Pea-n-me Glad you had a nice trip and had some time to relax. Happy Belated birthday to you and your DH. Beignets are so yummy. We always got some when we stayed at POFQ. Great pics. How are the doggies doing?

I have checked in for my flight and have my boarding pass all set. I will be offline while away as I try to unplug and enjoy the Disney bubble. I have my kindle for reading and my phone but that is it. Have a great rest of the week and weekend.

Have a great trip!

Hi everyone, hope all is well with each of you. I'm afraid I've fallen a bit behind and haven't caught up w/ this thread.

Pea - nice to see you are doing well & had a good trip.

What resort did you stay at? I just rented points for a studio at Poly for Feb. (we like to go in late Jan or early Feb for a quick winter getaway). Haven't yet stayed at Poly, so looking forward to trying it. We usually only plan this trip a few months ahead of time so I always seem to miss out on points availability for Poly or GF so I was very happy to snag the Poly points!

Not much is going on with us. Busy - which is good. Baby doing well, hard to believe she's 2 months old! We are headed off to Scotland in a few days for almost 2 weeks. I've not yet packed, might start on that this evening. I won't really pack until the night before of the morning we leave but I should at least start putting a few things together. I'm trying to pack light - we will see how that turns out haha!! Eldest & his son are staying at our house to stay with our big dog (who can't be boarded) and we are boarding the other two for part of the time (so they get used to being boarded - my niece & son won't always be able to dog sit so I want the pups to be used to the situation. Luckily we found a GREAT facility that pampers the dogs and we feel very good about. Cost a arm & a leg but it's worth it for us) I've never been away from the office for this long, so I'm starting to freak out a bit - but we've hired great people to hold down the fort while we are gone and I've just got to let go of the reins a bit.

Sounds like a few folks have travel plans, including some to WDW. Have fun everyone! I can't believe how fast this summer has gone, and honestly the next 6 months will be a blur for us - it will be April before we come up for a breath. That's okay. Lynn, did I pick up that you are headed back to Hawaii? And Snowy- you are off to WDW soon? Have fun both of you! I'm jazzed to have gotten n/s PHL to EDI this week and on our return.

Back to work for me - take care everyone.
Yes, heading back to the islands. I'm addicted. Leaving next Thursday for 2 weeks.

Have a great trip to Scotland, it's on my bucket list!

Cool! We stayed at OKW (after our first night at CR). It was lovely, and nice and quiet. We all loved the chill vibe. Last time we stayed there we had a studio. We had two 1BR units this time near each other. So much space, we loved that! We’d booked it as a bounce back from last January so the price was very good, between that and value season.

We were over at the Poly twice this trip. When we stayed there years ago it was also nice and quiet and cozy, but the last few times we’ve been over there it seems crazy with loads of people everywhere. The CR was the same way, like Grand Central Station. Plus the monorail was down both times, and we had to grab a boat to get back to our CR room in time to watch the fireworks! (I think if you look toward the end of the MNSSHP thread someone else talks about it taking two hours to get back to GF on the monorail after the party due to problems with it around the same time.) We were very happy to get over to the quiet of OKW the second day!

Why can’t your one dog go in the kennel, just out of curiosity?

The dogs were kenneled for ten days! 😭 (We have to bring them the day before and pick them up the day after, timewise.) We missed them so much! DS’s dog was with them, too. But they all did just fine. We gave them baths yesterday and let them decompress and rest. Today they’re back to their normal selves, tho a little clingy. Thanks for asking! And have a wonderful trip! Can’t wait to hear about it! Same with you, Lynn!

Good early morning and Happy Wednesday thread save. I am praying gor great news today. I am also looking forward to seeing my friend W, a former resident, when he comes to visit this morning. Have a blessed day dear friends. I will check back in later.

Good cloudy morning. After saying it would rain all day, now there's just a slight chance of showers before 11. Not doing anything at the moment. It's 59 outside going to 73. One more day near 90 on Friday and then temps start dropping again.

Heading out to do errands early while none of the stores are busy.

Have a good day.

Well, for a few reasons.

#1 he's calm, cool and chill on the farm. Take him out of that atmosphere and he becomes so anxious and nervous he is almost to hard to control. I once watched him drag a vet tech thru the door after we came to get him from a grooming session at the vet!

#2 he's older, and he likes the comfort of home (ahem, and having a king size bed to himself) plus he has cancer, which isn't bothering him now but I don't want to exacerbate it by causing him mental anguish.

#3 my son & daughter in law will be staying with him. He knows them & they know his picadillo's and language.

#4 He's BIG. And he needs his space, he doesn't fit in a crate and has full run of the house & yard so putting a 8 year old 175 lb great dane in the clink when he's not used to it would make me feel terrible.

#5 It's my fault - we always were able to have one of the kids or my niece come to house when we traveled so we never got him used to being in the kennel - that's why I kennel the other two now even though someone will be at the house, I know they need to get used to it. And that we need to develop a relationship with a kennel situation that we are comfortable with and has the situation we want for our pups.

#6 I spoil him and want to keep him happy and comfortable cause I know he'll be feeling okay and good until one day he won't, and between you & me I suspect that day may be coming in the next 6-12 months.

#7 Selfishly, we couldn't enjoy our vacation knowing he's in a strange-to-him place, even though I know the gals there would love all over him. The other two have been to the kennel a few times now and are well adjusted to it and aren't stressed out by it thankfully!

#8 Did I mention I've spoiled him in his older age????

Aww, love that! So sweet! :lovestruc I love dog people, and you are definitely one!

We tried one time using DS and a pet sitter at home when we went away but Toto got very anxious and peed in the living room. Came home to a funny smell and figured it out. Can’t have that. I hate having them in the kennel, it’s so loud in there between the boarders and the day care dogs. I think their heads are buzzing with quiet since they got home.

