instantly thought we should go to breakfast... then got sad we couldn't actually got to breakfast
DH and I woke up early this morning and I said the same thing, wishing we could go out to breakfast.

It's a little thing, but that is what has got me bummed about this coming Mothers Day weekend - Mothers Day was never a huge deal in our home (I'm the Mom, I prefer it that way!) but we always went out to breakfast at this one particular diner, then I took myself to the two nurseries I like to go to and would wander and take my damn time! That was MY Mothers Day gift to myself :jumping1: and I look forward to that lazy Sunday a lot, it is when I buy all the flowers for our porch, and my hanging baskets and all that fun stuff. Boo - even the weather will be chilly and blah this year.

For the past several Mother's Days, my kids came to the town where our church is. DD travels 25 minutes, DS 1 hour 45 minutes. They may or may not go to church but then we do brunch at a local restaurant. Always a nice day.

I have two days a year when I don't cook - Mother's Day and my birthday. I may be hungry Sunday. :rotfl2:

Ah ha! 👆 Knew it! Could tell by your ease of ideas, use of terminology, ability to dream up so many different meals with just a few ingredients and ability to plan and execute ahead so well, etc! CIA, wow! That must've been a great experience! DH is a J&W grad. He's worked with food all his life (family business) but later went to school as an adult. The piece of paper has served him well in his career. That is why I mostly shop and plan but he executes a lot of the time. He is used to working big, though, if you know what I mean. Although the mood struck me yest and I made a sauce with sausages (prefer meatballs but all they had at the store was sausage; the boys here were happy), rigatoni, salad and garlic bread. Also made a banana bread with overripe bananas and made myself some jello the old fashioned way, tired of paying so much for four little cups. I'm glad it's something you really seem to enjoy, and I like hearing your kitchen stories here! :goodvibes 🍽🍷

We've been in our house for 30 yrs. It was the first home we bought. We always had big dogs and probably outgrew it once our kids came along, but in the meantime we added an in law apt for my mother, and it was perfect for her - not only the space itself but the location, where she could easily get to the store and to church, or take a walk outside safely, etc., so we stayed. We later added a sunroom off our kitchen for more space in the main living area so that helped a lot. We did a big renovation at that time, as well. As I mentioned before we have a lot of great outdoor space too, but only get to use it for five months of the year due to winters (and often chilly springs and falls). The thought of moving isn't something I relish, at least not now or anytime soon. We have to purge. But it's more than that - we're relatively happy here. If we ever go anywhere else it would be to a smaller place like a condo or cottage where everything is taken care of. And I would really love something new or newish for once in my life, but prices where we live are insane, so we'll have to see. DS would like to buy our house some day, he loves it. We've talked about it and we can't see leaving our general area, but you never know what can happen.

I have to work on Mother's Day this year. Maybe it's just as well being the first without my mother, and so soon. Kids and DH keep asking me what I want and all I can really think of is a Spotify gift card. DS helped get me started with an account and I must say I really love it. It helps keep me calm and sane on drives to and from work or anywhere else I have to go. I have some Disney favorites on there as well as music I grew up with and I can easily get lost in it.

I am watching DD finish up her nursing courses she is just about two weeks away from being done with her BSN! It's been bittersweet though watching all the extra work she's had to do and how her traditional pinning and graduation are off, but I'm so proud of her and how hard she's worked! It will be nice when she can finally relax a little bit.

Gratitudes:
1. Everyone's health
2. Everyone's jobs
3. Finding the good things, and the good people, among this crisis

ETA I saw this this morning. It is not DD, but I think it helps convey the sadness which some of these kids have or will be feeling.

J+W is such a great school and it's been a pleasure watching it grow over the years:). It definitely made my short list back then but attending school in my home state gave me certain financial advantages that couldn't be ignored. And yes to the beauty of that type of degree. You might go into it with one part of the industry in mind and find yourself way on the other side yet still qualified.

This has been such a challenging year scholastically. Congratulations on her accomplishment and best thoughts that your DD takes these uncertain times and learns the lessons of them especially about best laid plans:hug:

Seems like pasta dishes are a big hit nowadays and why not? Easy to put on the table and all are satisfied! And yea to the bowl of Jello! I condoned them when DGD was little and was the only one eating them but now that the man has joined her in eating "wiggly jiggly" it's got to be the box, LOL.

I moved to a space that is a little less than half the size of our former apartment and am finding joy in the down sizing. It was hard at first but so much easier to care for both financially (this is an apt similar to a condo) and daily maintenance. Not hard to grow into so I wish you well in making a decision in time.

Can you order takeout from the diner? You made me think of ordering Martha Washington geraniums for my elder sister. Wonder if there is still time?

Well - I'm not sure! It's about 45 minutes from our home. We hit this particular diner when we go to the two nurseries near it a few times per year, and the nurseries are open - but I need to think about whether I want to eat my pancakes and scrapple on my lap in the car!

EDIT - good suggestion, I just checked their website for take out options. Looks like they have a limited 'family of four' type breakfast menu. Oh well. When they open, we'll go.

We have been in our house almost 18 years. We were in our previous home almost 24 years. We moved so the kids could have more space and have their own bedrooms. I would love to move to a condo now that we are in our early 60s but DH wants the space and autonomy of the house. I will keep working on it!

I was supposed to be in WDW for Mother's Day as I have been for the past few years. So, I am a bit sad about that. Plus even though I am home this year I can't hug or play with the grandkids this year or hug my kids. I will probably be seeing 3 of the grandkids via social distancing but I feel that is almost as bad as not seeing them in person. I want to run over and hug them but I can't. The years when I was in WDW I always saw them the weekend we got back and passed out souvenirs to them. I liked getting them WDW gifts for Mother's Day. :)

Supper tonight is bean, cheese, and veggie tostadas. No recipe, just made it up in my head. We'll see how it works out.

