at the discretion of the server.

The Deluxe DDP is 3 Meals (CS or TS) and 2 snacks per day. What you are referring to is the standard DDP.

Yes, your entire group must be on the DDP.

If she is a picky eater and the DDP works for everyone else in your party, you may want to consider some buffets as there tends to be flavors for everybody at the buffets.

Good luck to you!!!

Oops, yes thanks for the correction! Like your idea about the buffets - we are eating at Boma twice...

Here's another option that you can consider. Pay for her kids' meals OOP and save her credits. If you're wanting more meals than you have credits then this is a great way to extend your credits. You can do this at TS and CS restaurants.

I understand where you're coming from. Now that my youngest is 10 and prefers kids meals most of the time, we've decided not to purchase the DDP. We'll feel the pinch more at fixed price restaurants but at regular restaurants where you order off the menu, it just works out so much better. We're also no longer tied to having to make at least a certain number of ADRs in order to be sure we're using all of our credits. For our upcoming trip, we've got ADRs for 5 TS meals for a 7 night trip and those ADRs are mostly lunch or late breakfast which isn't as good of a financial deal on the DDP but when paying OOP those are GREAT. Once she's developed a more mature pallet I may look at the dining plans again, but right now it just doesn't make sense for us.

have you been to Disney and seen the kids meal selection? it is really lame. every restaurant was the same. the have the pizza with some stuff that goes with it and then a fish/rich dish. the fish may or may not be different at each place. we were not on the dining plan but at CRT we had to order off of the kids menu for my 6 and 7 year old as that is what we had paid for and the girls really hated the food as they are used to eating what we eat. just wanted to make sure you know what is on the kids menu before you go. we were there the week of Dec 5th.

We spent Thanksgiving week at Disney World with my picky 10 year old on the dining plan as an adult. He never once had to order the undesirable kids meal. Let's explain my picky eater - he doesn't eat meat at all (so no chicken nuggets). All of the restaurants were willing to work with us - we just asked nicely before ordering. My 17 year old neice was even able to get the crab cake appetizer at the wave instead of an actual meal. This is what my "picky" 10-year old had each night.

Via Napoli: the adult white cheese pizza (no need for adjustments)
Yak & Yeti: the adult burger (no meat just cheese) and fries
Le Cellier: an adult pasta dish with marinara sauce (didn't see on menu)
Ohana: grilled cheese and fries from Kona
La Hacienda: cheese quesadilla
Kona Cafe: grilled cheese and fries
The Wave: an adult pasta with marinara (didn't see on menu)

Did we get our money's worth? Of course not, but we love the convenience of the dining plan. My son actually enjoyed not having those kids meals, especially at the counter services. If he would have eaten meat, we really would have had even more choices. No need for lectures about my picky eater - my pediatrician is aware!

I also have a picky eater who is 13 so I feel your pain. We have stopped getting the DDP since he became a Disney "adult." It's just not worth our money anymore for this reason plus others. We can save more $ by paying OOP for our meals.
