I have a receipe that calls for 8oz dry macaroni - Does anyone know what that would be in metric..... Is it one cup????

Thanks.

Thanks....

the receipe calls for so little pasta and so much cheese.

Bet it will taste good.

Thanks again,

For dry pasta, 8oz is a WEIGHT measurement, not a cup measurement. Its about half of a one-pound box.

8 oz = 1.1 kg metric

As msmayor says, dry goods should be measured by weight.

Agreed with Msmayor. 8 oz. of dry macaroni is a weight measurement (but 8 oz. of milk is a volume measurement and is 1 cup). If you don't have a kitchen scale for weight measurements: one lb. = 16 oz., 1/2 lb. = 8 oz. = 250 grams.

8 oz. most certainly is NOT 1.1 kg.

8 oz. is 0.22 kg.

1.1 kg is the equivalent of 39 oz.

A cup is not metric.

Come on USA -- join the metric system!

Eight ounces of dry macaroni would be by weight. There are 28.5 grams per one ounce, so eight ounces would be 228 grams.

Heck no, we won't go! Heck no, we won't go!

:rotfl:

I TRIED learning it and gave up. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Too many xxxgrams and no context.

There are 2.2 lbs to 1 kg. That's where the 1.1 lb came from. (Not that it's right, but that is where it came from anyways.) The PP thought that 1/2 lb. would be 1.1 kg.

Metric is SO much easier once you get the hang of it. I really don't see it happening any time soon here in the US. Oh well!

Officially and legally the US is on the Metric system. If you are going to sell anything to the government, specification are metric.

About 20 years ago Ohio started putting both miles and kilometers on it's road signs, but gve it up as a lost cause.

And you will find that in the automotive indstry most of the mechanical specifications are metric. But some things, such as tires, are mixed.

Ah -- nothing like being the only industrialized country in the world to not use the metric system. :thumbsup2

It really is a wonderful system. If you can count to 10, then you can understand the metric system -- and it really is filled with context. :teacher:

When in doubt just do a google search for "online conversion" the first result is great. They have a weight to volume conversion for cooking that is very helpful. Good luck!:)
