Quarantine and chill and kindness chatty clubhouse: Jump in and join the conversation! All is welcome!

:grouphug:AuntieMe3, so good to see you, my friend. A beach weekend celebration sounds lovely. Yikes to the crazy party! So glad you were safely home! Much continued prayer and love on your Mom. Her celebration of life indeed should be lovely. I pray it brings you much comfort!

:grouphug: to you as well, Taz Dev. One of my favorite songs is "Hands" by Jewel because she sings "In the end only kindness is all that matters." How we treat our children (and each other), choose to live our lives truly makes such a difference. You make a difference🌷

Glad to see more of you posting again..that shows that some of you have been lurking/reading and not posting, lol! Gotcha!
Ok..I quit for the day. I just mowed the whole lawn, weedwacked everything but the bank. Its 77 and sunny with a nice breeze, but the cicada's are getting annoyingly LOUD! Glad we are getting take out pizza for dinner, cause I have had it. Off to take a quick shower and change into some 'not sweaty' clothes, lol

Its 77 and sunny with a nice breeze

That's good to hear, I'm ready to get out of the office and spend a bit of time outside in the fresh air!

My brain hurts. I don't, and have never been able to to understand math and consequently - computers - very well. My brain just does not do math. Anyway, had a meeting with the computer folks putting together our new website. They dumbed it down as much as they could for me haha! I still didn't get it all. I hope I can handle putting plans & specs on there when the time comes. argh

Still, despite my Luddite tendencies I managed to get a fair bit done today, dealt w/ some work comp issues, the new website, made it to the UPS store, and took care of a few other items, so at least I accomplished something. I'll be on the road a majority of Thursday. The weather for this upcoming weekend isn't exactly looking to great for Memorial Day weekend...still, it won't keep me from planting the trees and I am really looking forward to seeing what they look like in the ground.

Dinner this evening will be a large venison roast I marinated overnight, seared on the grill this AM over coffee, and then put in crock pot to do it's think today. I suppose I'll need to cook that turkey breast tomorrow once it is completely thawed. Not sure how to approach that - crock pot? Oven while I'm at the office? I'll think of something, I'm not going to sweat it to much.

Just an update on my ebay non receipt of item case

I'm about to unleash hell on Burgess....two months ago I placed a order they told me would be shipped in 2 weeks. 1 month ago they charged my credit card- care to guess what I DON'T have yet? That's right , my order!

our trip Thursday.

Have fun, hope you have a great time!

She earned a full scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania: books, tuition and room and board, after following the advice I just gave Crystal. That made her feel so much better.

Excellent advice!
My niece is headed into 12th grade and going pre vet, too. DE, MD, Penn & VA Tech on her list. No back up incase she gets thru first 4 years but not accepted to vet school, and no intention of going to CC for the first year or two to knock those perquisites out of the way. I've shared my opinion on that w/ my brother. Not My Kid but dang I hate to see them saddled with all that debt with no plan.

hen the city we were in ended up being put on local emergency and lock down after a social media party go out of control

Saw that on the news! Glad you were able to stay above the fray and still enjoy your trip.

Things here are pretty much the same. We did see older DS and the 2 DGS on Sunday. Those 2 boys are the wild children. LOL! The younger one can scream whenever he doesn't get what he wants and boy is he loud! Older DGS loves to listen to kids music and watch kid music videos. He does not like to hear no. We went out with them while they rode their big wheels around the neighborhood. They do listen to Daddy about safety issues so that is good. I love them dearly but I was ready for a break. We will be having a sleep over with them at our house in July. I am not sure how that will go! :rolleyes1

I am very unmotivated lately. I told DH that I don't want to be responsible any more. I am done. I have been responsible since I was about 12. That is a long, long time! I keep threatening to not cook some week and he says that we can get food out. I want him to say he'll cook! Work has been a hassle since I got back from vacation. Retirement is years away. I am tired of cleaning the house and making appointments for various things. I have a dentist appointment next month and I do not like going at all. I feel like I am going to see a used car salesman. He always wants to sell me something. He is good technically which is why I still go to him. Oh well, time to chill a bit. I am going to heat up burritos for supper along with salad. Not too time consuming. Thanks for listening to my vent!

Have a nice Tuesday Evening.

Hello everyone,
Spent most of the day working on my sister's estate. She had quite a few credit cards :guilty:,and I am amazed at how difficult it is to pay them off. It's almost as if they want your first born. People, I'm trying to give you money!!

