Hi All,

I am sure this thread is going to get bumped but I am going to ask here anyways.

Now is Thanksgiving the 25th of November this year? If so is it a public holiday and is the next day a public holiday too? If so, what exactly happens on a public holiday there? I mean here in Aus on most public holidays shops, restaurants are still open, public transport still runs etc. The only time everywhere completely closes down is on Christmas day. Is it the same there or does a public holiday mean a complete close down of everything?

The reason I am asking is I am in the process of trying to book flights and to fly into LAX on the 25th is actually much cheaper than the surrounding days. I also figure that if we get there on the 25th we could possibly book in somewhere to have a nice, traditional Thanksgiving dinner (we don't have Thanksgiving here, so it would be a real treat).

I think Disneyland will probably be busy over the Thanksgiving few days so do the crowds thin out a little after that weekend?

Thanks so much

Hi All,

Here in the States restaurants are still open, public transport still runs etc. Disneyland will be open and very crowded on the 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th.

Aussiegirls this is a tough question. Yes on the 25th of November will be US Thanksgiving. It is called a National Holiday as it is celebrated in all the states. Like you mention about Christmas, on thankgiving most things will be closed. You would have trouble shopping. Generally everybody has large family gatherings in their homes eats Turkey in the Afternoon and watch a couple football games. Things will be quiet. You can find a few resturaunts serving Thankgiving meals though.

You are right about the days aroung then being busy for travel. The day before is one of the busiest travel days all year as families assemble.

The day after is know as Black Friday. The stores get jamb packed. Almost everyone goes shopping, the stores have great sales to open the Christmas shopping season. Schools as well as most workers have a four day weekend. Last year the Saturday of this weekend was really slow in DL. The following week should be a great week to see the parks with low crowds. One catch though is that this time is to get ready for Chirstmas they may have some attractions down for rehab.

The week AFTER thanksgiving is typically very slow in the parks. That used to be "our week" that we went every year until my kids schools started getting a "fall break", now we go in October. Also, the park will be decorated for Christmas, so it is a really good time to go. You might have to do some research to find a good restraunt that is open on Thanksgiving, some are open, but most are closed.

Last year in the parks the days leading up to Thanksgiving were packed, T Day itself and the Fri & Sat after were pretty good *lower crowds* in the parks. We're hopin' for the same thing this year, we'll be there T Day, Fri & Sat.

Two years ago my parents went to Mimi's for Thanksgiving dinner. http://www.mimiscafe.com/ They said it was very good. They did not eat at the location near DL, but there is a Mimi's within walking distance to the park. I wouldn't count on it being open on Thanksgiving and/or serving a traditional turkey dinner, because it might vary by location. But it might be worth giving them a call.

We were there last year, crowds were much lower then we thought they would be. We had a GREAT time over Tgiving last year. We ate at the Jazz Kitchen in DTD, they had a really good turkey dinner menu and they also had the regular menu available. All the restaurants in DL & DTD were open. Stores will be closed Tgiving but everything will be open the next day.

Edited to add that we did Mimi's 2 years ago for Tgiving and OMG it was sooooooooooo good!! They only offered a traditional dinner but man it was good. They do require reservations but I believe it's the same menu that day at all Mimi's restaurants.
