Question about 1900 Park Fare Character Dinner

Hi
We were in DW last August 2007 and 1900 PF was closed for renovation. We were disappointed, since we loved it in Aug 2006. I read on one of the threads about the different stations that they now have, and that the food isn't very good. But I've asked before what specifically they have to eat and haven't had any answers yet. The menu on Allears is not current. I wish Deb would get it updated. I'm sure she will. Maybe someone who has been there really recently will give us an update.

I know. Everybody who's been since the remodel says they don't like the food, but nobody says WHAT they don't like about it? :confused3
I've read every thread I can find, and even started one of my own to see what's wrong with the food, and all I can tell is it seems universal that everyone thinks the prime rib is way too raw. (Disney are you listening?) There are numerous complaints about the food being inedible, but I'm not sure exactly what that means - raw? burnt? tastes nasty? tastes different than expected? stale? something else?

Anybody who's eaten there since it re-opened care to elaborate further for us? Pleeeaaaase post specifics for those of us trying to decide whether to dine there!

We eat dinner there every trip.

In fact, about 10 minutes ago, I just got off the phone with Disney Dining.....made all our ADRs for our summer trip & DD picked that for the night of her b-day! She loves Prince Charming!

Can't wait!

We enjoy both the characters & the food there...never have any complaints!

**Our last dinner was just last month on Christmas Eve. Loved it!!

So are there menu changes or differant items then the menu list on this thread??? Did you notice change before rehab and after???

I'm sorry...but if there were any menu changes (in 2007 we ate dinner there in May, August, & Dec.) I did not notice them. DS & DH always get the prime rib & love it on the rare side. I always get anything that looks good, & I did find plenty. DD finds things that she likes too. I wish I could recall specifically what I got there on Christmas Eve, but I can't. Neither can DD13.

We ate there in December. Both DH and I agreed that the food was subpar.

I don't eat red meat -- and DH did remark how the prime rib looked bloody so he didn't venture there.

We both had the chicken marsala -- GROSS. Sorry -- it was. I can't remember what else was on his plate. I got some kind of noodle thing from the Japan station and it looked good but didn't taste good. Honestly, the only thing on my plate that was decent was the caesar salad. I never made it back for a 2nd trip. The buffet lines were extremely long. I was not that hungry to start with and the characters kept coming so we didn't want to miss anything.

That said, food -- definitely not worth the $130 for the meal -- character interaction - -glad we didn't miss it -- honestly, the best character meal character interaction that we have ever experienced. DD still comments how nice the stepsisters were -- "they're not mean at all"

I'm trying to remember what else was on the buffet -- there were different "country" stations -- Japan, China, Italy, France for sure. I'm recalling a pasta with tomato sauce at the Italy station - which would probably be okay. The salad station was okay too. I never did find the soup station to try the strawberry soup... that said -- again, it was VERY crowded in the lines -- major chaos IMO with guests (not Disney's fault). I was also shepherding 2 kids. I think if it would have been less crowded, I would have seen more food and could have given a better review. That said, the kids buffet lines were perfect for my kids -- pizza, chicken nuggets, mac n cheese, corn and peas.

Dessert tables -- okay but typical buffet desserts.

We did Chef Mickeys and 1900 Park Faire this trip -- I can honestly say that I much more enjoyed the food at the family style character meals (ie Ohana, Liberty Tree) -- but I'll qualify this with -- I am not a big buffet person.

BOTTOM LINE: If you are going for the food -- DON'T -- you will have a better meal elsewhere. If you are going for the character interaction -- DON'T MISS THIS ONE --- absolutely fantastic. I will try to post some pics later of the characters -- DH has done something to the computer and all my pics are gone :confused3

I guess I don't need to worry about it- I just got off the phone with Disney dining and they are booked the night we wanted to go.

Awww that's too bad. If you really wanted to go though, you should keep calling periodically - people cancel their ADRs and space opens up.

I think we got lucky, because we just called a few days ago to make our ADR, for the saturday during spring break (you'd think that was a busy time), but we must have gotten lucky.

We ate there in Jan 06 & May 06 when the mice were there and then again last week. Enjoyed the food more in 06 but the character interaction with the stepsisters was great. It was the favorite character meal of my kids this trip (boy 8 and girl 5). As far as the food my biggest disappointment was that the Cream of Mushroom soup was no longer there.:( I loved that last time! I thought the Prime Rib was great on all the trips. The main thing is I don't think there were as many selections. My kids did eat well though. I will go through the menu below and see what I can remember. I deleted things that are gone for sure, marked red additions, and purple things I don't know if they were there or not:

hmmm....now the menu is what made want to do it.

Starters - spring mixed greens, Caesar Salad, Dressings, Broccoli Salad with cashews, Greek salad, ambrosia, tomato mozzarella salad, macaroni salad, apple with port vinaigrette
Soups - Cream of Asparagus, tomato florentine, and chilled strawberry

Accompaniments - red bliss mashed potato, brown gravy, niblet corn

Entrees - Chef's freshly prepared pasta, roasted prime rib of beef, mojo marinated turkey breast, curry chicken with Israeli couscous, apple chutney stuffed pork loin with apple glaze, , salmon with a dill cream sauce, chicken marsala, , Italian sausage with peppers, chorizo stuffed pork loin with mango barbeque sauce,

Children's Corner - cheese and macaroni, pasta marinara, niblet corn, cheese pizza and fresh vegetables ,baked chicken wings

Desserts - apple cobbler, bread pudding, brownies, key lime tarts, linzer torte, rice krispie treats, chocolate chip cookies, lemon cheesecake tart, Edy's Soft Serve Ice Cream, Chocolate mousse type dessert.

Hope this helps! I would return again since the Stepsisters and Stepmother were a hoot. The food wasn't bad but it used to be better IMO.

Shelprincess:

So, would you consider this to be very "princess-y"? I ask because I have two boys (9 & 11) who have told me that under no circumstances do they want to go to a princess meal.

(It might have to do with the fact that in 2007 we went to DL and met all the girl cousins at Ariel's Grotto and it was all princess, all the time....:confused3 and the princesses all wanted a photo with my boys and they were mortified with embarrassment through out the entire meal. They couldn't stand the attention - but how was I to know that would happen?)

It's not like the step-sisters are princesses? right? I want to get some girly stuff in for me.... What do you think? Would this place work?

Two years ago we went with just my son who was 6 at the time. He loved it. He kind of likes the attention from the princesses though! ;) The trip last week was my son who is now 8 and daughter (princess fanatic) who is 5. They both loved the meal. Cinderella does visit your table for autographs and pictures as well as Prince Charming. The Stepmother and Stepsisters also visit the table. They however are very rude and funny. My son thought it was hilarious! They also walk around the restaurant being obnoxious doing things like sticking their tongues out at the kids as they pass etc. IMO most boys love rude, obnoxious behavior! ;) My kids loved it! They had my husband and me laughing pretty good too! This meal is much, much less princessy than the breakfast at Norway was. That was all princesses. The 1900 meal seems more focused on fun and the decor of the restaurant isn't princessy at all. HTH!

We dined at 1900 Park Faire back in October 2006 and this is the only meal that DD6 has asked to do again on our short trip coming up in May. I really want to go back, because we enjoyed the food and would love to meet the new characters they have now. :hippie:

Thank you so much ShelsGoingToDisney and tink, too. I think we will try to do this one! I think the boys would like this one, especially that rude behavior is actually OK, for once. :rotfl: Plus, we have to see Cindy, I mean, we are at WDW!
