So we're going early June and are hoping there will be a public room discount released in January for our stay..

We are planning to book in the next few days, and we plan to book a tickets and dining plan as part of it.

If there is a room only discount released.. and we use the discount, will they be able to apply it to our room cost even though it is part of the package? Or will we have to switch to a room only reservation at that point?

Also.. since I'm here.. Just to verify, if we book now (And it's best to book over the phone so we can pay off in full in advance?) are we able to cancel anytime and get the $200 deposit back?

Thanks!!

If the discount is for room only they will have to cancel your original reservation and rebook the room under room only then you have to buy the tickets desperately. New reports are any FP will be held for 24 hours so that you can do this with out loosing your FP but I've never done it so can't guarantee it works.

If you book now you will get your deposit back as long as you aren't with in the paid in full date of the vacation. I'm not sure what the cancellation policy is after that date.

So you should have to worry about anything as long as the discounts come out before the 60 days FP window and 45 paid in full window.

Yes, they can apply it to the room even thought you have a package - that is what we did earlier this year on our package when I got a room only discount pin code.

As long as you cancel before 45 days from your arrival date (and before you have paid your balance in full), you get the deposit back in full.

I've always been able to apply a room only discount to the room portion of a package. Unless they've changed the rules, you should not have to cancel the package and rebook as room only, if you don't want to.

Well now I'm unsure of myself, but for our vacation this past July we had a package with tickets and dining plan, and we were able to apply a room only discount (sometime in April) without cancelling anything..

It is back of house cancelling really. Did your confirmation number stay the same? If your confirmation number changed that means they cancelled the original rebooked everything and reissued stuff. On your end it looks like 0 changed except the confirmation number but on Disney's end everything changed.

Okay.. so after doing a dining calculator.. I looks like it actually might be a bit cheaper to eat oop instead of using the dining plan, so I'm no longer worried about needing the dining plan. Tickets are definitely a bit cheaper at undercover.

Can you still get DME with a room only reservation? Sorry if that's a silly question...

No my confirmation number was the same. And we had the dining plan which isn't available without a package, correct?

Yep you can still use DME. We usually only book room only as we buy our tickets right before the 60 day mark and have always used DME.

I think I may be confused on the "package" versus just a booking that has everything. When I hear "package" I think of the type that give a discount on some part of it. I know for dinning plan you have to have booked your tickets through Disney and at the time of resort booking not separately. They still do something internally to get the room only discount to apply.

A package is just a method of booking where you book your room and tickets and add-ons simultaneously and they are part of the same transaction. Booking can also be done as separate transactions (one for room, one for tickets. I have an annual pass and don't want any add ons like dining plan, so any booking I do is room only.) A room discount generally applies to any manner in which you have booked a room.

If you apply a room discount to a package, the discount is taken off the amount of the room - not the tickets or other add-ons like dining plan.

If you have a package discount like free dining, or stay play and dine, that is on the package itself so you must have a package to use it.

If you already have a package and you want the discount off the room portion, they shouldn't have to cancel it to change it. If you don't have a package but you want a package discount, that has to be cancelled and rebooked. So if you have to fundamentally change the type of booking you have in order to take advantage of a discount, that would result in a cancellation. I don't think that has to be done to discount only the room portion of a package. It's still a package, you are not changing it into a room only reservation.

The discount must be available for the resort and room type you have booked at the time you call to apply it. If it's not available, you can change your resort or room type to get the discount.

Thanks for all the information everyone! Now if only the disney site would actually work and let me book... :P
I'll probably just call later after work. Seems more beneficial to book over the phone anyway.
