Qualifying for Teacher's Discount at S/D?

I believe that I qualify for the Teacher's discount at S/D based on their broad definition that includes "administrative staff". I will have a pay stub that indicates I work for a University but it does not include the title of my position. My position includes counseling students who are applying for postgraduate study but I am also involved in faculty relations and managing the office of the Dean of the School. My concern is the ominous warning about being charged the full rack rate if it is determined at check-in that I do not qualify. Who determines that and how?

I am interested to hear from others regarding this discount who are not strictly teachers but who serve an administrative function in a teaching facility.

I would call and inquire about if your paystub is acceptable. You could always fax them a copy with your ID blacked out to be sure. My dad is a retired teacher and I was wondering if he qualified (just wondering) - I dont think he will ever go back to Disney.

Would a copy of your teaching license do? My sister teaches at a small Catholic school and I know the pay stubs don't say anything about being a teacher.

by the way, you can book 3 rooms at the discount rate. i did for my whole family last april. we had a ball. :Pinkbounc

Did someone say this also includes people working in administration for the schools, or is it just teachers?

What about an Early childhood teacher?
Can you use your diploma?

I teach at a small school, no id's. Everyone knows everyone! I don't want to show a pay stub, social security number is on it. I know someone whose number got stolen. It was a big mess! But I have a lanyard with my name and school on it. Can I use that? My license has soc.sec. number too. might bring a school yearbook lol.

I am a Special Ed., Ed. Tech? Do I qualify? Yes I have a badge with my pic. on it and the SAD # I do not believe my pay stub states what position I am either though?! :teacher:

I booked this special through Dreamres on this site. I clicked on the button Do you qualify for these discounts? This is what it said about the education discount:

Teacher and Education Support Staff Discount
All teachers and educational facility administrative personnel (includes colleges and universities) can take advantage of the TEACHER discounts. If you are a teacher with a certified teaching certificate, or you are employed in a school as an educational facility administrator you can take advantage of the TEACHER discounts. This would include teachers aides, substitute teachers, and administrative staff. These job types will require a Work ID or letter from supervisor on company letterhead stating employment or a recent Pay Stub.

I wasn't worried until I read this thread. I called and asked. I explained my position (manager of academic dept at major university) and told them my id did not have my job title listed. I was told it would qualify. If it doesn't I guess I'll be sleeping in their lobby. :rotfl2:

Thank you! Hmmm, DH has a weeks vacation coming up soon!?!?! Will have to look into this more. Just can not wait until June 2006!! :moped:

Hrmm... I should check this out more.... not only am I in higher ed administration, but technically I'm still an adjunct instructor (just not teaching at the moment). Although, I don't think my titles are on anything but the University business cards.

I don't think they will be that strict on the educational staff, just have something to show you work in the education field. Any doubts... just call the hotel direct and ask.

Well BLAH... in Oct it's only good for the 1st,2nd.... just my luck. I was looking for end of Oct.. :(

Don't get too discouraged, Vascubayguy. They come out with good discounts on this resort quite a bit. O.k., not as good as this particular one, but still pretty good. I know last year I saw $149 a night. Not too bad. :flower:

Yes, teaching lic. is great.

The description of "who qualifies" includes colleges and universities and at least at the private university I work at a teaching license is not required.
I did not mean to cause any undue worry but I was interested to hear from those who received the discount in the past but who were not strictly "teachers". The term "educational facility administrator" is a broad one.