Was just wondering. We may do pet sitting for needy or infirm pets in retirement.

I went to see the new Downton Abbey movie yesterday afternoon and really enjoyed it! I recommend it if you were a fan of the TV series.

DH and I finished a puzzle last night that was a collage of old soda bottle caps. - I'd love to hear the story behind some of them! Today I plan to do some fall decorating and run a couple of errands.

I've signed up to work on a Habit for Humanity house next week. I've done it before, but not since college, so I'm excited but also a little nervous.

Good morning Chilly day here, only supposed to be mid 60's. I'm happy with that as I need to do a ton of baking today to use up the zucchini I have.

My dad should be home Friday depending on if his Covid test is negative. He caught it last week but the rehab has been on top of it. They had one patient test positive and they started daily testing of all the patients. Dad just had a mild sore throat so not that bad.

Planning an anniversary party for my parents behind my mom's back. Dad wants one she doesn't. They will be married 70 years in october so I think they deserve recognition of that especially with all they have been through the last couple of years. the church is helping with this.

I leave for Disney in less than a week and of course I have no time to rest and Iam stressed. Plumber is coming out tomorrow to fix the main shut off valve for the water. It has been dripping and my husband won't know how to deal with it if it gets worse but of course with my luck something will be majorly wrong. The driveway is being replaced the day before I leave so that is also another stressor, Last night I broke a small piece of a molar from grinding my teeth in my sleep so much. I don't have a dentist or insurance so one more thing to figure out as I am terrified of the dentist, always have been since I was a child. My brothers all got great teeth, mine were destroyed by tetracycline when I was a baby.

Ella's car broke down the other day while she was on the highway. Thankfully she has a good head on her shoulders and pulled over right away and called me. The car needed to be towed but thankfully the repair was covered under warranty. She had to have all the ignition coils replaced and one was defective. Mikey got his permit and my daughter took him out to the mall parking lot to practice in a basically abandoned section. Mikey panicked and crashed into a wall. Cracked the bumper on his dad's new car and was terrified that my SIL was going to be angry. Thankfully he told Mikey to walk through a wall, which of course is impossible. Mikey just looked at him and then my SIL gave him some driving advice. Mikey does plan to save up to pay for the repairs. I am proud of him for taking that responsibility and saying that immediately. The turn signal broke too and I offered to lend him the money for that but he refused it. He said I am a man and I need to be responsible like a man. I'm still trying to get him to accept that the loan is just that and he will pay me back so it can be repaired immediately since it is a safety issue,

I read the snake story with some amusement. I am not a fan of snakes. My brother had one when we were kids and he used to chase me with it then Herman escaped. I found him in my cat's mouth. Somehow Herman survived. My dad also liked to go snaking and bring them home to show them to us before he released them, I wasn't a fan. One trip to Disney I dropped my lens cap by my ECV. I left it there and figured I'd get it when I was off the Tower of Terror. As I reached for it the cap moved. A small black, orange ring snake was hiding under the cap. One of my brothers also had a pet python til my parents made him donate it to the zoo. Dad was OK with garters and Dekays not giant pythons.

I'm another one who doesn't use kennels. I did years ago and my dog was so freaked out that we hired a pet sitter. She never showed up over the weekend. Now we take Chewie to my son's house if we are both going away. She likes it there but now that she is so old I think we will put off joint vacations as much as we can or get one of my grandkids to stay at my house with her. The cats are fine here as long as someone stops by to make sure they have clean water and their feeder is full.

Not much else going on around here. Already mostly packed for Disney, I'm going with a friend I met here on the boards years ago. We have become very good friends over the years. Her flight lands almost the same time as mine does, she's from Indiana, and it turns out both our flights home are at almost the same time so we will probably be on Mears at the same time. We are doing MNSSHP, I wanted to, and she was fine with it. Beyond that we have very few plans. I do need to text a mutual friend and see if we can still meet up over the week.

Hope you all have a good day

When my DD came with us to Disney in 2024 (Easter) we had 2 friends coming 3 times a day for our 3 'old' cats and 1 old dog. One came am and pm after work. The other came for the noon time release for my little dog. Meanwhile a couple of boxes of pee pad were available.

Fast forward to yesterday. I'm pretty used to the dog peeing - there is always a bunch of pads down - and he sometimes misses. he also hates the rain or wet grass so I often have to clean my deck. He's 15 in October. He is restricted to the kitchen only and the deck and yard for this reason. I'm constantly mopping my kitchen and deodorizing it.

One cat wears a diaper. Problem solved. Other two cats have been great. There are litter boxes on each level and I keep them scooped.

But, yesterday, 17 year old cat must have been unhappy with my choice of new runner for my entry way or he wanted to know if it was really a 'washable rug'. I had rolled it out and within the hour he squatted on it, and deposited about a half cup of pee. (No kidding - he's big and drinks all day long.)

Sopped it up and put said new washable rug in the washer. These are really thin, but no liquid seeped through - the back was dry. Oh, I also sprayed the Chlorox urine remover all over it. After washing hung it to dry in the basement. It's dry now and I can't smell anything. I'm still reluctant to lay it back out - I think I may order new. I don't want a 'smell' to meet anyone coming to my house.

In addition Chloroxed the floor and mopped it 3 times, using clear water to start and end. I'm used to dry floors. Anyway, I stand by the Chlorox urine remover - I think it's the best and is not expensive.

Oh man, the ability to be able to go away & travel (both my husband and I travel for work, and we try to do it at different times but sometimes it's together) and know your beloveds are happy and being cared for and not stressed is worth it's weight in gold.
You are a great pet Mom!
Thanks:) I try. My big guy is sensitive and (probably) my last big guy so I'm a little over protective of him probably!
