Question about 2008DDP and OOP purchases

Okay, this is confusing and I dont know if it has been covered yet, so bare with me! LOL!
Okay, I know that if you are in a party of 6 or more that the 18% gratuity is automatic...correct? Okay, but what if the check needs to be divided up because "some people" want their own check and dont want to fuss with splitting things on our own??
Also, if you are NOT in a party of 6, and you get OOP purchases, I know you will get a seperate check for that, will there be the 18% on it automatically? I mean, there shouldn't be, but I read on here that some people have had that happen.
Now that gratuity is not in the 2008 plan, how do you pay it since if you dont order anything OOP you wouldnt have a check with anything on it.....

I have no idea about the splitting checks, but I think that won't make a difference when it comes to the auto gratuity. Otherwise a lot of groups would just split the tab to avoid the 18%.

As far as the add-ons, I think only time will tell. The brochure says tips "may" be added to items not covered by the plan, but it would be simpler if that were no longer done. I don't expect we'll know for sure until January trippers start reporting back.

I can't help you with parties of 6 or more, but I can tell you for sure that any items you order OOP (adult beverages, etc.) are definitely presented to you in a separate check with the 18% already added - at least that has been my experience with the current DDP . When my single glass of Pinot Grigio alone at Yachtsman came out to $10+ after signing a check on the DDP for $149 + included gratuities....

Of course, that was 2007, Stay tuned!

My guess is that they will at least have to do separate checks for each room. I am going with a party of 10 in a couple weeks, so I will let you know what I discover.

Although I'm sure the server will have no trouble doing seperate checks, the automatic gratuity/service charge will still be charged. Six or more refers to your entire party. It doesn't matter if each check is under 6 or even if part of your party is seated at another table.
