I really was not going to reply to this one!

First off let me tell you that we stayed there about 9 - 10 years ago and things change. It was our first ever visit to Orlando.
We only booked the holiday 3 days prior to going and did not know the hotels at all. It was a Boxing Day flight and this appeared to be the only hotel left!

The hotel was not clean.
The hotel also had a very musty smell.
Staff non too friendly
Room adequate but did have an unpleasant odour.

I would never stay there again after that experience but things may have changed. I believe some of the other quality Inns are better.
Do you have the option to change ?

Sorry but that was our experience.

well thats got the post rolling ,i think i will still have the option to change,i will be interested in what other people say being as it was so long ago when you went, but thanks for the info and will bear in mind :grouphug:

You could try looking at the hotel reviews on Trip Advisor.

Looking at the reviews on trip advisor it does look to have improved a great deal.

If your looking for a hotel to basically sleep in, while your at the parks etc all day then this and many other hotels on I drive will be the one to go for.

Relaxing days by the pool and just chilling out in a bit of luxury try another more up market hotel. 3* hotels in florida are no different to the Travellodge in the U.K.

If your hotel is being booked through a travel agent, my advice is to look at all the hotels in the brochure on I-drive. A couple of years ago I book the Quality inn international as our hotel which is a 3*, only to find out later that the Rosen centre 4* was one hundred pounds cheaper staying on the same days - so I changed to the rosen centre and never regretted, its one of the best hotels i have ever stayed at.

We stayed there last October. The rooms were clean, no bad smells and the maid service was good. However this is a very basic hotel. The only negatives are small pool areas with noisy unruly kids in the pool till quite late (unfortunately usually British!! :guilty: ) and the lifts are decidedly dodgy. :rolleyes1 Balance this out with the fact that the price is fantastically cheap and it is smack in the middle of I-Drive. Its a Perfect location. :flower: :flower:

We stayed there in May 2004 for 2 weeks. When we initially got there I started crying, saying that we had spent all this money and it was my fault because I had chosen the hotel!! The room did smell slightly damp, there was a problem at check-in (they gave me a room key and when i opened the door somebody was already in there!!). We were put on the ground floor and there was a lot of people passing the room. Quite noisy at night with people chatting as they were passing. The pools were quite rowdy and the noise of the main road (is it the I4?) would have been unbearable if we had been facing it.

Now the plus side: The location is fantastic, lots of places to walk to at night, shopping mall directly opposite with a cinema, shops and an infamous hooters (husband will love it in here!!) How long are you actually in your hotel room for? You get ready in the morning, nip in at 19.00 hours, quick change, out again, back at 22.30, sleep!! My daughter, who is 9, loved the playarea. The outside area, where you can grab a beer, and sit and chill is ideal after a hectic day. :)

If you have never been to Disney before i think it is a good base : quite European, with loads of eating places. You can get away with not driving, loads of free transport and cabs.

Would I ever go back again - NEVER!! But only because we now stay on-site and love it. Husband doesn't have to drive, we stay at the HRH for the last 4 nights so that we can cover Universal etc.

Hope this is of some help, and doesn't put you off because i believe that a Florida holiday is what you make it and i am sure you will enjoy it no matter where you stay. :sunny:

TBH

I think if you are looking at these sort of 3* hotels you should be expecting no more than a base to go out each day, you are not going to get much else.

I think the best way to look at it is, if you go to this standard and dont ike it then save a little more next time. I am hoping to book the Homewood suites for next October from staying at the Radisson Barcelo this time.

We stayed there for our second week in 2001 - the first week we stayed at the POR , so moving to the QIP was a bit of a shock after being spoilt onsite :)The hotel is basic, but we found it clean and the maid service seemed OK.

The pool area closest to reception always seemed busy and full of rowdy Brits - often until quite late into the evening.

We only ate breakfast once in the hotel - it was a buffet and choice was limited. The food quality wasn't the best either! There is a Sizzler and a Ponderosa within easy walking distance for much better and cheaper breakfast choices :)

The best thing about the hotel is it's position on IDrive.

We stayed there several years ago.

As commented it is a budget hotel situated in a very popular area.

Didn't have many problems there and can see the appeal as you are within walking distance of restaurants etc

Personally we have moved on since and prefer to stay in nicer accomodation or villas (thats not being snobbish, we have stayed in worse than this hotel), just that the more we go the better class of comfort we want, especially with a young son.

We stayed at QII on I Drive and yes ,the hotel is basic.I thought that it was just OK . We chose Homewood Suites the next year and wow, what a difference. If you get it Cochise you are going to love it. It too is 3 star but I have to say it will always be our choice from now on.It is an amazing hotel - free shuttles to all the parks.
As for transportation, when I was there you had to pay to go to WDW - I dont know if they do a free shuttle now though. We used to use the I Ride and travel to stop 38 and then catch the Lynx to the Disney Transportation Centre. It was much cheaper than paying for the shuttle every day.
Also, if you want to go to US nad IoA why not catch the I Ride north to Wet n Wild and then cross the road and head down Universal Boulevard -It is a 15 minute walk.

thanks all for your help ,i have read reports on trip advisor and it seems to of improved.

We have stayed at the plaza 6 times and have booked again for next sept. i can honestly say we have never had any problems with the hotel. Ok it is basic but to be honest it has every thing you need comfy beds, shower, bath, fridge, and good air con lets face it whats the point in paying for a really expensive hotel with every thing to do in Orlando you don`t spend that much time in it any way. The location is good right opposite the point 20 minutes drive to disney 10 minutes to sea world and universal there is also plenty to do near to the hotel try pirates cove golf its great especially at night. We have never had problems with noise perhaps we go at the right time of the year.

We stayed at the QIP this yearat the end of June/early July. The location at the Seaworld end of I-Drive was great - all the traffic seemed to be at the Universal end. The hotel is basic, but as some of the postings have said, you do not spend much time in the rooms. The rooms were cleaned daily, fresh towels provided and the beds changed regularly. My only gripe would be the lack of light in the rooms.

The sports bar and mini-mart had a good selection and the atmosphere around the hotel was good.

does the free transport to the parks run frequently, and what is zebras like

I can`t comment on the transport because we hire a car, but there are always coaches about by the lobby but they could be day trips. We never go into zebras because of the smokey atmosphere (both non smokers) it always seems busy though sorry i could not have been of more help.

We never used the hotels transport (not sure if it was free?). As we had just come from a week in WDW we didn't visit there again, but we did go to Seaworld and Universal.
To get to Universal we used taxis. It was around $10 plus tip each way.
To get to Seaworld we used the I-Ride Trolley. The stop is just over the road from the QIP and the I-Ride drops you right at the Seaworld entrance :)

You can buy the I-Ride trolley 7-day tickets from the hotel for $7. This gives you unlimited travel on the I-Ride :)
