Queen Beds at AoA

We are scheduled for a trip in mid-November 2020 for my daughter's birthday trip, and currently staying at POP. My daughter has always wanted to stay at AoA, and since it is her birthday I would love to make this happen. What are the chances if I switch to AoA that we might get a Little Mermaid room with the two queen beds? We are a family of four, with one very tall husband, so staying in doubles is just not going to cut it.

No chance. If you want a queen at AoA, you need to book a family suite. That certainly would be more comfortable for your family, but they cost more, of course, but there are no Little Mermaid-themed family suites. How about Nemo, Lion King or Cars?

Update: after Eyore's comment, did a search and found a story from Feb. that they are putting queens in the Mermaid rooms, so there is a chance of getting one.

I believe the Little Mermaid rooms were being updated with queen beds but I’m not up to date on their progress.

It's tougher too since there's no LM preferred. I stayed at ASMo at the end of 2018 when maybe just a building or two were renovated and opted to pay for a preferred room to be able to request one of those buildings. With LM, there's a small chance of getting a room with the queen beds. But I definitely agree - if you want to ensure you get queen beds, opt for the suites. Though they're more money, it's guaranteed and it's a lot more spacious. We stayed at the Cars suite and the theming and whole layout is amazing! The pictures I've seen of LM rooms with queen beds look a bit cramped to me.

Pre- or post-renovation? Because the Value rooms are identical in size and dimensions.
The only LM rooms with queen beds are post-renovation. The LM rooms at AoA are bigger than the rooms at Pop and the All-Stars (277 SF vs. 260 SF), but could seem more cramped because the second bed is not a Murphy bed. When the Murphy bed is up at Pop, for instance, the room seems more spacious.

They are renovating the LM rooms to include queens, but as of right now there are only a few rooms done in building 8 and I'm not sure when they'll resume with the refurbishments. If you book there, it's highly unlikely you will get one of the handful of rooms with a queen.

How are they larger? Weren't the Little Mermaid buildings erected in the existing foundstions?

AoA was completed several years after the All Stars and Pop, so while they may have kept the foundation, they may have aligned the walls differently.
I don't see how, though. Unless you mean literally thinner? Because each Little Mermaid building has the same 288 rooms as any Pop building :confused3

Could be thinner, could be they left out some mechanical areas the other buildings have. The square footage is widely reported as 277, so the got extra space from somewhere.

Yes, this article is what I saw also, so I was hoping the renovations had expanded to include more rooms at AoA. I think we may have to opt for the suites because there are so few renovated LM rooms. Thanks for the help!

Thanks all for your input! It seems there is not a ton of info on the exact number of renovated rooms, so I will be going with a suite or sticking with Pop.

When I was at Pop in January, they were working hard on the building farthest from the lobby (sorry, don’t know building numbers). But I have been at Pop the last two days and have not seen any work going on as I rode the Skyliner. The building they were working on in January doesn’t have any paperwork in the windows like they usually do when they are under construction. There’s no supplies staged in the parking lot either, like there was In January. Are they doing anything to the rooms other than putting in larger beds? If not, it may not take as long to complete as a full, gut it to the wall, renovation.

Perhaps this is also why they opted for two actual queen beds instead of a queen and a queen murphy bed 🤷‍♀️ Maybe the thinner LM walls can't support murphy beds.

They're taking out the carpeting also and putting in new flooring.
