I started receiving Christmas gifts from my K students. I got 2 Starbucks gift cards, a Dunkin Donuts gift card, a Yankee Candle Vanilla Caramel scent, a poincettia (sp) plant, an angel ornament, a box of chocolates and a framed photo of me dressed as Mrs. Claus during our Christmas pageant and a $10 bill in a very sweet card. This was the first time I received cash!

Have any of our DIS teachers received gifts from their students yet?

By the way, I gave each of my 22 students a $5 gift card for Slurpees which came in a Christmas tin. They all love Slurpees.

My husband got nothing. Absolutely nothing. Well, a picture frame from the administration, but that was it.

Nothing from any student whatsoever. Not even a card.

Granted he teaches middle school in a poor rural area, but he at least gets a card or a note from students. In his 7 years of teaching, he racked up last year, he got cards, homemade jams/jellies, a BBQ sauce kit.

This year, NADA.

And I don;t say this with any anomosity or anger, it was just odd for him to come home on Friday (last day of school before break) with nothing.

Most of what I received was edible. I also received a gift card to a teacher store, some jewelry & a frame. I work in a very poor area so I honestly don't expect much because I'd rather them spend any money on their kids.

That's odd. I thought it was "tradition" to give the teacher a little something. Even a $5 gift card for a couple of donuts and a cup of coffee. Hmmm.

I got a used jewelry set ;), pumpkin bread, a reed diffuser, and a snowman knick knack. I think the recession is more evident where I work-in an urban school. It isn't poor, but they definitely do not have a lot of extras. Also, 1/2 of my class are Muslim.

High school teachers usually get nothing. I will occasionally get something from a student I wrote a letter of recommendation for but not a lot.

I got 2 Dunkin Donuts gift cards and an ornament from kids in my CCD class.:santa:

I'm a teacher in elementary, but I always made sure the teachers of my girls in the upper grades received something. This year, the HS teachers are getting homemade hot chocolate mix and a bag of homemade toffee. The drama teacher gets something else a bit special. He is the one who took the kids to the Fringe festival in August. My dd is making a slide show with, of course, tons of showtunes of the trip for him.

I'm in a poor urban area and so far nothing.. no cards or such.

Our last day hasnt happened yet (we are done on Thursday)

Our last day is Thursday as well, and I've already received a wonderful gift-a handmade card from a former student who is now in 2nd grade. On the inside of the card she wrote " I love Learning ":goodvibes. Best gift any teacher could receive :)

My dd usually gives out chocolate bars and a card to her teachers. Might have to go shopping for her. It is has been a stressful time. Her last day is Wed.

I got a 6 pack of Snickers candy bars (my kids know I love them and they are harder to find here). And a beautiful mug with a candle inside. The kids also made me a card.

School isn't over for me yet (thurs is my last day), but so far, I've received two Target g.c's (a $10 and a $20), a Dunkins g.c. ($5) and some homemade brownies, a penguin ornament made from a gourd (handmade, craft show type), a gift box of flavored pretzels and popcorn from Target and a homemade pumpkin bread, which I froze to have at a later time.

I have 29 two year olds over four days...

My co-teacher and I give the children ornaments every year...of the Baby Jesus. (Christian preschool)

My 6th grader is giving his two teachers jars of "puppy chow" and hot cocoa mix.

My 10th grader opted out this year, but last year, he gave his two teachers (block scheduling...only two academics a semester) g.c's to Starbucks. He was having an awful time adjusting to HS and his teachers really went above and beyond. :thumbsup2

This is the first year we are giving all the special teachers something. I found a bookmark to make out of beads and a charm so it's affordable, pretty and quick to make. Made it for the Sunday school teachers and youth group leaders too.

I got Ferrer Roche, some almond/coconut candy, some Moose Munch and jelly, a necklace and earrings, Santa Claus mug with hot cocoa mix and a cookie, bath set, perfume, flameless candle, and an organizer. My kids are so sweet. :)

I teach middle school PE and Health and I've gotten nothing for the past few years. I also coach High School football and basketball. The past 2 seasons I've got nothing from my teams either. I believe it is a sign of the times. It doesn't matter and I don't teach/coach for gifts. But, in my 15 years coaching I've coached around 32 different teams/seasons and these were the only 2 seasons that I've haven't received a gift of some sort.

On another note, my wife teaches 2nd grade and almost every student gets her a gift. So, I guess it really depends on how old your kids are if the teacher/coach deserves a gift or not???

I have already put most of my teacher gifts to good use. All the goodies and sweets were incorporated on platters to add to a holiday party I gave this weekend. Starbucks gift cards have all been combined and put onto the one I carry--over $50 total balance right now thanks to my kids! I think of them and smile every time I use it--this is a real treat b/c I do not typically treat myself to a $$ cup of coffee. My favorite gift really is when the student comes up with a gift for me all smiles--I make them endure a big hug before I open the gift. They all line up and patiently wait because they know I give my attention to each child and gift. I teach middle school--they relish the affection and one-on-one time. So do I!!

I have three children all in elementary school, we made handmade throw blankets for each ones teacher. When i taught preschool I remember my favorite gift was a personalized throw blanket from one of my kids. I let my kids pick out the fabric for the blankets and we sewed them together.

My DD teaches SpEd resource in a middle school. She mostly co-teaches but has one reading recovery class. She was also the coach for 7th grade pom's. She didn't get anything.

Here, it's more common for elementary school teachers. I think that we only gave gifts to a few teachers when my girls were in middle and high school. These were teachers that the girls specifically asked to get something for.
