Good morning everyone. Cool start to the day at 43, going to be sunny and 63. Then chance of rain the next 3 days, unless they all of a sudden change their minds again. I do want to finish weeding and mulching the other side of the house flower beds, and that will be my only project for the day. I did laundry last nite, and was so tired, that I put the towels in the dryer, pushed the button and nothing happened. I pressed again, nothing. Checked the circuit breaker, it was fine..then dawned on me, if the light inside the dryer was on, there had to be power. Then my tired brain clicked into gear. If the light was open, that meant the door was open,,lol. Close the door, push the button again, and voila..dry towels,,lol!

Watched some tv and was in bed by 10. Up at 4 am, still tired, going back to sleep for awhile.I can't answer the QOTD about sundress or sandals right off the bat,,will have to think about that one till later

Have a nice morning

I was super tired this week! It might’ve been the weather - sort of wet, dark and gloomy, or change of seasons - besides work being very busy. DH bought me flowers for Nurse’s Week, which were cheery, and DD’s sweet boyfriend came a long way to bring her flowers and cupcakes for Nurse’s Week on a day he was working late. He looked so cute in his work clothes, I’m not used to seeing him that way. Not to be outdone, DS is taking me and DD (and DH) out for dinner tonight at the place of our choosing, also for Nurse’s Week. I’ll take it! :goodvibes Everyone knows what a tough year it’s been for us. We had some special events at work, too. I like having my hands blessed when the Chaplains come around.

Trying to decide what I want to do for Mother’s Day, I haven’t really thought that far ahead yet. But I know it will be a relaxing day at home. Pool was opened this week if the weather is nice. And something easy on the grill. Maybe a batch of espresso martinis. 🍸 What are you guys doing? Today I think I am going to do an online grocery order as I have a Zoom meeting mid-day and the guy is coming to fix the dryer in the afternoon. I might go back to sleep for a little while, too. 😴 I have a photo project I’m working on but I think it’s going to have to wait until next week as the next few days will be busy. Had some really nice patients last weekend. With one, we connected so well, she reminded me of my Mom. She insisted I take a small gift when I was leaving which was touching. I would miss my patients if I were to leave my job.

Happy Nurse's Day!

Let's see, today is a go get things done day. DS NEEDS shoes, so we are going to hit Kohls first (and I have an Amazon order to return there). Then we need to hit the post office, for 2 or 3 packages, and if we don't find shoes at Kohls, we'll go hit Academy (just about 15 minutes from the p.o.). A quick stop at either Publix or Fresh Market to get a few groceries.

I'm trying to clean out the deep freezer so I can defrost it. It has almost a half an inch of frost on the inside, so it needs to be done. I figure, if I can get it down by 1/2, then I can pack the rest in our coolers, so it stays frozen for the two-three hours it will take to defrost, and the frozen stuff will stay frozen in the coolers for that short of time.

I scrubbed our bathroom, swept and mopped the kitchen/bath, and washed our bedding yesterday. We ended up having Moe's for lunch, because I was just not in the mood to cook (and I totally forgot to pull any meat out, lol). Today is breakfast for dinner: bacon, eggs, hashbrown potatoes, and maybe a fruit salad, if I like the fruit at the store (and toast if anyone wants it).

One of my credit card numbers was stolen, and used for an Uber. A new card has been issued, and the amount refunded. But...I have a pending $30 charge on another card, for AT&T TV (which we DO have, but our bill doesn't come up for another 10 days, and it's for more than the amount pending; plus there are 2 $1 pending charges for AT&T Tv as well); this is a brand new card. I've only had it for...geez...less than a month...hasn't been a full billing cycle yet! The only place in common with those two cards is a certain restaurant here, that makes biscuits, and the post office. (I use my credit cards, then pay them after charges go through, so as not to have my debit card get into this kind of a mess.) Amex said to wait to see if the pending charges clear before they can do anything.

Morning everyone.

Baseball was cancelled last night so I watched some of the Phillies game. I like in person so much better. My mom called and we are starting up food distribution again but we have to pick up the skid. Thankfully the warehouse is 5 minutes from my house. Then the distribution is from 11 AM - 1 PM. I had to alter my plans for the day so I wasn't happy about that. I thought we were on hold for another week and my ankle has been giving out alot. I don't mind helping I just don't like last minute plans.

Mothers Day will be spent at the Ball Field. I told my husband I want BBQ so we are trying a small restaurant that everyone raves about for take out. I've been in the mood for a good brisket. This could change IF my son invites me for BBQ at his house but I doubt it. He was due on Mother's Day and came a month late just in time for Father's Day. He ALWAYS remembers Father's Day, I'm lucky if he remembers my birthday before I go to bed.

@Pea-n-Me Happy Nurses Week to you and your daughter. I should get my daughter a little something to show her how incredibly proud I am of her.

