Q: changing same-day ADR?

Hypothetically...

Let's say you have a lunch ADR somewhere at noon. It's 11:30 and your party is not hungry. You check MDE and there is an opening at your restaurant an hour later. Can you alter the time of a same-day reservation (NOT cancel) without being penalized with the no-show fee...?

I'm just wondering if any alterations can be made to the ADR if you aren't hungry or are running late/stuck in a line, etc..

You would need to have a CM at the restaurant/GR/your resort make the change and waive the fee.

Not sure if they changed the app, but every time I've tried to cancel or alter same day reservations it won't allow you to do it on the app. It directs you to call Disney Dining. As the PP said, you would need to speak with someone in order to do it.

When I was making my ADRs for this September in February, I screwed up something and made a BOG breakfast reservation for that day (like 3 hours out). I was able to change it on my desktop to a later date and I then cancelled it. I called the dining reservation line to make sure I wasn't going to get charged and the CM assured me that if I was able to change it and then cancel it, I wouldn't be charged. And I never did.
I'm not sure if you could change it for later in the day though. But in my one time experience, I was able to alter a same day reservation online with no problems.

I was just at Disney World the first week of May, and we had dinner reservations at Tusker House. The day was not going well, and my family was threatening mutiny. I walked up to TH and asked if I could switch to lunch. She told me to come back around 2 as it was not busy then and they could seat us early. (dinner was at 5:50). I then walked away and called WDW Dining and she was able to reschedule it for me. It's worth a try. I have been able to do several things last minute. I think the trick is to be there; the fee is about the no show, but being there in person, they try very hard to work with you. I cancelled an Akershus that way. We were not hungry, but only 1 person has to show up so I went to honor the reservation; she was only too happy to cancel because they had groups of people waiting to get in.

I think you hit the nail on the head. You need to be there. WE had an ADR set for San Angel Inn for dinner, but after a big lunch at ROse and Crown, and then a rest, no one in the family could even think of food. I spoke to the concierge and he was able to cancel and waive the fee. We were a party of 9, and I would have crawled back to the restaurant if need be!

Last October we had an ADR at Yak & Yeti for 1 PM. We were in the area and hungry earlier. I walked to the podium and asked if they could seat us then. They said yes. I verified that we would not be charged a no show fee for our ADR and we weren't.
But that is different than not showing up and wanting to eat later.
