HI
We are thinking of popping to Devon / Dorset for a few days with the tent in July and have never been there before. Can anyone recommend any quaint olde worlde places to visit? Thanks :thumbsup2

I stayed in Shaldon in Devon a couple of years back, I actually planned just to use it as a base but the village was really quite pretty and relaxed. Few pubs, couple of restaurants - apart from main through road the side streets are quiet with very little traffic. Nice pub on the front of the bay to watch people taking their boats out from.

I'm not sure it's somewhere I'd make an effort to see on it's own, but if I was passing in the area and was looking for somewhere to stop off for a little stroll it's very nice.

LymeRegis was ok too. Little bit touristy but good pebbly beach famous for it's fossils - nice for a walk along though. Was a few little niche antique shops and I seem to recall we stopped in a cosy little coffee shop there too.

Will try and remember a bit more - my memory is so awful I'll have to look at a map to see if any names ring a bell, hehe.

Corfe Castle in Dorset is quite nice - it's a nice little village with a castle and also a steam railway...

I've some pictures here that I took when I went there with my camera the other week :thumbsup2

Ive had a few holidays in North Devon round the Lynmouth area. Lynmouth itself is a lovely little town as is the area round about. Berrynarbour is a quaint little village

I'd recommend Corfe and its Castle too :thumbsup2 I love the Purbecks and if I didn't live so close would definitely come here on holiday!!

There's lots of great places around Weymouth ~ Abbotsbury is a nice village with a swannery and lovely gardens, so is Osmington Mills (very nice pub called the Smugglers) and the isle of Portland is great to explore just don't mention rabbits ;)

If you do decide to stay in this area, then Durdle Door, Lulworth, Kimmeridge and Dancing Ledge are all worth a visit.

Further inland there is Tolpuddle (home of the martyrs), and Cerne Abbas where they have recently cleaned up the giant.

I went to Corfe Castle quite recently too, and it was lovely!

It isn't Olde Worlde but I highly recommend Monkey World if you are in Dorset. I really love it there, and the keepers are more than happy to tell you all about the different kinds and how they look after them.

Another one for Monkey World as it's great fun:thumbsup2 Also Dartmoor is lovely to drive around, with little quaint villages, free roaming sheep and ponies.