My daughter took the rough road to get where she is. She dropped out of High School with my blessing. She was assaulted in middle school and had a lot of issues with school after that. The incident happened at school and they wanted to pretend it didn't happen. We called the police. She worked from the time she was 15, sometimes 2 jobs at once. She got her GED on her first try, went to the Community College for the nursing program and graduated with honors being accepted at every nursing school she applied to. She took one year delay because she was pregnant and then went to nursing school with 3 kids at home, 2 of them were a newborn and 1 year old. She also got her Bachelor's in Nursing right after that. It was a struggle but she doubts herself so much. For her to accomplish all this while raising 3 sons is amazing. I am so incredibly proud of her.

@Bianca and Bernard Glad you caught the charges. I check my credit cards at least once a week. I have learned to be very careful where I use them. Never at a gas station, more fraud happens there than most places. I also avoid ATM machines because again they are easy to attach skimmers. After having my wallet stolen a few years ago, it was my own fault, and watching the thieves go down a row of stores trying to use my cards I learned my lesson. The police wouldn't even look at the surveillance tape I had, helps having a sheriff for a husband. I understood the cop's reasoning although I was angry about it. I was the 15th case of credit card fraud that day and it was only 9:30 AM. They don't have the time or manpower.

QOTD - I don't have a special spring dress. I don't own a dress in fact. I did like the outfit I wore for my oldest daughters wedding and still have the top. I need to get a new pair of white slacks though they shrunk a little and are a tad to short now.

I had 2 strings of pearls, one for my daughter and one for me. They had belonged to my aunt and her mother so the string for my daughter was about 100 years old. It snapped as we put it on. Mine broke that night. To restring them is going to be very expensive but I think I am going to get it done before the cruise next year. My granddaughters will each get one of the strings one day. It's hard to see in the picture but the shirt is sort of sparkly.

Have a great day everyone.

Sorry to hear about the 2 of you having your credit cards hacks..its just so easy to do these days. I check our account every other day, sometimes daily, just to keep tabs on it. I always check for skimmers if using any atm or at the gas pump.

Only 9 am and I am done with chores. opened the greenhouse screen door, watered all the tomato plants and flowers. Finished weeding and mulching the side flower beds, and weedwacked the edges of the driveway and in and outside the garden fence. I quit for the day!

To all of you in the nursing field--many thanks for all you do, you are very underappreciated most of the time!

Good morning.

I already rehung the curtain rod this morning. Temporary fix but it's up. Next, I need to ride the backyard. We have timed tickets for Longwood this afternoon. Then this evening I get to stalk DS again as I track his flight from Honolulu, HI to Waimea, HI.

@Bianca and Bernard, what a mess with your credit card.

@TazDev, I hope you watched the end of the Orioles game. I loved seeing a picture of you. And kudos to your daughter for working so hard for her nursing degree.

Just finished mowing the back yard and picking up the trash behind our fence in the neighbors yard. They have a row of trees so can't see the mess back there.

I am tracking a package that was mailed from Towson, MD to me, trip of about 50 miles. The package is currently in Warrendale PA which is north west of Pittsburgh. Seems like it is taking the long route.

I am waiting for one that was shipped from FL on April 19, and has been stuck in Washington DC since then. Post Office still doesn't have it's act together :(

Good morning everyone.
Long story short, husband didn't need to drive to LA, although eldest still went. Ended up taking a buddy of his with him - buddy can't drive the truck but at least he is company, and they are going to stay at buddies aunt & uncle's place outside of New Orleans tonight before the long slog back home Friday. Never was a man more relived not to have to make such a long trip in a short period of time!

Indeed it is taking the long route! I had to mail something certified w/ return-receipt to California in early April. There was only a USPS address, so I couldn't send it UPS and track it. I just wanted to make sure it got there. So anyway, go the slip back yesterday. It was stamped April 14, so it took 3 weeks for this first class postcard to get to me. I had to send a similar letter to the mid-west at the same time, it still hasn't come back!

I'm a bit bummed by the weather over the next few days. Going to be chilly. I'm ready for steady warmth.

QOTD; your favorite memory of wearing a spring sundress/outfit or new pair of sandals

Stumped me there, can't think of a memory associated with a sundress or sandals!

Well, I won't say no to a martini or two ha ha, although not a espresso one! Or maybe a decent bottle of champagne? I have no idea what we are doing. Well, nothing much is planned let me put it that way. I told the kids not to make a bother - I did get some crabmeat and may make some crab dip. Might go pick up some ornamental grasses or rose bushes to start to put around the fence. Or might not. I'm not feeling terribly enthused about it, not for any reason though. I think the fact that the (current) weather forecast is so crappy around here that day just means we can't be on the porch or outside much and I'm just ready to be outside.

Good Morning!

So nice to see so many new posts :)

Thank you Pea and to all other nurses! You make such a difference to so many!

Hug, B&B, how awful about your credit card :( Dad and I check our accounts daily as well. So glad you caught it.

I also loved seeing pictures of you Taz Dev and Carol, as well, thank you ladies for sharing.

