Happy Friday, everyone 🐣

Lynn, sometimes I also wonder about weather reporters! I'm so glad you got to chat with your SIL and that your DH had a treat.

Taz Dev, many prayers your brother has indeed found peace! No one should ever experience being bullied.

:grouphug:Easyas. We care and are here! ITA about drinking and driving. I am so sorry about your cousin :(

QOTD: How did you meet your friends? A lot of my current friends I have met through church both working at summer camps and as a volunteer/regular congregant. I am so thankful God led me to become part of this lovely thread. Through it, I have been extra Blessed to become closer with several of you. The only other online site I'm apart of is paperback swap. There's a kindness section on there where I've met several lovely folks. Also have friends from the local community. As others of you have said while working, I had fellow teacher friends at those times and a long time ago when I was a caregiver for my Grandma, I was apart of a small caregiving support group--lovely folks in that.

@easyas123--please don't apologize for 'bringing this thread down', that's what this thread is for. We can all understand the way you are feeling, lots of us have had the same feelings (maybe about other things, but still....). Its for venting, celebrating, commiserating, and most of all understanding. --Are your bathroom blinds regular vinyl blinds? In winter when I clean them, I put them in the tub to soak,,but since we are going to have rain, I am going to hang ours out over the clothesline and let the rain wash most of it away,,then I will bring them in and dry them and put them back up. Warmer weather gets me in the mood for Spring cleaning,,but it's a little too early yet, lol!
How great that you can see signs of Spring in your yard. I have spotted buds on my lilac bushes, on hubby's magnolia tree, and have even found 2 dandelions in full bloom out in ours, lol!

Calling for rain here tomorrow too,50% chance..with 100% chance on Sunday, but at least temps will be near 60.

I just ordered some new varieties of tomato seeds this morning. I kept a lot from last years favorite tomatoes, but always like to try a couple of new ones, and the one we liked best , Mushroom basket, I wanted to make sure I had a couple of extra fresh packets just in case they discontinue them.

I just put together a tuna casserole for dinner here tonite, haven't made that in ages, and we were both craving it!

They are cellular blinds. My husband had that same idea, soak in tub. I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me before, but I just googled the best way to clean them and it says to dust them (gulp, haven't in???) and vacuum them but whatever you do, don't get them wet. Figures! I'll probably try the vacuum and see how we make out. We do have some plantation blinds in other areas of the house to clean, I think those I can put in tub and 'wash' off.

We have cabinets. They are not installed but the base cabinets are in place. My grandson banged his knee so I told him to go home and rest it. He will have help tomorrow so it will be easier then. I was so worried they wouldn't fit but there is plenty of room.

@easyas123 I totally understand your frustration. I lost a friend from high school a year after we graduated. The other friend was severely injured and took over a year to recover physically. I made a vow to never drink and drive and I don't. I went to Disney with a friend a few years ago and she was drinking around the world in EPCOT. We were going to go to the mini golf place that night but the buses had stopped running. She wanted to drive and got a little angry with me that I refused to get in her car. I explained the dilemma to the concierge and they gave us vouchers for Mears to take us and pick us up. The manager was happy that I took that stance. My friend did get over it thankfully.

The problem is that the laws for DUI are to lax. We had a judge here in Philly for many years that was hated by MADD and the cops, in fact she had a couple of interesting nicknames, Loony Lisa was the most DIS friendly. She had a case in front of her where the driver was charged with DUI, vehicular manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter while DUI, and a few other felonies. She gave him probation because he didn't mean to hurt anyone.

Well I am off to see LJ today. Pics of him later. Have a good afternoon

Lynn, love your wise words, thank you for them. Hooray for signs of Spring!

Extra hug, Easyas. I never would have thought blinds of any type could be vacuumed! Although I could picture a dust buster type thing sucking away dust being helpful! I hope whatever method you choose works well and easily. You just have a good rest of the day, friend.

Enjoy every precious moment of your visit with LJ, Taz Dev!

Thanks everyone, for providing a sounding board earlier!

Youngest arrived home for his weekend break, he's sitting here now shooting the you-know-what with his father. Intro'd the dogs outside this evening and it went fairly well. As expected the great dane was a fraidy cat and a little wary of Cali, and the butthead growled a bit then totally
ignored her, which has been his M.O. w/ other foster dogs. Little bit at a time...
I was really good and didn't do take out for dinner this evening, although I really gave it a bit of thought ha ha!!! Came across a few frozen burgers so made those & some fries for the boys. I had a bowl of cereal.
Just found out our eldests best friend popped the question to his girlfriend whilst flying over the chesapeake bay (carol, he rents planes from that little airport on Kent Island). It was a fun video to see, she was surprised! Makes you start to feel a little bit old when your kids start going to their friends weddings!
Hope everyone has a pleasant evening.
Fingers crossed tomorrows "wintery mix" ends up being just rain!

