BTW if you are wondering why I am not responding to any messages you are leaving on the board - it is because only DH is logging on (WIFI time is at a premium). I am just tying up the trip reports in the hotel room for him to come and post for me.
Day started with the normal breakfast at DLH - characters present today were - Tigger, Eyore and Mini (Goofy came later but we missed him). Incidentally, our brochure stated that this hotel no longer does a character breakfast - more a 'meet and greet' outside of the breakfast room. But in actual fact it does both - there are some outside the restaurant that you can get pics with and a few also wander between the tables IN the restaurant.
A day at the park today:
We hired a buggy to save a moany 4yr old!
First stop BTM - 4yr old (and my) first time - we enjoyed it as much as 8yr old and DH. There was no queue at 10.20am.
Aladdins Passage - neither boy found much interest in this!
POTC - My DH says it seems tamer than when he rode it last year - certainly I was expecting the ride to have more of a thrill factor but I think that it was running a little slower than it should have. No queuing again.
We then moved onto Fantasyland. Peter Pan looked very busy so we used one of the complimentary FastPasses. Both boys liked this ride - but especially 4yr old. On the way out I bumped into a friend - small world eh?
And speaking of Small World - that was the next ride - again no queue. This ride is always a fav. of 4yr old. 8yr old 'just' about tolerates it! The Teacups were also quiet so we jumped straight on to these.
We wanted to get a quick bite to eat at Pizza Planet (I hear the food is awful but the boys would have liked the atmosphere) - but again, like last year, it was closed :-( So we had lunch at Hyperion Cafe - typical McD's type food (tasted good enough) although the service was extremely slow (one person serving two lines). Next stop was Autopia - this is another ride that is normally closed when we visit - so we grabbed the chance while we could! DS 8 was desperate to get on this one. The wait was approx.15mins.
We tried to get into Lion King but didn't realise you needed advance tickets (we may squeeze this in another day). Instead we went to Honey I Shrunk the Audience! DH and DS 8 thought this was good. I did not get the full effect of the 3D (dodgy eyes that don't like to work in partnership) and poor DS 4 was petrified of the things jumping out him. I had to take his headphones and glasses off and hold him on my lap with my hands over his ears an my arm over his eyes!!!!
DH then rode Space Mountain (no queue!) while the boys took in Nautilus - again 4yr old did not like the Octopus and DS 8 thought it was 'boooooring'. Final ride of the day was Orbitron. Ironically probably one of the few types of rides that you can find in any fairground and it had the longest slowest line. But both DS's enjoyed making our rockets bump up and down so it was worth it.
We returned to the hotel to catch the 4pm meet and greet - today with Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee (a comedy act in themselves), Pluto (trying to get all the attention) and nasty Gideon (stealing autograph books and not wanting to give them back). There seem to be very few DLH guests who actually come to these and so the children that are there do get a lot of attention. Today they stayed for 20-25 minutes. DS's and I took a look in the shop and then had a drink in the Fantasia Bar.
We ended the day with a character meal in Cafe Mickey. The food we found to be very ordinary and was not really as special as we had hoped it would be. They served the DS's main course at the same time as our starter - we found this odd. We did however, on advice from here, make our meal last so that we ended up seeing two sets of characters - Friar Tuck, Sherriff of Nottingham, Pluto, Eeyore, Tigger, Mickey, Minnie and Goofy. I think we got value for money from that. But would I do this meal again? No probably not. It was good fun to see the characters but I didn't feel that the food was worth the money we paid (the childrens pudding selection was plastic pots of mousse and a selection of 5 bowls of sweets).
The boys ended the night with a long soak in the bath and one is now sound asleep as I type this!