Glad your DH did not have to make the long drive, Easyas! It's also good your DS has a companion in the car with him as he makes his own long drive.

QOTD; your favorite memory of wearing a spring sundress/outfit or new pair of sandals

At the moment I am drawing a blank! I admit to not being a big dress fan. I absolutely look forward in general one great day post plague going to Kohls! Depending on the season that happens, I would like to get some type of flower print (but not over the top) top or capris something. I do like brighter, lighter, colors in general. Thanks for asking a QOTD Sparkle :)

Hugs to all for a good Thursday.

I have made a executive decision.
Frozen pizza for dinner this evening-

Spoiler alert: I did not make breakfast for dinner.
We had Zaxby's for lunch. By the time I was done at the post office and Kohls (really, people, over a year in and you STILL can't be respectful of others and wear a mask or social distance in buildings....), I was just over it all. So I broke down and ate fast food (again).

We had pretty good rain/thunderstorms this morning/early afternoon.

I'm going to go walk here in a little bit with DH. Yesterday, I managed 3500 steps (which, for my short fat legs, means almost 2 miles). Going to do it again today. Two weeks ago, I was dying at 3/4 of a mile; last week I swung between 1 mile and 1-1/2 miles, so I'm making progress. Next week, I'm shooting for 2-1/2 to 3 miles; and the week after that, I'll be walking by myself, so I'll go during the day, since DH will be back to work., and will be doing his walks in the very early morning. I don't like getting up at 4am to walk, so.....plus that way, he can do his powerwalks, and not have to go slow for me (I usually take 2 steps to each one of his...darn ogres...). Well, any progress is good, since I've not done much over the last 6 years.

Warning: Venting ahead! Somewhat interesting week at work... I work for state government, and yesterday our governor announced that all state employees are going back to the office full time, beginning May 17, with NO hybrid option. It's all over the news if you were to Google our governors name (which I won't share here, nor my state) so I feel I can share here now. I know I've been fortunate to have a hybrid option for as long as I have, but this came out of nowhere. And... I was going to share more here, but won't, since this is a public forum, but if you want any more "interesting" details, PM me. :P

Nice to read updates from many of you!

WTG Bianca and Bernard..you are doing great at your walking!

Had a lovely afternoon at Longwood. It amazes me how different it is each time we go. And the fountain shows (think Bellagio) have resumed for the summer. We saw two of them. Different music.

Re: Mother's Day. Neither DH's or my mother is still alive so no celebrating that way. DS will still be away but left an envelope here and told me to open it Mother's Day. DD invited me to her house for carry out dinner. After all, she is a mother too. There are two days a year I refuse to cook - Mother's Day and my birthday. Will probably go somewhere for lunch, or get carry out.

@Bianca and Bernard, way to go with your walking. It is hard to start a new habit.

Evening all.

Just watched my youngest grandson play T-Ball. He makes me laugh. The boy does not take anything seriously. Of course when a bossy little girl on his team starting yelling at him because he was digging in the dirt he did what little boys do - he threw it at her. Thankfully it was a small amount and windy. My daughter did tell him to stop and he just smiled. I predict she is going to have her hands full as she gets older.

Then my other daughter called me and reminded me of the date. 30 years ago on this date she was hit by a car in front of my house. I was on the front steps calling the 3 kids in as it was starting to rain and I stood frozen with her name stuck in my throat as I watched the car hit her. Of course like any crazy mom in shock I picked her up and took her in the house because it was raining. I look back now and realize how crazy I was. I called my husband at work and told his sergeant our daughter was hit by a car and he needs to get to the hospital. Of course I failed to mention what hospital and what daughter. Then I started to take her to the car when a neighbor said they had called 911. Took her back in the house. That poor child had a compound fracture of both bones in her leg and I just kept carrying her around. Thankfully she was in shock and the pain hadn't kicked in yet. She will always suffer from some of the effects of the accident but as I left the hospital one night the guard wished me a Happy Mothers Day, the next day. It hit me then that even though I would be sitting in a hospital with her all day and eating horrible hospital food it would be the best mother's day I would ever have. I could have lost my baby and instead I was there with her celebrating. My kids always said she was my favorite, which absolutely is not true. I had no favorites, but she will always be special just because she survived.

On that note I hope everyone has a pleasant evening.

Longwood really sounds like a lovely place, Carol. I am so glad you are able to go there. I do remember many moons ago, either Sea World or perhaps it was an old Marineland type place that was even closer to the city, had a light show over water that I enjoyed. I have never seen World of Color at DL because it sounds like it might get quite loud.

Just :hug:Taz Dev.

I am disappointed yet again by some unofficial church news I learned this afternoon. Praying the new interim will go forth in much more honest and straightforward manner than sadly has often been the case. I did hear the new guy is starting on Monday so that will be interesting to see what if anything he writes in next week's newsletter.

Good evening to all with a hug from CA.
