Q on Child's meals on the DDP

As I was looking over our ADR's, I noticed the Primetime had a "Kids pick."

Kids' Picks: Choose 1 Appetizer, 1 Entree, and 1 Dessert - Selection of appetizers: chicken noodle soup or garden salad. Selection of entrees: macaroni & cheese, chicken nuggets, meatloaf, or grilled hot dog. Selection of desserts: fruit salad or ice-cream sundae.Includes choice of kids' juice, 1% milk, or bottled water. French fries and soft drinks available upon request. - $7.59

As this kids pick includes the Dessert, I assume that the kids cannot choose another dessert instead. (from the dessert Menu)

Has anyone had experience with this? If we ask the server to substitute a different dessert are they willing to work with us?

Most of the restaurants that participate in the dining plan will only allow kids to choose a kids dessert - from the kids menu.

When we ate at Le'Cellier last time the waiter allowed our DD to choose a dessert from the adult menu as a special treat for her birthday (she was wearing her birthday pin!).

It never hurts to ask if you can substitute, or if there is a particular dessert that your child "must have" you could always order it as your dessert and share or purchase it OOP.

The Primetime does not list desserts on the kids menu... so what would apply in this case? As no desserts are listed, and the DDP says that a Dessert is included... Other restaurants have a children's dessert menu that we can pick from... I am sure I am making this more complicated than it should be.

If my girls order the Chicken strips kids meal (which does not include dessert as part of the meal) would it default to the only dessert menu listed?

You may want to check this menu, which is posted on the Walt Disney World website and dated April 2012 (small print under the menu items).

It does list dessert for kids. In the case of the grilled chicken strips meal, the fruit salad is the dessert. If they want something else you may be able to ask for it, but absent special circumstances it is doubtful they will be able to get a dessert from the regular menu. If they like one of the listed desserts on the kids menu they can just order the chicken strips plus the dessert.

I just looked at the kids menu posted on allears and it lists fruit salad with the chicken on the kids menue - usually the waiter will ask if you would like to substitute. They will usually say something like did you want the fruit salad or the ice cream with that, you can also substitute soda for the milk or juice and you can usually add fries instead of a veggie option if you wish.

Exactly - this is supposed to be a more healthy combination if ordered as is - but most kids would rather have ice cream than fruit!

Although our DD had a double serving of fruit salad at the Rose & Crown - they brought the first as an "apitizer" and the second as dessert!

if your kid doesnt like any of the kids dessert selection, i think s/he is out of luck. They have to get the dessert that is considered kids. In my experience i have never seen a kids size/version of an adult dessert.

My kids love fruit, but they see it as a snack more than a dessert (and why I read the fruit as part of the meal and not a dessert )

All good.. this may be a non-issue as the kids may opt for the kids pick anyway. I can never tell which way my kids taste buds will blow.

and here i was hoping for a loophole in the menu's at Disney.