Glad you had a better rest of the day, Easyas :) Thank you again for all your dog care.

Why does Hallmark keep repeating the same movies? They (probably) have years to choose from? Similar in a way to TV Series that are On Demand. Sure, every now and then an episode will get added but the majority never change even when in the description it says "expires on whatever date." Oh well. I am recording the Christmas movie on tonight of Sense, Sensibility, and Snowmen--that one looks (new to me) I admit to not being much intrigued by the truly new movie airing tomorrow night.

Dad is feeling better today, at least he got more rest last night. He still is experiencing neck pain and grateful to Tylenol. Praying he feels much better in the morning.

Friday Extra Gratitude: Dad is safely home now for the weekend, extra quiet time right now for prayer and thanks, and seeing how tall and green Evergreen (Christmas tree planted out front) is growing by God's grace when I moved my car this morning.

@lynxstch, we have thunder storms year round though not as often in the winter months. Spring is always tense as we keep a close eye on the weather. We've had hail the size of soft balls before. And those tornadoes are scary! Haven't seen one up close and hope I never do.

It's going to be a rainy off and on type of weekend. I noticed that some more of my Daffodils had bloomed but they are all laying down on the ground. I hope that they are not done blooming.

How/when did I meet my friends?
A couple of them I grew up with, they lived across the street and our moms were best friends. We still keep in touch but don't see each other often. I have two groups of women that I do things with (or did before Covid). The younger group (my age), we get together every four to six weeks and have lunch or dinner outside. We used to take a weekend trip together once or twice a year and are looking forward to doing that again. I met one of them when our daughters were in Mothers Day Out. We been friends since, 26 years. I met the others in our group through her or through band when DD was in high school. The other group I met through church. They are mixed ages, 40's - 70's. Some of us are in the same book club, others we meet once a month for dinner. Most I haven't seen for a year now because of Covid but we keep in touch. Can't wait to give all of them a great big hug. And then there is family that I consider not just relatives but also friends too. I had to come back in and edit, I also have some neighbors that have become really good friends too.

Good morning--its a misty rainy one here. Going to be near 60 today and tomorrow, but with rain in the forecast. I can live with it, as long as the snow and ice are done with for the Winter!

I have a feeling it will be another boring weekend. Stuck inside with rain, don't really feel like cleaning, trying to get the tivo emptied down a bit. It is also bathroom cleaning day, change the sheets day and beauty treatment day. --isn't that exciting stuff? d322c4f813d83cec63922ed67e910e8e.jpgI should have called the hairdresser and made an appt for a cut, but I forgot to do it yesterday.

Have a nice morning everyone--

QOTD: How did you meet your friends?

I guess "seasonally" is the best word? - My earliest friends were the kids of my parents' friends, then people I met through school and college (especially a volunteer program I participated in, as that's where I first met DH as well.) A few from work over the years, and wives/girlfriends of DH's friends.

When DS was little, it was through playgroups and library programs. (And until covid, that was happening again with the twins I take care of.) Neighbors, definitely, especially when the kids were young and we were all home. And of course, the DIS!!

As an introvert, I'm not very good about putting in the social effort to maintain intense friendships. (I've tended to rely over the years on the built-in structure of things like dorm life or playgroups.) So oftentimes, I've had a lot of people I'm "friendly with" but few people (other than family) that I'm really close to.

Good morning.

I've kind of been avoiding responding, although I've been reading, because I didn't want to answer the QOTD. I figured I didn't have to answer. I am envious of people who have years long friendship and best friends. I really have no friends left from childhood. One or two out of state I keep touch on Facebook. Really no one from college. My job in home health didn't lend itself to making friends, more casual acquaintances. I was friends with my kids' friends' parents in scouts, soccer, etc, but they all ended when the kids moved on. I have many acquaintances through church but really never do anything socially with them. I do have some friends I've made through the DIS that I have met in real life and keep in touch with, but because of distance, no one I can call and say "let's do lunch."

I don't want to sound lonely and friendless and in need of pity, which is why I wasn't going to answer. Of course, you all are my friends but again, can't call and do lunch.

Mud, mud everywhere and more to come.
OMG, our yard, since the septic incident, is a mud pit. Kind of glad we don't have dogs right now. Really looking forward to spring and grass seed being able to germinate.

Only plan today is going to the church to do our altar guild duties.