Soup & salad for us this evening - unseasonably cool out. Went home for lunch to find my husband had started a fire "for the dog":rotfl2:
Listening to the State of MD Governors press conference, sounds like there will be a loosening up of things a bit, although schools will be closed for the rest of the school year. I hope the same happens in DE soon as well. And everywhere else, of course!
I think I'm going to order some new hummingbird feeders this afternoon -

First Responders had a special treat in MA today.

It made me smile. 😊 DH actually saw it Live from his work.

I caught a glimpse of them as they flew (I'm assuming) from the Cape up to Boston. The photo I took is terribly uninspiring, as the planes are just tiny blurs in the distance. But the sound was impressive!

I was listening too. Now I feel like I can go bike ride the cross island trail on Kent Island.
DE schools are already closed for the rest of the year. I think fishing has been allowed at DE beaches.
I hope you have better luck with your hummingbirds than I do.

I'm in a yuck mood today. And I just realized it might have something to do with hubby working from home today...after also being home Monday and Tuesday as well as Thursday and Friday last week....and of course Saturday and Sunday....:scared:

I'm an introvert and need my alone time. I knew DD was working today and I thought hubby was going to the work warehouse but he doesn't need to do that until tomorrow when DD will be off....:faint:

Maybe I need a drink tonight....
:lmao:

Happy Wednesday to all,

it's been busy day for us. We went INTO the grocery store, the big store, for first time since this all started almost 2 months ago. When Matt asked his mom if she needed him to pick up anything on our way to see her Saturday, we didn't expect everything at the grocery store. We wore our masks and tried to stay away from the people. It was fine. I was so surprised at the amount of stuff missing from the shelves. Big shortage of meat of course with limits but there was still choices just may not be what people are used to. Very little pancake mix or butter and eggs or the canned meats or cereal. TP and PT was back in stock. We got almost everything on her list and she should be stocked for a while. We packed up goodies to be sent to my mama and her roommate. Mama is back home now and not feeling great, which expected after having 4 bottles of treatment today. They did really careful with her and took lots steps to keep her safe. It's all I can ask for right now.

Dinner tonight is hungry man breakfast. I'm making biscuits and gravy, sausage links, and cheddar eggs.

Gratitude today:

Beautiful day today. It's supposed to be gross soon so Im thankful for the gorgeous sunshine today.
Good conversation with Matt's grandma today and she was very happy to have us come to visit and bring cupcakes
The good care my mom receives. It is invaluable the care they take especially when she can be such difficult pain.

Peace and good health to all.

Question of the day: 5/6 What's the last movie you watched?

I love movies. I don't always have the attention span to watch but I think we will watch something this evening.
Hands down my husband's favorite is Back to the Future 1 and 2. Of course, I love Steele Magnolias and Fried Green Tomatoes
but I also like a good John Wayne movie or a musical. Last movie Matt watched was IT Pt2 (I don't do scary movies) and I watched Guarding Tess the other day.

Dr. Dolittle - it wasn't the greatest thing I've ever watched:scratchin
I'm hoping another Sherlock Holmes movies is on the Horizon, I think a third isn't due out till the end of 2021????

The dogs were watching HP (Chamber of Secrets) this afternoon while I was at work....I highly suspect my husband put it on for them!

Last movie we watched was last Saturday when the family was over......Pitch Black. DGD wanted to try it. She loves scary movies as long as someone is around to watch with her.
For DH and me, Thursdays have always been movie day, so tomorrow. It is his choice this week. Not sure what he is going to pick.
Lunch.....not sure about that either. Tomorrow is grocery shopping day, so we'll see what I get.

Excessive heat warning here today and tomorrow. 108!!

Still working on spring cleaning. I can see the end in sight!! Finally after 3 weeks. Today I did all the cabinets in the kitchen.

Tonight's dinner will be leftovers. I took Greek chicken, smothered chicken and pulled pork out of the freezer. Add a salad and all set.

Not a big movie person most of the time. Last movie I watched was Frozen 2, lol. We have been so behind on tivo'd shows, that it's taking us a while to catch up. The rest of my movies will have to wait till those are all caught up. Tonite is Survivor and Masked Singer.
Dinner here was leftovers. We made chicken salad out of the rest of the crock pot chicken from the other nite, and had that over a salad with cottage cheese and peaches.

Weather here today was cool and chilly, and only going to get worse over the next couple of days. They are saying by Saturday morning it could feel like 20 degrees with the wind chill? This is May, right? What is with the crazy weather?

Tina..glad that your Mom is back home..and glad that you and Matt had an adventure, going to the 'big store'. Can't believe you made it that long without going into one! Your hungry man breakfast for dinner sounds good!

Gratitudes today--hubby had an echocardiogram, and I was grateful for the way the hospital had it all planned out. You pulled into the the parking lot, someone with a clipboard came out to the car. Took your info, asked if you had an appt. Took your temp, and your cell phone # and said someone would call in a few min. The 'check in ' person called, verified information, and said cardiology dept would call when they were ready. Not 2 min later, they called. The nurse met us at the door of the diagnostic center, and walked us back. We were in and out in 20 min, and didn't have to touch anything. They even had a guard opening the doors for people going in and out. Very nicely done!
Grateful that we have a freezer pretty well stocked with meat, in case there are a lot of shortages in the big stores this weekend
Grateful for family that either calls or texts or messages, just to check and make sure we are ok
And I am still very grateful for this thread. It must be hard for you Tina, to come up with new questions every day!
Grateful that the Governor of MD is thinking of lifting the stay at home ban soon. Although we will all still have to be careful for the forseeable future, at least it's another step towards normalcy!
