Thanks to smart DIS'r:thumbsup2, was able to priceline my 1st rental and save a ton of $ on a mini-van during busy marathon.

Wondering if any Priceline/pre-paid experts could chime in since i'm somewhat nervous since it's a busy time with the Disney marathon & we had issue on President's Day with Alamo in the past getting stuck with a small car when needing a mini van.

Wound up with Hertz and I did confirm reservation with corporate office. Was told the policy re any pre-paid weekly rentals is the site holds the vehicle for 48 hours minimum, unless they are contacted as to travel delays.

MCO office also indicated the van will be is 'held' and assigned, they guarantee the class reserved:wizard:

Where it got fuzzy was the security deposit. Since I've always rented in standard fashion, would just hand over the CC at time of rental and that was it. Never noticed any additional charges to the CC on my statement.

It was explained that Priceline/prepaid rentals require producing an additional CC when picking up the car. There was some confusion as to the exact amount that would be 'run', but it seems that it will be the amount we paid for the priceline win vs whatever their rack rate would be at the time of rental or a pre-set $ amount.

they weren't able to determine if the security deposit will be processed as a soft hold on the CC or if it will be an actual charge on whatever CC utilized and then a subsequent refund. Will just keep an eye on the statement.

DH has urged me to keep a backup reservation JIK 'our' mini-van disappears before we arrive and then sort it out with Priceline as to a refund, which I guess is prudent.:confused3

The back up plan is a good idea, esp since you don't even need to give them your credit card to reserve online.

I have never done Priceline and I'm considering giving it a try for February. I have a great rate reserved with Firefly but I'm nervous about them based on reviews. Would much rather reserve with one of the 'biggies' and not have to deal with the hassle, if I can pay just a little bit more.

i'll try to remember to post back when I return as to how the rental went.

I did a weekend rental with Alamo via Priceline. I want to say my whole renal all fees etc was about $50. They put a true hold as in funds unavailable of $150. It was credited back a day or two after I returned the vehicle. The agent was very clear in explaining that the funds would be unavailable. I of course was watching to be sure the funds were returned. Hope that helps.
