Queen Elizabeth funeral and looking forward

For the love of God not again with all those stairs those poor guys they deserve a beer after this. Are the Pallbearers always the same today

Deep breath… keep an eye on the person at the rear.. he is there to support the coffin on the inclines.. one gloved hand to steady it..

Same pall bearers as at the Abbey earlier

I do not know all the approporiate terminology so forgive me but it sort of struck me how choppy the chapel is. I guess it makes sense since it was originally built several hundred years ago and htey keep adding on in a somewhat haphazard fashion but it strikes me how separated the royal and choir stalls are from the rest of the congregation. I'm not sure many of the dignitaries can see much of anything at all.

I think Savanah is between her dad and Meghan at the service.
ETA - yes it’s now reported that both Peter’s girls are there.

That’s the same in all High Anglican Churches and Cathedrals. The area the choir sits in is generally referred to as the quire.

Children always attended such things in my family. I was 11 when my uncle passed and we attended the viewing and everything else.

In that respect, I totally get George and Charlotte going to a family funeral.....but this is not a family funeral. I suppose if it were me I might have kept them home from the state funeral and maybe had them at the private burial service at Windsor which I think is to be more private. Fewer cameras and crowds and such. But I imagine the new Prince and Princess of Wales know their children better than any of us and can make the best decision for all involved.
Our children always attended family funerals too.

I understand on two levels why Prince George and Princess Charlotte are present. One it's their great grandmother and two they are already preparing for their future in the monarchy.

''BTW ..both are perfection. I know The Queen was happy to know the succession is secure for three.generations.

Same in the Catholics Churches and Catherals.

Everyone grieves in their own way, of course. But I remember when my grandmother passed there was the viewing one day, and then the funeral the next day, and then later that day the graveside service for burial, and then the luncheon and every time there was a new event it's like it opened everything up and I was starting my grief over from scratch. I remember thinking I couldn't wait for it to be done and over with.

And that was 2 days not 10 with all the pomp and ceremony the poor royal family has had to deal with. I imagine they are all just completely done in and are planning to eat junk food in their jammies tonight and sleep in tomorrow.

St. George’s Chapel like Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Cathedral (and many older Anglican churches) are gothic style buildings built in the shape of the cross. The sectioning of the church go back to a time when there were distinctions in classes amoung the parishioners.
With the more common folk sitting in the nave and the upper class and gentrified sitting nearer the alter.. the choir almost always flanks the centre aisle.

I’m having flashbacks from Phillips funeral service where the Queen sat by herself. I wonder how they would’ve done all this had Covid restrictions still been a thing
