We are empty nesters without our DDs or DGC this trip. Normally we buy groceries and cook in our villa, but this trip was rescheduled and shorter than originally planned. First, I want to thank DLR29 for the wonderful QSDP review and convincing us to at least give it a try once. Second, there are way too many desserts. Third, my DH always felt he was falling behind using the snack credits. Lesson learned, don't try to explain the QSDP to an electrical engineer the day you arrive in WDW.

We arrived mid day, checked in and walked over to SSR Artist Palette to figure out how it would work. My DH asked so many questions, thankfully we had an understanding CM who talked with him at length. Our plan was for my DH to get breakfast every morning, get 2 waters for the parks and use a snack credit to get me a bowl of fruit (not a big breakfast eater).

Epcot - France - The bakery is wonderful. We had an apple tart and chocolate eclair. My DH noticed that the ham and cheese croissant was a snack! Also met another family on QSDP, their kids were eating this huge pretzel from Norway. Stopped off at Norway and met still another QSDP family ordering lunch. Got some great info from them.

First night, we ate at Cosmic Ray's, sorry no pictures, we were so hungry that it was almost gone before my DH looked up and said, "Oops, no picture."
We both had the chicken and ribs, one bowl of fruit and one carrot cake, 2 drinks. I could have easily shared the chicken and ribs with another person.
Took the fruit back to the villa, had the fruit for a late night snack.

Thursday - I had lunch with friends on the Boardwalk. My DH went to France and got a ham and cheese croissant and a pastry for lunch plus a drink - 3 snack credits.

Dinner was at Sunshine Seasons - one of our favorite places to eat. My DH usually gets the 1/2 roasted chicken but decided on the roast pork and shared the key lime dessert.

I got the turkey sandwich and fruit cup.

Friday my DH had his breakfast plate, brought back 2 waters and my fruit bowl.
And it was off early to Animal Kingdom. Now we're stuck in a rut here because we all love Flame Tree BBQ and the on the water pavilion that we consider our private dining area:thumbsup2

I love ribs, so ribs it is for me. My DH eats the baked beans. The ribs are served dry, you have to get the sauce yourself. Personally love this BBQ sauce and drench the meat with it.

My DH has the turkey sandwich and the rest of my ribs :lmao:

By this time, I have decided that if there's any kind of Key Lime dessert, that's what we're having. It was light and just enough. We always eat in this pavilion on the water looking out at EE. Doesn't matter how hot/humid it is, it's nice and relaxing. I highly recommend it for families who have little ones that need to get out and stretch or are taking a nap. Whoever is left with the sleeping child can put the stroller in a corner away from everyone and you are in the shade with a nice view.

My DH actually fell asleep for a bit here. I took a picture to send to his office to prove he really does slow down once in awhile.

Loving this review. We do have 3 "kids" but they're teens, so we won't be doing chicken strips either!

Thanks! I do have one "big" kid, my DH:lmao:

Are any of your teens boys? My DH is not a foodie but knows what he likes and wants enough of it. So our challenge was he likes a big breakfast and dinner and I don't eat a big breakfast or dinner, I like to eat a big meal in the middle of the day.

Friday night we were off to DTD, a little shopping and little wandering and dinner. We decided to give Wolfgang Puck a whirl based on many DISers high praise. My fear was would there be enough for my DH to eat.

My DH almost went with his 1/2 roast chicken (his normal Sunshine Season dinner) BUT the spaghetti and meatballs called his name. He wondered out loud WHERE is the bread? And our waitress immediately brought a plate of bread and refilled it when he polished it off. A success, a satisfied DH.

I got the curried chicken salad, was so good. My DH really wanted a side salad but his kind of salad is iceberg and romaine not the fancy mix or caesar. Decided to get 2 fruit cups for dessert. We had indulged in 2 pastries earlier in Epcot listening to the concert.

Just my oldest... he'll be 17 when we go and he's already over six foot. He's easy compared to his younger sister, though. She'd eat lettuce and bananas for every meal if I'd let her.

Love the WPE picture of the meatballs... we're thinking of staying at Riverside (our favorite) and the boat trip to DTD and the ability to try WPE is tempting.

Oh yeah, I'm so in! Awesome report so far! How did you like SSR?

Meatballs? My gosh, those are huge. My DS15 may want to check this out.

They are HUGE like baseballs and very delicious. Plus the wait folks will bring you bread if you want.