I am having so much pain since my knee surgery, I'm getting worried it won't get much better.

DD is going out of town for a wedding this weekend, so we get to sit the 2 granddogs, 3 dogs in the house can be a lot but we do love them all. Our other DD and two Gdd's will also be visiting. One is almost 3 and the other one is 2 months. Full house, but it will be so fun!

The meeting at the office amounted to nothing. We had asked the agent to see if the buyer is still interested. He is but wants us to owner finance/ lease to own, with 10% down for 5 years. That is a hard no. We might consider 1-2 years with 20% down. We would rather sell outright.

When I have a heavier book to read for a study, I read that in the day time and have a fluffier book at night.

we were safe watching all the craziness from our balcony but it was wild.
That does sound crazy. Glad you were safe.

it won't keep me from planting the trees
Beware of the cicadas, but it doesn't sound you have them. We have buried the ashes of each of our dogs in the backyard and planted a tree over them. There are a maple and 3 dogwoods. We want to get another maple and put it over the two goldens buried together. Their ashes are still in the basement. Thought about doing it this spring but decided to wait until after the cicadas because of the damage they can do to delicate trees.

Also happy to see more friends posting today! I’m attaching a picture of Evergreen from this afternoon. Not quite as hot as yesterday but absolutely lovely!

I hope you enjoyed your pizza, Lynn.

Hug, Easyas, math can be not fun at times that’s for sure! Computers, I am good at my daily basics and that’s about it. That is awful that after 3 months you still have not received your order especially since they already charged you! I really don’t like that. Amazon and Walmart at least don’t charge until the item has shipped which is how it always should be with any online site. I’ve said this before, but looking back, I wish I had gone to CC first before university! Doing so would have made a ton more financial and really life sense because I did not have a true major or career goal in mind when I first started college. I also had no clue that there were that many GE courses that everyone had to take anyway.

Hug to you as well, Snowysmom. I hope your dentist appointment will go well. I had one dentist experience where I felt as though he was used car salesman (great but sad that it was needed) description. This was many years ago when I was much younger. I remember after my cleaning him immediately jumping in with smooth and fast talking (out of the blue) about how I should have xyz done and I could go into modeling if I did. Yikes! No thank you. Kiddos can be loud alright especially when not happy. I hope your DH will step up and help around the house more. On a more upbeat note, I loved my big wheel as a kid.

Much healing prayer to you, DazedX3. Dogs are good comforters so hope your additional canine company this weekend will bring you extra cheer.

Carol, what color shirts are you wearing at church? That will help me try to spot you. I did look but wasn't sure. Thanks :) ETA: you posted just ahead of me, that I hope you will be able to sell outright.

Wishing all of you friends a good evening.

I made it halfway through Idol finale before going to bed, woke at 10:45 and turned the tv on just in time to see Chayce win it! Hooray! He was my pick from the audition to the finale, even though 'growly voices' don't usually do it for me. All 3 of them should end up with recording contracts, their voices are amazing!
I haven't kept up with American Idol since our hometown boy left but I'm glad Chayce won. I really liked him, liked all three in fact. I would have been happy for any of them to win.

QOTD: Have any of you been having dreams lately that you remember in the morning?
Sometimes when I dream, I wake up to go to the bathroom and then when I go back to sleep my dream picks up right where it left off. So I guess you can say I remember them in the morning. Weird!

Then last night we watched The Woman in the Window on Netflix; not a good choice for nightmares.
The book was a book club pick last year. Maybe I should see the movie and compare it to the book. I didn't think the book was scary at all.

Noone else has anything else to say this morning??
I tend to check in in the evening, I have time to sit down and really concentrate on what I'm doing then.

I just can't compete with Lynn's cleaning habits. :rotfl:
She amazes me with her energy and drive!

I definitely do too! (I call them “downstairs books and upstairs books”.) I often read heavier non-fiction stuff during the day, and light fiction at bedtime.

When DS was younger and I was driving him to after-school activities, I also always had a “car book” for waiting.
I read one book at a time, don't count my Bible. And don't read anything heavy. I always have a book with me when I go to the doctor, dentist, trips, long car rides, etc. You never know when something may take longer than you thought.

