Q: Booking then canceling resort, how does this affect FPs & ADRs?

Thanks so much in advance for your help! Despite searching, I couldn't find a clear answer to this elsewhere and I'm new to, and overwhelmed by, all the intricacies of the World! (it's been awhile since we visited!)

- I would like to book our family at a resort or the campground.

- Another family may be joining us on our trip, but they won't know for sure until the end of December at the earliest. That will be after the 180 day window.

- If they do join us, we will all rent a house together. Thus, I will have to cancel our resort stay.

So my questions are:

1. What will happen to my ADRs (and FP+, if I've booked them) if I have to cancel lodging?

2. At what point will I lose my lodging deposit?

3. Should I go ahead and book a package? Or should I order the tickets separately through a discounter to save a bit of money? I'm not sure if that will just complicate things unnecessarily for a relatively small savings.

3. If I do order the tickets separately, will I still be able to book ADRs at 180 days out (assuming I haven't canceled lodging)?

4. We are planning for April, when will that show up online for booking?

5. Will canceling lodging affect our MBs? Will we have to send them back? (told you I was clueless!)

Thank you SO SO much! I really appreciate your time.

FP+ is connected to your ticket, the ADR's are not. If you cancel then you still keep your dining reservations but not your FP+'s. ADR's can be booked 180 days and are not connected to park tickets. If you have lodging with Disney you can book 180 plus 10. That means you have to wait until 180 days from your first day to book but you can then book the first 10 days of your visit.

The campgrounds can be cancelled closer to the visit than the resorts (which are 60 days) with a full refund. I don't know the exact time.

Hope this helps.

For most resorts you get a full refund it's long as you cancel more than 45 days out. For the campgrounds you get a full refund if you cancel more than 5 days out.

So, if I have to cancel my onsite lodging at, let's say, 58 days in advance, what will happen to the FP+s I booked at 60 days? Will they be cancelled and I'll have to wait and rebook them at 30 days?

Will I have already received my MBs? And if so, what happens with them?

I am trying to keep this as easy as possible but I don't think I'm succeeding!

If you would be buying tickets as part of a package, then I don't see how your Fps would not get cancelled.

If you are using separate tickets, then it's pretty iffy. Even if you think your Fps will stay, Disney is making a lot of errors these days. One recent poster had all his FPs cancelled just because they added dining to their package. Shouldn't have happened. But Disney said they couldn't help them.

The 45 day cancellation only applies to package reservations, so if you book a room only I think you can cancel up to 5 days prior with no penalty.

FP's are gone once you cancel. I called the other day about this as I wanted to buy AP's instead of a 6 day ticket, and I was told I would loose my FP's if I switched. The CM told me to keep the 6 day tickets & then convert them to an AP while there, and this would preserve my FP's.

I think MB's get mailed at the 30 day mark.

The part above is correct.

Along these same lines, what happens to your 60-day FP+ reservations if you change your hotel stay? Right now we have 2 nights booked but may end up cancelling the 2nd night when we get closer to the date depending on a few unknowns right now. (Bought tickets separately, so not a package.)

If you cancel your room ressie within the 30 day window- then your FPs should remain intact. If you cancel at 31 days- then you will lose your FPs because offsite guests are not allowed FPs at 31 days.
