Q for teachers about gifts you receive

I have three children all in elementary school, we made handmade throw blankets for each ones teacher. When i taught preschool I remember my favorite gift was a personalized throw blanket from one of my kids. I let my kids pick out the fabric for the blankets and we sewed them together.

I love this!

This year I got one of best gifts ever. This is my 1st year teaching 5th grade. My students know that there is 2 things I love: Coke Zero and Bruce Willis. One of my students gave me a 2 liter of Coke Zero covered with various pictures of Bruce Willis.. I howled with delight! It was so creative and I appreciated very much! :lovestruc

LOVE this idea!!! Mind if I "borrow" it for next year?

I love this idea too! So cute. My DD's 2nd grade teacher had a glass angel on her desk. She (the teacher) knocked it over and broke it one day. We were at WDW last week and she got her an angel from Mexico. A metal one that won't break when dropped. My DD came home from school happier than I have ever seen her because the teacher was so appreciative.

As far as those teachers that didn't get anything. I feel so bad. It doesn't cost any money to write a thank you note. Of course, if the child doesn't celebrate Christmas, I totally understand.

I am trying to come up with a useful gift for my DD's 2nd grade teacher. Any ideas? I know she loves chocolate so I got her some Lindt truffles. I was thinking a Dunkin Donuts gc but it sounds like a lot of teachers get those.

Just got home from school a bit ago...today I got a plate of cookies and a $15 Applebee's gift card (both from one student) and a tin of cookies from another student.

I'm thinking I don't have to bake! :thumbsup2

I started receiving Christmas gifts from my K students. I got 2 Starbucks gift cards, a Dunkin Donuts gift card, a Yankee Candle Vanilla Caramel scent, a poincettia (sp) plant, an angel ornament, a box of chocolates and a framed photo of me dressed as Mrs. Claus during our Christmas pageant and a $10 bill in a very sweet card. This was the first time I received cash!

Have any of our DIS teachers received gifts from their students yet?

By the way, I gave each of my 22 students a $5 gift card for Slurpees which came in a Christmas tin. They all love Slurpees.

Awwww.. That's sweet.. Your students must love you - which in turn means you're an awesome teacher! :lovestruc

And what a great gift idea you had for the kids! I'm sure they were all very pleased with their treat - and they can save the Christmas tin to remember you by - many, many years from now.. I think we've all had that one "very" special teacher - that we still think about as adults - and something tells me that you're the "one" for your class..
:santa:

That's odd. I thought it was "tradition" to give the teacher a little something. Even a $5 gift card for a couple of donuts and a cup of coffee. Hmmm.

My best friend teaches 2nd grade in very poor inner city school. No gifts ever but sometimes a homemade card. This year though her favorite student , but has the most behavior issues sent a gift to my best friends little boys. SO SWEET. She is always telling him stories about her boys, they have ADHD, on meds and have issues in school sometimes and how hard they work to behave and that she knows he can do it too etc, etc ,etc. The little boy identifies with them , has met them and likes them alot.

She said she started crying when he gave it to her.

Our last day was Friday. I got 4 Panera gift cards, ranging from $15-$35, a couple of $15 Dunkin Donuts gift cards, 5 Starbucks cards, most either $15 or $20, two Borders gift cards, both $20, LOTS of candy, (pecan turtles, glass Christmas tree filled with holiday mini Snickers, etc). I got a couple of coffee mugs filled with different treats, Starbucks Via packets and teas, homemade banana bread and pumpkin bread, a Vera Bradley organizer thing, lots of Bath and Body Works soaps and lotions and a lot of other stuff.

I loved all of it, but my very favorite gift with this super tiny, (like 1 1/2 in. tall) candy cane ornament with a sign on it saying "Best Teacher Ever" from a little girl whose family has virtually NO money. She told me she saved up all her money and picked it out for me herself. :lovestruc I would trade everything else I got just for that because it means so much to me.

Aww, that is so sweet. *sniff* :lovestruc

I teach 6th grade in a MS so it really depends from year to year what we get. We are not finished until Thursday, but so far I've received a box of chocolates, some homemade treats, and an ornament. I'm happy to get anything.

I just finished putting together the gifts that my kids are taking in to their teachers tomorrow. We got travel mugs, filled them with Hershey kisses and mints, and then attached a $10 WAWA gift card to them. They are giving this to all of the main teachers (even my 6th grader who had 4 main teachers.) Then the special area teachers are getting the mugs filled with the candy and not the gift card.

I got a box of chocolate truffles, a bulb kit, and quite a few gift cards--$25 to Kohls, 2-$25 to Target, $10 to Starbucks, and a $110 Visa gift card from the parents in my classroom:woohoo: I was really excited! I usually get 4-5 gifts, but nothing this expensive.

I had planned to send in $10 gift cards to each of DS's 5 high school teachers, but they were out Thurs and Friday for snow days. I will have to send them in when they go back to school. I don't think people should leave MS and HS teachers out---they have to deal with our teenagers:rotfl:

We give gifts to our boys' teachers until they split out into different teachers for different subjects. After that, the boys have to decide if they want to buy a gift for one or more of their teachers, with their money. That way it really is based on merit. If they are willing to spend their money on a gift, that teacher must really be doing something special.

Wow! That's so nice!!

I teach in an urban school also and I don't expect gifts at all, but I usually do get a few each year. Our last day is Thursday and the ones that do bring gifts usually wait until the last day. I did get a personalized ornament last week.

I do not open gifts at school, but I always have kids that will see another child give me a gift and they say, "I have a present for you, but I forgot it today." I feel so bad when that happens and I always ask them to make me a drawing to hang up or something else and that seems to make them feel better.

I always give my students a gift and although they are all the same, I always put them in gift bags and write a note to each student and attach it to the bag. When I pass them out, I have to look at the tags to see which gift belongs to which student. I've had a few kids through the years that have asked, "Do you only give presents to the kids that brought one to you?" I have to explain that it doesn't work that way and everyone will get a gift.

I am a substitute so I don't expect anything but I got treated with chocolates and popcorn on Friday by the classes I had. Last year I had one class for a few weeks and they made me cookies and brought chocolates to me. All high school kids.