Thanks flyingdumbo. I grew up with criticism and saw how my brother treated his kids, they are the same age as my kids. He forced them to major in what he wanted or he refused to pay their tuition. I told my kids not everyone should go to college and the world needs ditch diggers as much as they need rocket scientists. Life is to short to spend it in something that makes you miserable. And now as I write this I don't think I should be upset with my son for quitting his job. He hated working there the last couple years, so much that he told his son that he would disown him for following that career path. He wouldn't of course, but he didn't want Jay going that route. He is going to school to be a truck driver and probably will be much happier. My son was a Corrections Officer and he saw the inmates having more and more rights and those that were there to work being treated like they were the bad guys. It was taking it's toll on him. He said he hasn't had a migraine since he "retired" a month ago.

Thankfully I never voiced how I initially felt to my son. I think this helped me open my eyes a bit.
I've always told my kids to do whatever job/career makes them happy, just whatever career path they chose, do it to the best of their ability. I didn't care whether they were a lawyer or a trash collector. You want your children to succeed and have a better life than you but not at the expense of their happiness.

A friend of ours daughter didn't make the cut to vet school here so they sent her to one somewhere in the Caribbean. She's happily now a practicing veterinarian in California.

Things here are pretty much the same. We did see older DS and the 2 DGS on Sunday. Those 2 boys are the wild children.
Your GKs sound like mine as far as the screaming go. Lil Joe has been pushing me a lot today. Once he started screaming because he wasn't getting his way he was sent to bed. Both GKs ended up taking a nap.
I hear you! I'm getting tired of doing the company office work but I'll hang in there until DH is ready to retire or age 70 which ever comes first. I do get tired of making all appointments, cooking most of the time and being the one to plan all the trips. I'd love for DH to whisk me away somewhere as a surprise but he isn't wired that way.
I have a dentist appointment next month and I do not like going at all. I feel like I am going to see a used car salesman. He always wants to sell me something. He is good technically which is why I still go to him.
Last year my dentist, for the first time ever, asked me if I would like to straighten my lower teeth. Not that they are all crooked, only one tooth overlaps another in the front slightly. And then he asked if I would like to have the gap between my two front teeth removed. I've lived with it since they came in (that's when it should have been done) and I'm not going to change things now. I really like him and kindly told him no but was surprised to have him ask. I've been going to him for over 20 years and he has never mentioned these things before. I do know that when he retires in the next couple of years I am going to find a dentist closer to home. He is about 30 - 35 minutes away and there are good dentists not 10 minutes away.

I am having so much pain since my knee surgery, I'm getting worried it won't get much better.
Not to scare you but a member of my book club had a knee replacement and got an infection in it. After a couple of months of pain she went to her doctor who did it and he told her it was just a matter of getting used to it. She got a second opinion and that doctor told her she had an infection but would not take care of it, she had to have her original doctor do it. So she went back to her doctor but he wouldn't listen. Then she went to a third doctor who confirmed what the second doctor said and he took care of it. She is fine now. I would go back to your doctor to have it checked out, wouldn't hurt.

I'm adding myself to the group with package delivery woes. I have an order that seems to be in the process of moving from one destination to another but not to me. It's something I want to try out and will more than likely return it but it just seems to be wandering around, I can see it on the tracking website.

Woke up to sunny skies and then the rain moved in. Back to sunny skies late this afternoon. Our yard is saturated, water is standing everywhere. The kids are loving running through the grass and splashing water everywhere.

Made my daily bank run and got to the mailbox just in time to hand over bills/invoices to the postman.

Dinner tonight was supposed to be a new recipe for beef enchiladas but at the last minute I changed to spaghetti, mixed vegetables and rolls.

Carol, what color shirts are you wearing at church?
I had on a red and white striped shirt and red mask. DH had a red shirt and black mask. We were right on the aisle behind a larger man in a black jacket.

I always have a book with me when I go to the doctor, dentist, trips, long car rides, etc.
I do too.

For dinner, we had cookout (DH hamburger, me hot dog), deviled eggs, I made a potato packet to cook on the grill for DH and I made myself a salad. I also baked cupcakes to take this weekend for DD's birthday while we are away. DH wrapped her gift and I put the ribbon on it and got the card ready.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS!!!!! I drank extra water, went to bed early and even brought a clock outside to my patio bed...BUT NO!!!!! The sunniest place on earth has CLOUD COVER this night.... no singing birds, no visual treat that only DISNEYLAND graveyard workers can capture (sleeping beauty was a Jeopardy question).....enough to make your BLOOD BOIL....one can go looney with this type of spectacles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning all. It's a sticky feeling 67 out already..going near 90. Hoping to get grocery shopping and errands done early enough that it won't be too hot. Cicada's are quiet so far this morning, but the birds are making a racket, feasting on the cicada's I hope!