That’s ok Breezy Carol. At this time in your life, your kids and your grandkids are your friends and take up a good portion of your time and love.

i also had 2 great friends in college who we shared many of fun times with, but after moving out of state for jobs and getting married, we lost touch. One tried to reconnect recently on facebook. Although, I wish her well I barely have time to visit my sisters and can’t really plan another trip in her direction. She filled a spot in my life when i needed it and now I have new friends who do that

Good Morning All,

Hug, Carol, that is quite okay. My own childhood was not a positive experience overall. I sure don't have any friends left from it. I absolutely would not want to go back! As I grew into adulthood and got older, like PollyannaMom, the majority of my own friends have been seasonal or job/activity dependent. Being so active in church the last half a dozen years has definitely eased my shyness/reserved-ness at times but by no means am I an extrovert! Post plague, as I have shared, I would love to follow God's call in my heart to help better connect church ministries and congregants along with ideally some of the community as well like the Hallmark Christmas movies! :)

I also believe with all my heart that God places people in our lives who we might Bless or help encourage in faith or who might do so for us when we/they most need to meet. I give Him thanks daily for bringing and keeping us all together right here for one :)

It's sunny, cool, and windy here this morning. Blessing I got some extra rest last night.

Fuzzy sock FYI. I shared a while back about a package of Fuzzy socks I ordered on Amazon. They are sold by Pro Etrade brand. Should any of you ever be in the market for such socks let me know so I can send you the link of what NOT to purchase. These socks shed fuzzes everywhere! I had ordered my first package of 6 at Christmas. 6 solid colors. Those other than the black pair which had to be tossed because those oh my goodness invaded my poor couch blanket, floor, etc. with black fuzzes they were not too bad. Sure they definitely shed some! I made the mistake of ordering a second 6 pack a few weeks ago. Again, I ordered 6 solid colors. I was sent 6 striped socks. The striped socks create fuzzes out of nowhere it seems! Literally I will take a bunch off a blanket and then a few minutes later see more. Also the striped aren't as long as the solid (same one supposed extended size) so aren't as comfortable. After one too many a fuzz later last night, I did chat with Amazon. They were very kind to refund the cost of the striped socks. The solid colors, it's been too long. I was most grateful!

My Dad is braving out his sore neck, still feeling it :( Thank you all for keeping him in good prayer.

Happy Saturday, friends!

@flyingdumbo127--sorry to hear your Dad's sore neck is still bothering him,,,more prayers sent.
My Sister in Law got her first vaccine yesterday afternoon, and did not have a good all around experience. The place was jammed with people, they had chairs set 6 feet apart, but people kept moving them to sit near people they knew, so not much social distancing. They were running behind because people were either showing up early for their time slots, or showing up late. She finally found a chair in the corner next to an elderly man, and people left them alone. After they got the shot, they were sent to the other side of the room to wait for 15 min to see if anyone had any bad reactions, but they were not sanitizing the chairs between people sitting in them. She was thoroughly disgusted by the time they got out of there. She now says she wishes she had waited for the Johnson and Johnson 1 shot one, as she will have to go through that all over again. So far she said nothing is bothering her, but knowing my sister in law, by this afternoon she will be complaining about something, lol!

Edited it to add..not 30 seconds after I posted this,,she messaged me and said her shoulder is aching and the shot site is sore and tender. I told you so, lol!

Thank you, Lynn very much. That does not sound like a well thought out safe plan at all! I'm sorry your sister in law and many others experienced that! I hope she feels better soon!

I forgot to ask earlier on a sock continuing note, do any of your sons or husbands (thinking again for extended sizes since I wear a 9 1/2 shoe) ever wear thicker non fuzzy socks? Perhaps as rainboot socks or just warmer socks at home? A good 10 years ago now, at Marshalls, Dad had gotten some Nautica brand socks. I still have 4 of them. They just fit him so I inherited them. I like them because they truly are non binding all-around especially at the top and are long enough! They are solid colors with a blue stripe near the bottom. I haven't seen these being sold in probably all that time. I thought I'd ask whether any of you could recommend anything similar. These would replace the fuzzing all over fuzzy socks for me! I would need to be able to order them on either Amazon, Walmart, or Target. Thank you :)

DH just discovered some from Duluth Trading! The order form read: "Men's Everyday 6-Pack Midweight Crew Socks".

He generally hates socks, but he loves these! (Actually, he and DS both do, so they've ordered more in a different color, so they they can keep them straight. :rotfl:) He says they are super soft and padded without making his feet too hot.

I'm not sure if any of the stores you mentioned carry them, as he orders directly from Duluth, but you could fish around a bit online.

Hello, just to comment about you saying your not an extrovert, keep praying god brought me out of being an introvert to where I learned how to speak up. LOL I started doing things that I never thought in a million years I would do. But I will keep you in prayer along with your dad. Nice to see this thread..
