How did you go about doing it?
I'm interested in renting some points for an OKW Studio (Already found someone who offered me the dates I want)
Now I just don't know how to go about it.
I'm an incredibly nervous person so I'll let my brother handle all the fine print and details, just wondering how YOU have gone about getting the ressie into your name.
Paid first, through an escrow service- what?

TIA :goodvibes

I am in the process of renting points right now. So, I am not an expert, but I'll tell you what I 'think' I know:

You find a person who will rent you points-- at the resort you want-for the week you want.

The person you buy the points from must make the reservation in your name, you cannot make the reservation yourself.

Payment arrangements are made with the owner: possibly 20% down and the balance due at a later time (all depending on how soon you are going) You two work out the details of payment.

The owner can send you a contract detailing your agreement, that you both sign. You should get a copy.

The owner will recieve a confirmation letter from the resort, they need to provide you a copy of it. You will need that confirmation letter to check in.

It does take a leap of faith on both sides. On yours -that the reservation will be made and kept, on theirs- that you will pay.

Find someone that you feel 'comfortable' with.
For me, I ended up more comfortable with the 2nd person I talked to and I went with her.

Good Luck

She already has the reservation, and I'm comfortable with her. She isn't pushing me- which I take to be a great sign :)

So basically the name on the reservation just gets changed from her to me..

Thanks for your help, though. Just still very confused :)

It is unsettleing at first. I've rented four times from two different owners. I didn't sign a contract either time, although I would have if the owner wanted it. One owner I paid half when I got the reservation confirmation and the other half about six week out. The other owner I paid the full amount up front. (both times about seven months out) I call MS a couple time to confirm my reservation. I was somewhat nervous, but I did have the member's name, home address, and work address and phone. I don't mind paying the full amount up front because I feel a member is giving me a good deal. Since this is not the right time for me to join, I do appreciate being able to stay at DVC.

JS, thanks for the quick reply...

Both times, did the member just use his points to make you reservation?

This reservation is already made..

Some have existing reservations that they are trying to sell. In some cases that is because they couldn't use them themselves, or they prefer to sell existing reservations to cut down on phone calls to DVC member services. The owner of the points will have their own payment options and hopefully will have a contract for you spelling out all the details of what is expected for payments etc. When you pay, you will be given the reservation sheet with your name on it. IF you don't get that, please get in touch with the member to give it to you, or at least a copy of it. You will need this when checking in if you are not a member yourself.

We've rented 3 times, and also helped a friend rent. We found people on the trade/rent board. It was much easier to contact those offering points than to post what we wanted (mods - can we split these boards? The points wanted seems to get buried).

We paid the full amount up front, and the renting member put our info on the res and sent us the confirmation.

One of those 3 is coming up in December (we are members now, but needed extra points!), but the others all went without a hitch.

We rented from Ebay. But watch out renting might get you hooked. I did and now own at BWV and love it.

I have just rented from a DVC member while I was waiting for my contract to go through to become a owner at VWL. I paid her through Paypal with a credit card upfront, she put the ressie in my name with her points and I have already received the confirmation for the VWL. She has added me to the DDP and we are really excited about this. Using the credit card gave me some comfort because I knew if the deal went bad I could go through the credit card company. Paypal also will help collect a bad debt, so I had two collection recourses. Hope this helps you some.

We have rented and yes, we were abit nervous. I found the person on the rent/trade board....I was looking for someone with many posts etc. It all worked out well :) She requested half when I got the reservation confirmation and the other half about six week out. I did pay full upfront. I did have her address, telephone # etc.

Good Luck

Angela