@chicapin parterre--sorry your patio bedtime wasn't what you expected, but your post made me laugh first thing this morning, so thank you!

Took the trash down and fed the cats, going to lay down for another hour..back is a little stiff..but at least most of the yardwork is done.

The rest of the weedwacking is going to wait till tomorrow when it's only going to be 82.

This weekend is going to be a dud, weather wise. Temps only in the 50's Sat, 60's Sunday, chance of rain,,and down to 42 at night? Come on Mother Nature,,it's almost the end of May!

Have a nice morning everyone.

Hmmm, something to write about, thanks for the photo of the ducks to give me ideas. Every year 2 ducks, I named Wilma and Fred , come to our neighborhood. They stick around for a month or so then move on. Maybe they wore born here ? They jump from my neighbor next door’s tiny backyard pond to a house 3 doors down to their pond. When my dog was still alive I would take her out the back door and if I wasn’t paying attention tear my arm off chasing them out of the yard. They would also sit on the roof of our house just kind of surveying the neighborhood. About 3 years ago, they brought 3 kids ? Cousins? With them . We named them Bob, Stewart , and Kevin after The Minions.
ok, 2 more days for the school year. Gotta run and get ready for the day, but I’ll leave you with

QOTD: WHAT DO YOU TYPICALLY DO ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ?

attend a parade ? Have A family picnic ? Visit the cemetery ? I’ll be back later to share my experiences

Good morning all-

QOTD: WHAT DO YOU TYPICALLY DO ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ?

Honestly, not a whole lot. We do revisit some of the stories from the Navy/WW2 my grandfather told. Most slightly off color :lmao: and rather funny! It's a fun memory of him for me for sure. No cemetery visits for us - partly because none of my 4 grandparents (both grandfathers in service, both grandmothers in nurse corp) are buried anywhere...honestly we don't do formal funerals on my fathers side and don't subscribe to traditional funeral traditions. My immediate family members that are gone are either buried at sea (on purpose) in another country or were - not to be terribly gruesome - not recoverable due to circumstance/nature of death. My youngest son is currently in the Army Nat'l Guard but active duty state side and my nephew is active duty in the Coast Guard, so I will touch base with them for sure. We also have two other nephews who are former Army, but have moved onto to civilian life these days. We do have a massive flag we put up on our barn roof, so that will go up in the next day or so. And bunting to put up at end of driveway. Actually may get to see & visit with youngest this weekend so that will be nice.

We are having a combination of arborvitae, viburnum, magnolia shrub, and yews to plant along the 1/4 acre of fence line we took down this coming weekend. "we are having" equals us and some fellas we have coming to help out for a days pay on Saturday! The trees/shrubs are all a good 3-5' tall so it will make a immediate difference in the landscape. We will continue to fill in the area - should be about 20 feet between everything - in the next several months to a year. Having the baby excavator with a auger brought to the farm for drilling holes today, and having one of the big excavators delivered to facilitate placing the dock supports back in. Huh - I guess my plan of 'doing nothing for once' this long weekend will not be coming to fruition! Oh well, there is something satisfying about getting some big yard projects accomplished and finished. Add in the usual couple of hours of mowing and if lucky, Monday we will relax :thumbsup2

Last night we were standing on the porch, looking over the yard and finalizing some of our landscaping plans over a glass of wine when we noticed a few chickens had gone rouge. So if you drove by our farm around 8:30 last night you'd have seen us, one handed since we were each holding a wine glass, in pajamas walking around the lower barn trying to herd 4 chickens back into the pen! With me telling the chickens-as if they could understand - "lets go, back in the pen, I'm not doing this all night! let's go, fall in!"

Dinner this evening will be a combo of leftover items in the fridge. We will be working outside most of the evening so that will be the easiest thing to do, that way we can just come in and grab something when time permits.

Have a good morning everyone -

Good morning. Busy day of packing, mowing grass, frosting the cupcakes, and laundry ahead.

It is warm and humid and we expect storms this afternoon. And the cicadas are out.

@chickapin parterre, am I to assume you were trying to see the lunar eclipse?

QOTD: WHAT DO YOU TYPICALLY DO ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ?
DD's birthday is and FIL's birthday was May 30 so usually the weekend was birthday celebrations. We rarely went out of town because beach traffic would be awful. And the Fair Hill Races were right up the road. When we belonged to a community pool, it would be opening weekend so we would probably end up there. And of course, the flag would be hung out. This is the first year I can remember actually going away for the weekend.

