question about 3D shows

hi all going to disney for the first time with family -- husband and 4 year old -- what is the best 3D show -- my husband has never been to one -- do u believe it -- i heard there is a bugs life on at AK -- what others are there?? which is a not to be missed?? do u have to get tickets in advace?? what are the price points on them ??? thanks sooo much this message board is the best ive learned so much -- thanks again to all!!!

3D show at every park:

ALL the attractions INSIDE the parks (all the 3D's ARE) are included at no extra charge.
If the shows offer a FAST PASS, take advantage of this (if its crowded).

MGM- "MuppetVison 3D"
DAK- "Its Tough to Be a Bug"
Epcot- "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience"
MK- "Mickey's PhilharMagic"

"Bug" can be very frightening for younger kids (say under 7)
"HIStA" is the oldest of the 4 and it has a few "scary" effects, but not too bad.
"Muppet" is fine for the whole family (don't miss the PRE-SHOW in the waiting area... its hysterical!)

Best for last:
PhilharMagic IS MAGIC! One of the best attractions at Disney!
Donald duck gets "thrown" (literally) into a half-dozen or so classic Disney films.
I'll just say it again... Pure MAGIC!

The 3 D shows are some of my favorites... The Bugs Life is so cute and not to be missed.. You do not need to have tickets ahead of time, they are treated just like any other ride.. You get in line and go in.. Some of them you can get Fastpass for if I remember correctly.... At MK there is Mickeys Philharmagic (saw this one for the first time when I went in September).. At Epcot there is Honey I shrunk the audience.. At MGM Studios there is Jim Hensons Muppet Vision 3D and then at Animal Kingdom there is Its tough to be a bug.. All are great and you might try to include them all in especially if your husband loves 3D shows..

All the 3-D movies are great. There is Mickey's Philharmagic in MK. Muppet Vision in MGM, Tough to be a Bug in AK, and Honey I shrunk the audience in EPCOT. You'll love them all! Your 4 year old may be frightened though at It's tough to be a bug. You don't need a ticket to get in---just line up like all the other rides. Have fun!

Another vote for Mickey's Philharmagic. Muppets 4-D was my favorite until Philharmagic came along.

you can get fastpasses for all of them, but they're usually not needed unless you're they're at a peak time. all attractions in the parks are included with with your admission.

tough to be a bug...we see people carrying screaming kids out of this one every show. the sensory effects freak little kids out.

Well, its only "Outdated" if you've already SEEN it X times.

I know "Wayne" and his family are not exactly the newest characters at Disney (the movies they were in are relatively old) but the show is still fun, if you haven't seen it before.

My husband and I really enjoyed all the 3D shows, but I have to say that my DD9 was really freaked out by HISTA. (small spoiler ahead)



At one point it feels like there are mice running underneath your feet in the pitch dark and she really did NOT like that at all. Now, she is not fond of the dark and probably more nervous about these things than a lot of kids her age (it didn't bother her sister who was 7 at the time nearly as much), but it was one of the first things we did on our vacation and it made her very wary of everything we tried for a couple of days. If your 4yo is easily scared, I'd keep that in mind. Bug's Life was a bit much for her as well, but not as bad. They both enjoyed the Muppets and of course Philharmagic.

You know your child best. if they are easily startled, skip Bug and Honey (but if you split up for an afternoon or don't mind switching off, or get a babysitter one night, don't miss them youselves!). Any 4 year old will be enchanted by Philharmagic and Muppets.

my personal favorite is Mickey's Philharmagic.

i didn't like It's a Bug's Life. i'm deathly afraid of bugs and some of the "simulations" they do in that attraction didn't sit too well with me. plus the stink bug is AWFUL i couldn't get the smell out of my nose all day, i felt sick afterwards.

Muppets is ok, a little outdated, but still enjoyable(and very comical!).

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids isn't really that interesting to me. i used to love the movie when i was younger, but the ride doesn't do anything for me.

The shows are included in the price of park admission.

HISTA and Muppetvision are OK. Don't like either one much.

ITTBAB and Philharmagic are both good. I like ITTBAB more, but with a four year old, you gotta make the call. If the kid is even a little of a scardey-cat, I'd skip it. Two kids loved it, the other - at four years old still my little scardey-cat - was petrified during THE SCENE .

Philharmagic is very warm and fuzzy.

The 3D technology is exactly the SAME in all 4 films.
(Kodak's 3D film process is the same.)
PhilharMagic and ITTBaB are "computer-generated" but the film-projection and 3D "polarized viewing" is the same.

What makes HIStA unique, is that it is supposed to look like a LIVE AWARDS SHOW and not a "movie" at all (no cuts)... as though you where actually sitting in an audience and seeing people and events in "actual human size", in real-time.

"Honey" is actually very well done in that respect (they "hid" the cuts very cleverly).

(ITTBaB, is in the same "real-show" vein, but itsfor that matter.)

If you don't care for the show, its OK with me.

I'm just saying that it was fun when I first saw it, and it can be very surprising to see it "for the first time" for many viewers.

My son was 3.5 on our last visit and his favorite by far was Mickey's Philharmagic at the MK. Next was Muppetvision at MGM. He didn't care at all for Honey I Shrunk the Audience (EC) or Tough To Be A Bug (AK).

You can always hold your 4 yo on your lap if the effects scare him. He won't feel them unless he is seated in his own seat. My 2 yo loved them all!

When you get into any of the shows they give you 3-d glasses to wear. When my son was 3 he wouldn't keep them on hense he didn't "get" the show or the effects. The screen was just slightly blurry. If your son gets scared, like people mentioned put him on your lap or take the glasses off to show him it's not real. If he really doesn't like it don't put the glasses back on! Good luck!

Yeah, probably is that way.
I've tried to block Capt. EO (the previous 3D show at the Imagination pavillion) out of my mind. (A lot of the rest of the country has tried to block Capt. EO's star out of their minds as well, lately.)

If you don't know who the star of Capt. EO was, I'm sure Disney appreciates it.

"Magic Journeys" was the FIRST 3D movie in that same space (but the theater was completely rebuilt for Capt. EO)

Since DIS/MGM Studios were built LONG AFTER Epcot, I kinda forgot the order of the films' debuts.
As other posts have mentioned, HIStA even LOOKS "older".