Hi!!! Again I will thank you for your QSDP report. The dining plans aren't something we usually try because we like eating in our villa. But this gave us a chance to try places we normally wouldn't. Found some nice CS places to eat. Only had 4 nights this trip.

We love SSR or let me truthfully say, my DH loves/adores SSR. I like to try other resorts once in awhile but always come back to SSR, my DH likes his SSR. We went to BWV last summer. My DDs loved it, my DH not so much...it's the hotel feel thing. He travels and it just reminds him of a hotel not home. And if he really had his way, he would vacation in our backyard. He loves being home. He considers SSR his second home.

Saturday, technically our last full day, so again my DH started his day out with a breakfast platter and I had my fruit cup and a pastry which ended up today not being enough. Our plan was to get to DHS early to do the animation lesson and see the first show of Indiana Jones BEFORE it got terribly hot. But as I was sitting in the Indiana Jones amphitheater, I started to get really nausea. When we got out, my DH thought maybe an early lunch would do me good, so we started walking toward the ABC commissary. Thought we would give the fish and the chicken curry a try. But it was so dang hot that I had a mini trantrum (hey, us old ladies can have them) and wanted to go to Epcot. So my understanding DH escorted me to the Epcot boat with a big cup of ice water.:lovestruc
When we got there, my DH decided we should give the Norway CS a try. Remember I am hungry, sick and cranky and he's walking me from the International Gateway to Norway...brave man:lovestruc BUT he was smart, because the bakery patio is right next to the lagoon with nice shaded seating. It was cool and relaxing. Oh, wait...the food.

My DH got the roast beef sandwich with salad and the sweet almond pretzel.

I had the Norwegian Club Sandwich with turkey, ham, and bacon, salad and pear tart. It's on a wheat grain artisan bread that is huge. I ate 1/2 and saved the rest for Sunday morning.

This is not the chef's selection. Be sure to say that you are on the QSDP and the CMs will tell you what your choices are. Sandwich with fruit, salad or soup and a pastry...any pastry in the case. The family we had met the first day had ordered both pretzels and told us that they save it for breakfast. Microwave it for 15 sec and a cup of coffee...mmmm, good...those were their words;) The two kids we met the first day said that the sweet almond pretzel was their favorite pretzel in the parks. And we will tell you that even day old squished from a plane ride...still good.

Love it!!!! We do the QSDP because we have small children who would not be up for sit down meals everyday. While they like chicken fingers, we are happy to learn that we don't have to eat that stuff and can try something new!!:cheer2:

I am enjoying DLR29's report and now yours too. We are doing QSDP in November for the first time. I have a list of where we want to go and what we should try so I will be taking notes. The spaghetti at WPE looks great but what isn't there?

Some of the meals can be easily shared so you squeeze in a child's breakfast once in awhile. The Cosmic Rays chicken and rib plate for instance, I could see sharing some of the ribs and the drumstick. And at the Norway bakery, we saw at least 2 families share the sandwiches and the pretzels for lunch.

We were only there for 4 nights and didn't go to all of DLR 29's recommendations. More to try next time.

I found another picture of our lunch. My DH just couldn't believe how much food we had on the table for just the two of us for lunch.

Saturday night, our last night...we were going to stay in Epcot, listen to the summer concert by Beginnings again. (BTW, they were BETTER than Chicago was at the concert we paid for last summer) Our plan was to go to Tangierine Cafe. But I don't know how we found ourselves back in DTD heading to WPE:)

I think secretly my DH wanted to try the meatloaf or roast chicken. So it was meatloaf this time and creme bulee which he insisted was for me.:rotfl:
The waiter brought bread along with the meatloaf.

IMG_2759.jpg

I had the salmon with fruit cup.

IMG_2760.jpg

Both were delicious. I did snitch a few of those onion straws from my DH's plate. I tried to get him to try the mixed greens but he insisted that the onion straws were his vegetables.

yum yum yum, it all looks good.
I would love to eat at WPE every meal, the food looks fab.
The Norway counter service looks great, youre right there is lots of food.
Did you get all that with 2 quick service credits? or did you have to pay oop for anything. :goodvibes

My DH could have had dinner every night at WPE. And yes all that food for 2 quick service credits plus 2 large cups of ice water (always ask for the ice water to drink or to refill your water container). Nothing was OOP. This trip I think my DH paid for one specialty water drink out of habit and he forgot we were on the QSDP. Only goes to show you what heat and humidity would do to you since he was almost obsessed that we were always behind using the snack credits.
