Ques for December Visit for 1st Timers?

We are planning a trip for the beginning of December. We have never been to Universal, but want to spend a couple of days there. Is is worth staying on site to get the FOTL privilege at that time of year? Will you need it then? I'm getting quotes of 200 per night for RPR and that seemed a little high. Is it also true that you have to pay for parking at the hotel? Sorry for all of the questions!! I'm doing the planning for 2 families and trying to get all the info straight is making me crazy Any help would be appreciated!

Your planned time of year is supposed to be the slowest time for Orlando. Do you need to stay on-site? Not really but the hotel express will be appreciated by your entire party. You should be able to get a room at RPR for less than $150. I just stayed for $120 using APH rates. Hotel parking is $6 per day.
With hotel keys as express you can do IOA in a day and USO in another. You can do them both without staying on-site but it requires a little extra planning and a commitment to getting to the parks before they open.

We went there the first week of December this past year,, and even tho we had FOTL because we stayed on site, (aph discount waterview at RPR for $109.00 a night,, oh yeah baby!), we only needed it for certain rides, due to the low crowds. It's the most amazing thing to walk thru IOA, and only see handfuls of people here and there

The weather was great, not cold or too hot. Early December and the month of January are wonderful times to go.

I'll be going to WW/US/IOA with my 8-year-old daughter (actually its her 8th birthday celebration trip), from Nov. 12 to 21, and was wondering what crowds and lines are like in the parks at this time.

We also got a rate of 209 a night. They didn't even offer AAA with a standard room. We are hoping to find some kind of discount.

I would definitely do it. You never know how busy it will be so with FOTL you will have no worries.