Good Morning Friends,

That’s amazing Kirby that your dream picks right back up once you get back in bed! I’m not sure I’ve ever had that experience. Hug, that is also great kid advice. I hope your package finally makes it to you and is what you wanted!

I think I found you, Carol! Thanks for the added info :) Cupcakes sound great right now!

Your post also made me smile, Chickapin parterre, thanks.

Brr to 42 degrees, Lynn! The weather out there sure has been topsy turvy! J to Mickey.

Love the ducks, PollyannaMom! Thank you! On our Quacker family shirt there definitely should be a duck or two :)

Lol, love your Wilma and Fred Duck story, Sparkle. How cool they kept returning. As for the QOTD: (Thank you for asking it. I do think such questions help keep our thread a little busier plus they are fun :)) QOTD: WHAT DO YOU TYPICALLY DO ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ? Usually would go to church, of course, on Sunday. Probably do some type of shopping and/or lunch with my Dad on one of the days just as a treat. Definitely give extra prayer and thanks to all who have served. I am not at all a fireworks fan so don’t care for those ever. The end of May also meant church camps that I worked at were coming closer (they normally began by mid -June) I do think it would be fun and meaningful to attend a smaller town parade. We just don’t have that here. I do think a family or friend/church family picnic would be a great idea to have.

So many funny stories this morning. Sorry about your chicken herding adventure, Easyas, but it did make for a great tale! I sure hope you got to relax after that!

As a Target reminder for those of you that have a Red Card. Remember to add your birthday to Target Circle. You will get via email a 5% off storewide offer. You do have to add the offer onto your account (like you would any circle offer) The handy thing is that the extra 5% once added can be used in store or online and is automatically applied. We were able to use my birthday 5% extra on Target.com last night.

I really did enjoy and would recommend one of my library books, Maggie's Miracle by Karen Kingsbury. The other book was a 4 in 1 compilation of short stories which just didn't grab my attention at all. Good thing it was a free to read book. So thankful Dad and I have a way now to get library books again. Of course, I will be super excited one great post plague day to actually go inside a library again! 📚

Have a great day, everyone 🐥

Good Afternoon everyone. It is warm and muggy here today. There is a chance of rain this afternoon or evening.

I let my mom know about Crystal and she really surprised me by not being angry. I had a really great conversation with my dad. I learned some things about when he and my mom were dating and bought their first house and the last house that they are still in after 55 years. I never knew if it weren't for my grandmother my parents might not have happened. I do know she wasn't happy about it later. My parents married very young and my dad was NIT what my grandparents wanted for a son in law. He was a little rough around the edges and his father was a "drunk" as my grandmother once told me. My grandfather was an alcoholic but he was a good man and I adored him. My mom's parents actually tried to have my parents annulled and me me put up for adoption. Thankfully my dad stood up to them. Their first house was bought with the down payment he won playing cards with the "Greek Mob". That is what he said anyway. My mom was not happy with him. I really enjoyed the talk though. My dad has some great stories to share yet,

I sadly got my Benny in trouble with his parents. I told my daughter about his weird kissing my car headrests but was more upset that he wouldn't stay seated in the car. His mom had a stern talk with him but his dad wouldn't let him go outside to play. I didn't want him in trouble like that. I talked with him today and explained that I hated to tell his parents but he needs to understand how dangerous it is not to stay seated and buckled in. I did explain how I knew of 2 people who were killed in accidents because they didn't have on seatbelts and went through the windshield because they weren't secured. I told him that if he ever got hurt like that I could never forgive myself because I love him so much. He gave me a big hug and when we got in the car he buckled right up. I love the clown side of him but i also want him safe.

Quiet day for the most part though I do have to take my husband to the foot doctor. He should have gone before now but with things on lockdown til recently I was a bit remiss. He does need a new pair of shoes though so we need the script for them. He needs special order diabetic shoes that are molded to his feet and with the neuropathy they do need to be checked out more often. Hopefully we can get back on track with that.

QOTD - We usually had a cookout but not much else on Memorial Day. My son took over the BBQ a few years ago and we would go there. In doing ancestry the past year I found out that I had a distant cousin killed in WWII but other than that I don't think we lost any other family members. I do try and take a moment to think about those that gave all. We have a lot of veterans in the family bit the cousin is the only one I know for sure that gave the ultimate sacrifice.
